Can we connect Power over Ethernet (PoE) Adapter just like this one D-Link Power over Ethernet (PoE) Adapter Kit with any Ethernet switch ? I have a Belkin 5-port 10/100 switch can it be powered by PoE?
View 4 RepliesMy house has a router[WPA@] to the desktop and this network allows the laptop to join.My daughter has a network without a router and her Verizon modem/router is set to WEP which she needs for remote access to work and won't change.To keep my configuration when I move in, is it advisable to buy another line from Verizon and use the setup I had in my house, or can I use an ethernet splitter to have our own setups on each seperate side of the switch?

Then the unit starts up and returns to window without the login window as if it was sleeping.The problem started after my attempts to install a defective external drive enclosure connected with an esata cable. I have since obtained a working external enclosure connected with an esata cable. The present Sleep wakeup malfunction is now present with or without a working external drive.

After several reinstallations of Windows 7 and Sony drivers, however, I have identified the pattern. When the laptop is on AC power, connectivity is not a problem. When I'm on battery power, however, the network adapters cease to work and actually completely disappear from Device Manager. The is true even when the battery is fully charged and everything else works normally.I have already tried going into all the power management settings for the laptop itself and for the network adapters and made sure that they are not being shut down when the laptop is running on battery power, and yet the problem persists.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhenever I switch user accounts the computer will start the switch and then lock up with a display message that says no signal on the monitor. It happens if the computer has been running for hours or only a couple of minutes. I have to shut the PC off and leave it off for 20-30 minutes. I can then restart and enter any user account. But if I try to switch user or logoff and pick a different user the whole cycle begins anew.

Soon as I touch any browser icon the rest of computer stops responding as well. It's only me on computer. Have virgin media security/ spyware/ virus protection. Tried CCleaner. I use my PC for audio production and I have a few external controller devices that are USB powered, for example a midi keyboard. I recently had to build PC due to a theft....long story short after building the new PC I've noticed that my USB buses have continual power to these external devices after I've powered down the PC. My old windows 7 PC did not do this. Is there a setting I can change to shut off power to the USB buses when I power off the PC? Or is this a hardware issue?

(I had 8 of them 3 days ago.)I assume I have a hardware problem, but nothing has been found and I'm grasping at straws.The time between power off and power on is several seconds.I had assumed this rules out a software cause, but maybe I'm wrong. I know Windows can schedule a power off, but can it tell BIOS (or something) to power back on in a few seconds?I know blaming the power supply is a much more simple explanation, but then I'm left with explaining the intermittent nature of the failure.

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy computer wouldn't shut down, even with holding in the power button, and so I just let it run out the battery. Then it wont turn on. I tried holding down the power button to clear out any charge that might be remaining. I have managed to get it back on, but I have to make a connection at the clip where you plug the power button ribbon into the mobo. Also, this is the second time I have had to do this. The computer works fine afterwards...or seems to anyway.

I just bought the 3 unit upgrade which contains both the 32 and the 64 bit discs. I have an AMD dual core that will process the 64 bit. I installed the 32 bit version. Now I wonder, can I go back and install the 64 bit and if I do will I lose the extra install or will I still have 2 left on the 64 and the 32?

This is the setup - One direct lan connection from router to A, then another lan on A is connected to a switch. B is also connected to a switch.
On A, I have allowed other network users to connect thru this computers connection (for the lan card which is connected to the router).
The other lan connected to the switch remains unidentified, in fact it gets APIPA with IP as 169.254.82.6.

I know you need at least two drives to perform any RAID functions. When I tried to switch over the SATA drives in the BIOS from RAID to ACHI, windows failed to start. Is there some proceedure first that I need to do before I switch them? Like a driver or does the hard drives have to be switched on a clean install of windows?

View 4 Replies View RelatedJust a home user. Mostly gaming. Home oriented stuff includes Office XP (2002), and Quicken. The other main software I use is Adobe Premier Pro CS3 video software (includes Encore, the DVD writing program), and Visual Studio 2005.
My system, isn't the latest, but newer stuff isn't a lot faster yet:
Intel core 2 extreme X6800 (2.93ghz)
Intel D975XBX motherboard, 2GB 667 mhz 4-4-4-10 ddr2ram.
ATI HD4870 (PCI Express) video card, 512 MB ram
Sound Blaster X-Fi Plantinum
4 Segate 7200.12 500GB sata drives, paired into two striped virtual drives via BIOS.
1 Seagate ??? 250gb IDE drive, used only for boot up.
All drives have multiple partitions.
Windows XP SP3 is installed on a partition on one of the striped sata drives.
Windows XP X64 is installed on a partition on the ide drive.
The second pair of drives are used for swap files, temp files, and backup.
There's also a USB drive I use for backup.
Each instance of OS is used to backup the "other" OS partition, and also I use X64 for for some 64 bit programming with Visual Studio 2005.
Other than one version of Halo, I haven't seen any games that don't run on Windows XP. I read that most games play faster with Windows XP than with Windows Vista, and Tom's recent article seems to state that Windows 7 isn't faster with gaming than Windows Vista.
So bottom line, is there any point in switching to Windows 7 (or replacing my XP X64 with Windows 7)?
