how to keep my Ethernet card powered after shutting down my Computer. I would like to use wol(wake on lan) to turn my computer on while I'm away from home so I can use remote access to edit some files. I have configured the wol and am receiving the packets, but every time I turn off my PC the LAN card turns off as well,thus not letting me wake up my PC.

View 4 Replies View RelatedAs I started working on it, I seemed to experience very erratic, random issues with the network connectivity. After several reinstallations of Windows 7 and Sony drivers, however, I have identified the pattern. When the laptop is on AC power, connectivity is not a problem. When I'm on battery power, however, the network adapters cease to work and actually completely disappear from Device Manager. The is true even when the battery is fully charged and everything else works normally.I have already tried going into all the power management settings for the laptop itself and for the network adapters and made sure that they are not being shut down when the laptop is running on battery power, and yet the problem persists.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI installed the 7022 x86 version of Windows 7. Everything installed fine and there were driver issues which I anticipated but my Ethernet port is not working on Windows 7 or any other OS for that matter.
It�s a very strange situation. After it was not seen I Windows 7 I booted from my 2nd drive which has Vista on it and it was not seen there so I booted from my XP drive and it was not seen on there either.....
I have re-downloaded all the drivers for each version of the OS but none are making the NIC discoverable.
I have an nVidia 680i SLi & I am using the on board port.
I have a Toshiba Satellite a135-s4527. It has a Realtek 10/100 ethernet card in it, and an Atheros wireless card.
My ethernet card doesn't show up in device manager, but the wireless card does.
I went to Toshiba.com and downloaded the appropriate drivers for Windows 7 and my model of computer and installed them, but the ethernet card still doesn't show up in device manager and I'm limited to wireless connections.
how to get my wired connection up and running?
Each time i load up my computer everything is running nice and smoothly when i start to open up alot of things that uses internet (or simply play a game) all of a sudden my network card dies and starts saying "An Ethernet cable is not plugged in" blah blah. Anyways the cable works 100% I've tried about 6 different cables all resulting in the same thing..
I've tried updating the driver that still didn't fix
I've tried uninstalling the network adapter and reinstall didn't fix it
I've disabled Ivp6 thingy still doesn't fix it
I'm connected to a Router/homenetwork using a REALTEK PCIe GBE Family Controller and computer specs are in my profile.
Linksys LNE100tx Ethernet card-PCI. I've just installed the RC on a second box and it says I need the drivers. I Could not find them @ Linksys site.
View 7 Replies View RelatedMy computer wouldn't shut down, even with holding in the power button, and so I just let it run out the battery. Then it wont turn on. I tried holding down the power button to clear out any charge that might be remaining. I have managed to get it back on, but I have to make a connection at the clip where you plug the power button ribbon into the mobo. Also, this is the second time I have had to do this. The computer works fine afterwards...or seems to anyway.

I disabled that device and used the gigabit and i got 38mb with or without jumbo frames 7k.I performed the test 4 times with similar results. I have updated both cards with the latest drivers via win update.

So I only have 1 cat6 line into my computer area. My new receiver (Onkyo TX-NR809) has a ethernet port in it, which enables internet radio, media sharing, playing, firmware updating, etc. Being a techy guy I got another netcard and put it in my computer and I want to share internet to the receiver via LAN2.
I've been scouring the internet trying to figure out how to do this with Windows 7x64 to whatever system (probably linux based?). I've seen how to do it with Windows 7&XP, XP&XP, Windows 7&7 linux & Windows, and they all use some sort of "brige internet connection" or something like that, which doesn't apply to my situation. I think ever since I purchased the PC this problem has occurred.Problem: NVIDIA nForce 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet card will only detect an ethernet cable when I restart. The minute I unplug it, it will not detect it if I plug it back in. I have searched high and low for a solution but have not been able to find one that works. My brother needs a video card but me being the smart one here. I got his info from dxdiag and I need a recommendation for two things , a video card and power supply. His current power supply runs at a max of 250w and it seems low, mine being 500w so its the right thing to upgrade in order to get a video card. keep video card recommendations "single slot" only since I have no idea how to hook up a video card to a power supply. View 5 Replies View RelatedMy windows home server has decided to stop communicating with the client machines.The connector software won't connect (reinstalling makes no difference), remote desktop times out, manually shutting down (by pressing the power button) and restarting also fails to correct the problem.I can ping the server (average response time 3ms)The Home Server machine is headless and although there is a connector the only monitor I have doesn't fit the connector.I susoect that the internal battery may have gone flat and may be the servers clock is out of sync with the client machine (but even when the server is asleep its still connected to the mains).
Someone has said that I can connect a laptop to the sever via an ethernet cable but the only instructions I can find say that I have to set the IP address on both machines to be the same - Is this correct or is there another way of connecting?

I have my desktop computer, and I can leave it on all the time and I never leave with it, so I'd love to set up wifi on it, since it will be so much more convenient.I brought my router from home, and ive gotten it to send out my computer's internet connection, but it brings me to the school's registration page, which I can not use, since routers are not allowed. Is there a way to use my desktop's ethernet connection and send out that internet connection through my router (it also needs to bypass the school network, somehow fooling it that my router is my computer (im guessing))?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have 2 computers here. One is a E-Machines, and the other is a custom built. Both units as soon as you power them on, they go thru the boot up process, but anywhere from 2 to 10 seconds later, the unit turns off. I've tried swapping the ram and the power supply. I have disconnected the keyboard, monitor, mouse and speakers with no change. Both of them developed this problem over night. They do not stay booted up long enough to get into the setup or to even try booting from a DVD.

The minor power interruption shut down one of the hard drives but then came back online and the computer remained on (surprised me that such a thing could happen.) Afterwards the autoplay came up for the C drive and it messed with things. My computer still starts up but takes a long time before the windows logo comes up and actually starts. other programs were put back to default settings and I don't know what to do. View 4 Replies View RelatedToday I got 2 new 4GB sticks of Corsair Vengeance Blue RAM to go with the 8GB I already have in my system (same RAM as well). After all 4 sticks were installed, my computer failed to power on properly. It would power on for about 5-6 seconds then shut off, and continuously try to start up again, only to shut back down. I did have a few minor overclocks in place so I went into BIOS and reset everything back to default, but the computer still refuses to power on with all 4 sticks in place. I've tried different combinations of the 4 sticks and they all work fine as long as all 4 aren't hooked up at the same time. My PSU is 650W if that helps. I really doubt 2 additional sticks of RAM is making much difference in power usage.
Note: As to why I need/want 16GB of RAM, I play around with Photoshop + do some video editing in After Effects and Premiere, and I found myself maxing out the 8GB I had rather easily.
My dads computer is broke And it has no access to anything no power. Alls it can do is turn on.

View 9 Replies View RelatedMy computer not wanting to start up well, I went and bought a new wireless card for my computer D-link Extreme 3 antenna's 67 bucks, so I installed it into my computer, and then try starting my computer up, it does not work again! so I tried the paper clip trick and unplugged everything and the power supply booted, and then I plugged everything back in and it turned on, barely. Now my cd/dvd drive won't power on I have tried switching between different power sources on from the power supply and nothing it won't boot at all, I went into the boot sequence and it shows it in there so I am starting to wonder what is going on! View 5 Replies View RelatedMy computer decided to shut down on me in the middle of playing a game a couple of weeks ago. Hardware shut down - no warning, nothing. This is always worrisome, but it was even worse because when I went to turn it back on, it failed to post, stayed on for a couple seconds, then shut itself down. It repeated this cycle many times until I simply turned the power off on the PSU. I turned the power back on and it continued this cycle. Finally I just turned the power on the PSU off and left for the day. When I returned, I was able to boot the machine normally.About a week after that, I was once again playing EVE and the thing shut down on me and did the whole power cycle thing again. Remembering the fix from before, I turned the PSU off and left for the day. However, when I got back home, the problem persisted.
Currently, I am unable to get the computer to post on a regular basis with anything more than a single stick of ram (though it doesn't matter which stick and even then it's about a 25% chance). This includes removal of GPU, PCI cards, and HDD. Sometimes it WILL POST, but the Hard Drives are not detected, then then machine shuts down after about 30 seconds or so and returns to the power cycle mode.I cannot boot from my hard drive in my buddy's computer, but it is a much older AMD based system that originally had a 230w psu. I can however access it as a slave disk.I just replaced the PSU less than a year ago, and the graphics card about 18 months ago (an upgrade from an x1950pro, which blew the 550w PSU I had at the time).is the CPU temp sensor freaking out and shutting the machine down? Did the power supply go kaplooey (or about to)? Is my southbridge bad and causing all of the above (this is my #1 guess, as HDD's and PCI cards all cause major fail)?
