View 6 Replies View RelatedI think I must have lost Windows Installer using Revo uUninstaller and messed up the registry somehow. I'm a bit afraid to use the Win 7 repair disk 32 bit I created; I might mess things up further. I've tried to download a 32 bit installer update to no avail; it says it's not compatible with my version of Windows (Professional, SP1). Anyhow, does the Win 7 repair disk have a fix for the lost Win 7 installer? If so, I might give it a try if you can provide some guidance in doing so. I have everything backed up in Carbonite, Seagate external drive, Acronis True Image, memory sticks, etc.

I have a clean install, with windows updates, and it would be phenomenal if I could use my WH12LS30 (LG) internal blu-ray burner for the System Image creation, since I only have 1 harddrive. When I try a BD-R (and this is my 1st try at System Image burn) , I see "The media needs to be formatted before it can be used...". Just didn't sound right to procede.

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy laptop which is a Asus GXG72 came with restore disks surprisingly, I guess it was right before they stopped putting them in the box. I never needed them till my harddrive started making noise. At first I didn't realize I had the restore disks, so I tried making my own using the program my computer had. It would always fail at the end. I Ended up making a image of my harddrive through windows not realizing I actually need a copy of windows to reload it. I ended up finding my restore disk and figure my worries were over.... Apparently it was corrupt it only partially loaded windows onto the machine, I managed somehow to tweak it enough to recognize my usb drive so that I could restore my computer to the old image. From then on it blue screened every once in a while, but it worked. I am having problems with games now and I'm not sure if its hardware or software related. I wanna try restoring the computers main files and see if that works if not just wiping it completely. Problem is I don't have working restore disks, can't make them and have no copy of windows 7. Is their anything I can do beside buy a copy of windows 7? Which I feel is retarded considering I have one technically.
View 13 Replies View RelatedI have a compac (HP) laptop (CQ61-41us notebook), running WIN7 home premium, 64 bit. Aside from the normal file backup via the western digital software, I have several windows 7 generated iso images of my laptop stored on my external WD drive. Using windows repair disk, my computer does not recognize the external drive to access the disk images. It just asks to insert the last disk into optical drive. My images are on a folder on my external drive. There is no option to navigate to it! This is the first time I've needed to restore an image, and I can't access them! This should be an easy operation that could be started in a few minutes. I have been screwing around with this for more than 24 hours!
View 3 Replies View RelatedI was reading yesterday that if I want to restore a file, I need to go to the file and right click and select restore. If the file does not exist anymore then one would go to the directory where the file originally was and select restore (or something to that effect). I have two disks and I want to save some important files from one disk to the other. I have always used Windows 7 Backup but now I am not sure I am doing the right thing. What would happen if my main disk crashed and there was absolutely no hope of salvaging it? Could I still restore from the back up made by Windows 7 Backup? I won't know the file names or directory structure if one disk goes down completely.
View 5 Replies View Relatedpowered up computer. All looked good until the boot stopped showing only wallpaper. This is my sons computer and I understand there is no backup or restore disk. I was able to make a boot cd for diagnostics, and have been doing lots of research all the way to the cmd prompt. x: If I look at the setup when booting it shows no hard drive but if I select f12 for bootselection it shows hard drive. I suspect a virus effecting the boot sector.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy laptop crashed the other day after a Windows update. To make a long story short it would not boot up. I tried several things to no avail. System restore disc did not work. At this point I thought the hard drive was fried. Finally I stuck the the Windows 7 companion disk and got the system to boot I can tell all my files are there somewhere due to amount of memory taking up on the hard drive. Anyways my main problem it is now asking for the product key although I have 29 days which unfortunately I cannot find. Laptop in question is a Lenovo G550. Where do I go from here? Do I have to purchase a new key? I've been using the laptop since and it seems to be working properly as far as i can tell.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell system studio slim desktop, I used the "reinstallation DVD, windows 7 home premium 64-bit" disk to reinstall. After the reinstallation, when it automatically reboots, the screen starts up where I can press F2 or F12 for boot options but after that and windows logo, it stays on a black screen.
For a little background history, the desktop had a power supply die and I bought and added a new PSU. After that it worked until viruses on my computer forced me to reinstall windows.
I am going to try to create a second partition on my hard drive and the software I am using to do this (MiniTool Partition Wizard) says I should back up everything in case something goes wrong. I have made a system image on another portable hard drive. I have an OEM version of windows 7 and I am wondering whether i can boot from the disk and use it to restore my system from the system image I have created in case something goes wrong.

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy wife has a Compaq Presario CQ61 laptop computer. Windows Explorer shows a D: disk called Recovery. I am assuming that is what is used to restore the system to new by pressing one of the F keys on startup. Is there a way to create a backup disk using this partition? If this hard drive was to fail, I would lose everything on C: disk and would also lose the recovery partition. Have Googled this, but all I can find is the procedure to reinstall using the F key.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am wondering if it is possible to restore a backup disk image taken from a laptop running Windows 7 32-bit to a different laptop running Windows 7 64-bit and I haven't been able to find anything about this. Does anyone know if this is possible? The machine that I need to backup is a Dell XPS M1330 (upgraded to W7 32-bit), and the machine that I would be restoring the image to is a Dell Latitude E5430 (brand new, running W7 64-bit). I found a program called EaseUS Todo Backup, and purchasing the "Workstation" or higher version would include support for a "Restore to dissimilar hardware" feature.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a few friends that would like me to fix some virus/malware issues. Most are Win 7 users(a few running XP), but don't have any of their installation media or driver disks or anything. I've had a few personal instances where I used Norton or a similar program to scan for viruses before, and when it did so it removed some of the boot files, or some other system critical file. I don't want that to happen here, cause I don't want to give them back useless machines.
Can I just create a "Repair Disk(DVD)" in Windows? Will that take care of an issue like the one I described above? Should I use an external to create images of each, one at a time, run the scans and then use the image if anything goes wrong? And if something does go wrong, how would I restore from the image? I've never done that before, and I'm eager to learn.
