Linksys WRT54G V2 Will Not Change / Renew IP Address

Jan 16, 2011

I have a Linksys WRT54G v2 & latest OEM firmware. A few days ago I tried to release & renew my IP address to get a new one. It did not change, and just thought the Comcast modem was remembering the IP and just went about my normal web surfing. Today, nothing would connect to the internet. My WRT54Gs status was fine & had the same IP it had a few days ago.

I tried to release & renew the IP again, nothing changed. I called Comcast tech, and the automated thing reset the modem, still no internet, still same IP address. I released the IP & unplugged the router for about 5 mins, renewed & got the same IP again. I released again, and reset to factory defaults, same IP again. I tried connecting directly to the modem and see if I works, and it did!

I had another D-Link DI-624 Rev C v2.70 .. released the IP, and hooked it up .. everything works fine. So for S&Gs I released and hooked up the WRT54G to see if the IP changed at all, nope same IP! I would like to use the Linksys again, as the D-Link sometimes got funky under heavy load.

Linksys - Connecting Pc To HUB, Says No Network Access

Dec 6, 2009

I recently moved downstairs in my household and was overjoyed to finally be able to use the network hub downstairs. Ive been using wireless lately which has served me well for my pc, but not for my Xbox 360.

Anyway I decided to plug in the ethernet cable and see if I might be able to set it up on my pc and then save the settings to a USB stick so I could use it for my 360 (right now it wont connect, says it cannot get an IP adress).

I didn't set up the network (my father did) so at this point I cant fiddle with the settings. Everything should be working, but its not.

When I plugged my pc directly into the hub upstairs it worked perfectly, but for some strange reason down here the connection comes up as

Unidentified Network, No Internet Access

Has anyone else had this problem before? The hub should be working (i even plugged it in after taking the cables out, resetting it if you will, no dice).

Also, forgot to add, it says that there is no connectivity, but I checked the connection and it automatically gets the ip and subnet address, which works fine with the wireless.

Connecting Two Computers Together

Mar 6, 2009

I have an Eee PC and my main Desktop, both are running Windows 7 (same build.)

I want to be able to use a Homegroup, I really like the idea of it, but I want to be able to access my Desktop PC like it was in the homegroup even though I'm on another network (such as school.)

Would creating a Virtual Private Networking (via Himachi) allow me to create a homegroup between the two computers?

Any suggestions?

Problem Mapping/connecting Two Computers In

Jul 9, 2009

Wow I am so frustrated right now I cant remember the last time I was so frustrated! I have installed two fresh installations of 7264 x64 on two desktops. They are connected to a private network. I want to share the hard drives in both of them (say, C/: and D:/ )but I was running into all kinds of issues!!!

1) Tried connecting from one, got an error username and password but I changed the username and password many times only to have the same issue. Also it said username for pc1/user but I was trying to connect to pc2

2) after finally somehow getting access to the shares on pc1 and pc2 I mapped the drives, and upon restarting the computer I was unable to reconnect to the drives! Got odd errors, unable to reconnect. Also permission errors... ???

3) Even after it seemed to be working, I shared C: drive, but could not access it!!! No permission! I granted full access to everybody, but still nothing.

Why is it so impossible to do such an easy task in windows 7?

All i want is PC1 and PC2 should have their entire harddrives shared with each other... Is that too much to ask? The guy I was installing this for, is super mad that after all that time he doesn't have what he wants.

Connecting Two Wireless Computers Without A Router

Nov 2, 2009

This is for my parents house. They have high-speed net that can only be registered to one computer, so running it to a router and then computers is not an option. We used to have it setup with net into "computer 1" then out to the wireless router. The new computer has only one ethernet port, so this can no longer be accomplished without buying another card, which I am very inclined to do. They are getting another computer that will also have Windows 7 and would like to get wireless working again, so...

1) I've tried an ad-hoc connection. I understand the concept and had it working for awhile but found it to be "finiky." I would always have to restart the connection everytime I wanted to use it. I couldn't get it to "stick." Did I maybe do something wrong or is there no way to keep the net connection open? I "saved" the network and set it to start automatically, but it would always close the internet sharing.

2) I haven't messed with home group...will this feature accomplish internet sharing easily??...without messing with any ad-hoc crap? I need everything as simple as possible, so if they have any problems I can fix it over the phone or they can figure everything out for themselves.

Like I said, worst comes to worst, I'll get them another ethernet and run it the old way...was just hoping I could simplify things and save some money.

Linksys Router Will Respond To Pings But Won't Connect To Internet?

Jul 12, 2012

I am running windows 7, 64 bit and have been having an issue with my Linksys E1500 router recently that has my ISP

My router will respond to pings from my laptop both wirelessly and when connected via ethernet cable, and will respond to pings from my ISP, but it won't allow my laptop to connect to the internet. I have rest and reconfigured the router a bunch of times, leaving the MAC address alone, cloning it to my laptop's ethernet port, and cloning it to my wireless cards MAC addresses, respectively. None of that allows it to connect. Linksys (Cisco) has been useless in helping both via their site and when contacted, encouraging me to pay $40 to talk to someone who MAY be able to help.

Note: The router worked fine for about 4 months, then one morning, couldn't connect to the internet through it. Have to connect directly from the modem via ethernet cable.

Can't Connect To Internet But Other Computers Can

Aug 25, 2012

Well yesterday after playing online games and surfing the web, so then i decided to go to bed and my laptop took longer than before so i then clicked cancel and tried refreshing i then shut down my laptop and it seems fine. But now today i turned on my laptop and it seems fine until i login when i log in it shows a black screen with only my cursor in the middle but i can still move my mouse around (this never happened before) then it goes to the desktop screen and my icons and gadgets were starting really slow but they came up in the end but then i look at my wifi conection it says No internet accsess but i looked over to my internet modem the internet was on. So then i opened the other laptop and i can use the internet, so i tried restarting my laptop and it did the black screen thing again and still no internet accsess. So I then switch to Safe mode networking and i can connect to the internet just fine i then went and looked at the Device manager and clicked on System devices and theres a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark on Consumer IR Devices.

Can't Connect Two Computers To One Router

Dec 6, 2012

So everything was fine until today when I woke up. My internet wouldn't work, it was saying that I was connected with internet access but never gave me it. I checked my router settings and it shows all the correct things.

So then, I decided to check my brother's computer which is in the same room and he couldn't connect either. I turned my computer off and somehow, my brother's computer had internet access and could access the internet.

Posting from my brother's PC now. I have attempted everything, restarted the power to everything about 5 times. Our internet has always worked and has until today.

Laptop Can Not Connect To D-Link Even Though Other Computers Can

Apr 11, 2012

My computer was working fine yesterday, it showed about 6 Networks and I was able to connect to my own network, D-Link fine. Now after playing a game via game booster I tried to acces Google Chrome and it says "this webpage is not available" I cant acces Skype or steam or anything that requires internet. I thought I had simply disconnected my self but when I went to check, it shows no networks. I thought this was my connection but then tried other devices "I-Mac, I-Pad, Windows XP Desktop and a DSI" and they all seem to find many networks and connect to D-Link fine.

Can't Get Any Other Computers To Connect To Network But Desktop

Feb 24, 2011

Here's my setup:

* I am using a Blackberry to USB tether to my desktop (internet works on pc)

*Ethernet to WAN (from PC that has internet to wifi router)

*I get DNS is not responding now from any other computer connected to the network either wired or wifi

* Set up my network as following: Tether has internet sharing turned on and connected to Local Area Connection

* Local Area Connection has IP4 configured as:

IP address: 192.168.0.1
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
Default: blank

Preferred DNS Server: 192.168.1.1 (my ethernet connection so the internet connection is sent to wifi router)I have tried everything...I mean days of effort and searching. IP6 is disabled. Microsoft Virtual is disabled. This SAME exact setup was working perfectly a week ago with an older Linksys Wifi router. Then I bought a new Linksys E2000 and because I wanted something new (Bad move). That setup no longer worked on the new router....now it no longer works on the old router.

Wired And Wireless Computers Won't Connect To Each Other

Mar 12, 2012

My wireless is called "BuckleyWireless" and my wired computer is connected to something called "VirginMedia478xxx". I'm not sure whether these have to be the same name for it to work so I thought I'd post this anyway.I've checked the subnet mask for both computers and they are the same.I've tried turning off the firewalls on both computers.I've gone into advanced settings so that both computers are "visible" within the network. My laptop is now visible on my wired computer but it can't actually be accessed for some reason.

How To Connect 2 Computers To INTERNET Independently

Apr 2, 2012

I am on a mission to find out how to properly connect 2 computers to the same Internet "pipeline" (cable Internet - provider: Videotron - Canada) in an independent fashion so that when I shut down one computer, I do not lose the phone lines and my wife's computer still gets an Internet connection to the outside world. We are using Windows 7, the computers are brand new and the Internet connection is strong, but the moment I shut down my computer, within 5 minutes my wife computer will lose her Internet line and the phones will die.I am at a loss as to how to solve this since I have tried all combinations, permutations, you name it and nothing seems to work.Could it be my Internet provider's fault or am I doing something wrong when I connect everything to the router.

Computers At Home Connect To Same Router But With Different Names?

Apr 15, 2011

All three of my computers at home (all on windows 7 ultimate 64bit) are connecting to the same router with same SSID, but they end up having duplicate names such as NetworkName 1, NetworkName 2, NetworkName 3. This is preventing me from having them share via homegroup. I made sure the computer names are all different and all connect to same workgroup name. Is this a router setting problem? i'm using a cisco-linksys wrt-160n flashed with DD-WRT. i was checking the settings and ran across a new term, vlan. could it be they are all connected to separate virtual networks? i tried to disable vlan, however, that just disconnected all the computers to the internet.
