How do I set up this printer (HP Deskjet 6940) using the xover cable connected to the ethernet port on the laptop?I found this thread, but as the last post indicates, it lacks the details needed to do the job. Installing printer via Ethernet Cable I connected the printer to the laptop with the xover cable, ran through the printer wizard to install the HP6940 drivers as per the Windows 7 printer installation routine, but nothing will print. I tried the MS FixIt routine and still no printing. All I see is an error - printing for this printer when I open up active printers.
View 9 Replies View RelatedSo I bought a crossover cable just to connect two laptops. Like, a network. Mine is running on windows 7 and the other laptop is running on Vista. So I configured both laptops to be in the same workgroup (left the homegroup in Windows 7) and configured both NIC's to have an IP in the same class - one of them is 10.1.1.1 and the other one is 10.1.1.2 and subnet masks are the same 255.255.255.0. Now, I should be able to ping each of the laptops. But it pings only from Vista (10.1.1.2) to Windows 7 (10.1.1.1) and not the other way.
Network window in Windows 7 shows some computers in the different network, but in the same building, but does not show the laptop connected with the crossover cable. Network window in win vista does not show any computers. Both computers have some shared folders (for users Guest and Everyone).
I would really like to know what am I doing wrong, and how do I connect these two computers so I could easily transfer some files?
I've searched through the forums and other places, and tried many "solutions" but they don't seem to work. So the situation is I have two computers, Windows 7 and XP. They are connected via a crossover cable. Currently, I can access my shared folders on the XP computer from the 7 computer, but I can't access folders on the 7 from the XP. I can map the network drive, but it says that is not accessible and access is denied.
I configured the network settings and disabled the firewalls so that both computers can ping each other. On the Windows 7 computer, I have made the network identification into "Work". I believe I made the correct options for the "Advanced Sharing Settings" tab. They are both in the same work group. For the shared folder on the 7 computer, I went to "Advanced Sharing", checked the box, and allowed "Full Control" for "Everyone" in the "Permissions" tab.
I have a laptop and desktop both running win7, both connected via wifi to the same router which is two floors down. I would like to access the laptop from desktop via remote desktop. It works fine but is a bit slow. My question is: Can I connect the laptop and desktop via a crossover cable to speed up the remote desktop connection between the two computers?I suspect plugging one or both computers directly into the router may help but I would really like to keep the two computers in the same room.The purpose of connecting remote desktop between the two computers is NOT for sharing the internet connection or even for file sharing; it is simply because the laptop computer has some applications on it that the desktop computer does not.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have just installed Windows 7 Ultimate on my laptop and now find that I can no longer sync (I'm using Syncback SE) over a patch cable between ethernet ports. I had previously been doing this quite effectively on Windows XP and my procedure was.
1. Both computers were in the same workgroup and accessed the same wireless network (secure).
2. Ethernet patch cable - usually showed up in the lower right corner as having 'limited or no access'.
3. Shared my user folder on the laptop (after disabling wireless for security - but this worked whether wireless was disabled or not)
4. Ran Syncback SE ver 4.1.3.0. and synced my files between the laptop and desktop.
Then I bought Win7U for the desktop, and the same procedure as above worked fine between Win7U-desktop and WinXP-laptop.
Then I bought Win7U for the laptop, and what happened next was odd :
1. It worked like a dream - really fast transfers etc, scanning very fast. I think that at this time I had somehow managed to put both in the homegroup but they were communicating over the ethernet.
2. As the sync was taking place I launched ITunes and synced my iPhone. It may be coincidence, but the ethernet cable connection was lost at that point.
3. Now I cannot re-establish the ethernet connection.
What is the correct procedure for achieving what I'm trying to do above ? Why does HomeGroup insist on using my wireless connection instead of using the ethernet cable direct connection ?

I have a large screen TV that I need to run PowerPoint presentations on, and maybe video. The IT department set up Cat5 from the PC to the TV, but I cannot get anything from the PC to display.
I am trying this on two different computers. One is XP Pro, and the other is Windows 7 Pro. I would prefer the XP machine, but will sacrifice the Windows 7 machine to this if I have to.
Both the PC and the TV show connectivity at the ports, but there is no display on the TV. Multiple Monitors do NOT show in either machine.
New computer - Dell Inspiron 15R laptop. Windows-7 home premium 64-bit. Trying to access internet. 7 gives connection option of Broadband where ISP requires ID and Password. However, my ISP does not require this info to log on....its just "plug-n-play" I have run every test and diagnostic that I can find and the only prob I can find is something to do with the DNS, but have no way to fix the problem. The connection is Cable Modem, via LAN wire. One of the diagnostics recognizes my ISP, but still won't let me connect.

they identified each other
but my laptop give me a yellow "!" mark and it can't access my desktop and didn't have a internet too..
I recently reinstalled windows and on a new hard drive and now it says my ethernet controller needs to be update. Without it i cannot use the internet without connecting to wifi, how do i update it?

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy windows home server has decided to stop communicating with the client machines.The connector software won't connect (reinstalling makes no difference), remote desktop times out, manually shutting down (by pressing the power button) and restarting also fails to correct the problem.I can ping the server (average response time 3ms)The Home Server machine is headless and although there is a connector the only monitor I have doesn't fit the connector.I susoect that the internal battery may have gone flat and may be the servers clock is out of sync with the client machine (but even when the server is asleep its still connected to the mains).

View 7 Replies View RelatedMy laptop suddenly stopped being able to connect to the network in my house and for that obviously it doesn't have any internet. It doesn't work either by connecting a cable or trying to use the wireless, here are the detaills for each case: When I connect the cable, the laptop detects it, but doesn't detect any network, it doesn't seem to even be trying. I checked on the network adapters, and it clearly says "enabled" when connected and when disconnected it changes to "No network cable plugged in". When I try to connect to my network, it always ends up saying "Limited access", when I tried troubleshooting, it said that there may be an error with the network drivers, I tried the fix there, and then it says that there must be an error with the network adapters.
Here's what I have tried so far:
-Reinstalling the devices and drivers, when I check them in device manager, it says that both the wireless and network driver are working properly.
-I tried resetting the router.
-Tried resetting the bios of the computer to it's factory ones.
- Tried resetting IPv4 and IPV6, along with the IP/TCP using the command prompt, still no go.
When I try to ipconfig /release or ipconfig /renew, I get an error saying the next thing: "An error ocurred while releasing interface Loopback Pseudo-Interface 1: they System cannot find the file specified. The operation failed as no adapter is in the state permissible for this operation."

What is the name of the cable that will connect into the small (male) part of this connector ? On this page they mention a Molex Adapter, when I search for Molex Adapter I don't find a female connect with a power adapter.
