My Dell XPS 8500 has an MSATA slot in which I have a 64 gb msata board which acts as the system and boot drive. I have just purchased a 128 gb msata board I want to install in place of the 64gb unit. My system also has a 1 tb main hard drive. I have tried a system restore DVD and Back/Restore, neither has worked at all. All I want to do is find a way to do a complete copy of the 64gb msata now installed and then replace it with the 128gb unit and copy over all of the data that was on the 64gb one. This way all I have done will be to have more storage available on my system drive, the msata drive.
i had a MSATA SSD (under the keyboard, not a SSD that replaces the DVD drive) on which i boot and where Windows 7 is installed AND i still have the 7200rpm HD that came with the laptop,
i have a software that only runs on win XP, is there a way to install XP a partition on my 7200rpm HDD and have the option to boot from either Windows 7 from my Msata ssd or xp from my 7200 rp, hdd.
I purchased two 128BG USB Flash drives from Ebay that came from China, so i know they are not the best quality. But this is really weird. On one of them can only play four movies, if i copy a fifth movie or more, none of them or al of the rest will not play. The other USB is the same, but that one can hold and play nine movies not more. I tried formatting them the fast way and the long way.
I've got a Lenovo T410s with a 128 gig SSD & I want to create an image to then put straight on a new 256 gig SSD.I've tried Macrium Reflect (paid for version), but when I then put the drive in, it doesn't boot. Macrium only lets you select 1 partition at a time, so I tried going through it selecting the system drive, then the O/S drive (C), then the D Drive (data) and then the Lenovo recovery partition, but still when I remove the 128 and boot from the the 256-no joy.
I have Acronis home plus. In order to move everything from my 128GB SSD would I just use Acronis to backup the 128GB and then use an Acronis startup disk to restore the backupimage to the bigger SSD?What about programs that rely on "hardware" id for licensing?Or would it be more feasible to just move only FSX to the bigger SSD.?Wouldn't there still be problems for programsaddons such as aircraft.?There is that pesky registry. If I remove FSX from my "C" drive I regain ~75GBs of space. Right now I have 28GBs remaining.
1) move all of my current "C" to the bigger SSD
2) move only FSX to the bigger SSD
3 just reinstall FSX on the bigger SSD and,re-license everything again.( not what I want to do )What i am trying to avoid is reinstalling FSX?
is it possible to copy a device driver from one system to another compatible system? I just installed windows 7 pro (64bit) on my Dell Optiplex 380, but no ethernet controller so i cant use it on a network.
Currently I'm using Windows 7 64Bit ultimate. Yesterday I brought Sandisk microSDXC 64GB.
I try to use this microSD with my PC. But my PC cannot access to this microSD card. So I try to format this microSD card again. But I can't format it, Because Windows can't specify capacity of this card.
Addition Information I'm using Sandisk ImageMate All-in-One USB3.0, tjat already supprt microSDXC I [URL]
Can you recommend me the best way to transfer OS from old 64gb ssd to new 256gb ssd? My prev 64gb only had my os installed. So i presume that to upgrade to a new 256gb i just need to install an os and it will work the same way as the old 64 gb?
Anybody able to help me with this problem? I currently have the new 256gb installed with windows 7. However when i replace the old 64gb with the new 256 gb it states that the bootmgr is missing. Bios seems to detect the new 256 gb.
i would like to have my 256gb replace the 64 gb and operate the same way as my 64 gb without any changes.
Just purchased a sandisk 64gb microsd. When I put it in, windows says it needs to be formatted. I went to format it as exfat but it only sees the drive as27gb. Same thing if I select ntfs. Is there something I am doing wrong or is this a faulty microsd card. If I use swissknife to look at the removable drives, it shows the drive as being 64GB and formatted already.
i used an ssd drive 64gb torqx for months until my computer burned out now when i try to install on any laptop or desktop windows didnt see it on install it always can up in bios and is set correctly when i used dban to format it shows up in install but windows say cant install on it it let my format it now in any windows install but wont work to install it comes up with a yellow triangle on bottom and say windows cant be installed on this drive?
my laptop doesn't starts then it runs the system restore automatically but it doesnt fix anything.i can get into a cmd from the system restore, and i was wondering if is posible to copy the whole disk to an external hdd from the cmd?i have a value information in that disk, then i want to save my info and re install the win 7?
im looking to get new harddrive and was wondering isit possible to copy whole os to new hdd?
meaning like copy whole os to new hdd so i dont have to reinstall all my programs because im going to use my current hdd as external storage using caddy and my new hdd as my sole drive
ive been told theres some program called ghost something that does it,,is this true or even possible
I made the mistake of putting W7 on a small partition of the 160GB D drive. I was not aware that much of windows 7 programing would not allow me to change the destination to install and insists on installing on the OS drive. I am looking for a way to copy, move or coerce all of the current system onto another drive without erasing that drive.
I want to move my 'catdb' file which is a system file to another location so as to shrink my c drive. What is the procedure to get rid of the problem and how to copy and delete the same file in safe mode.
How can I access a system partition to read and copy data? Two partitions were merged together and ended up as a system partition. All of my data files are in there.
Today my Windows 7 laptop wouldn't boot, returning a persistent Windows Boot Manager error 0xC00000e9. It recommended allowing Windows to start in a diagnostic state, which didn't work. I pulled the hard drive and put it in a USB adapter which I plugged into another Windows 7 system. I was glad to see all the normal directories off the root. When I tried to change directories to UsersFrank to copy off some critical files, it said I didn't have sufficient permission. What I need to do to accomplish this? I thought I was logged in as Administrator on the second system while examining the drive. Later I may try putting the drive back into my laptop and booting off a CD to try to repair the disk, but my highest priority is to get some critical files off the drive as soon as possible.
I have bought a new hard drive to use as my main one, and am planning to use my current, larger one as backup, as i found i was not filling it. So i need to completely duplicate my current drive, a 1tb one, with 180gb of stuff, to my new 320gb drive. i have made a full disc image with driveimage xml, which comes to 180gb, but when i try to restore it to the 320gb one, it says it it too big. How do i gp about setting this up? do i need to copy the system reserved partition to the new drive too for windows 7 to work, or can it not be copied? should i install windows 7 to the new drive from my install disc? if so, how to i get my settings, programs and data back without too mcuh hassle?
I have a drive that was using PGP that has become damaged and will not boot despite trying 3 days of different fixes and repairs. I have a complete drive backup that will restore but when I try and boot after my PGP password I get 'Missing operating system'. Again I have tried decrypting and fixing but to no end.
I have another disk with a working and booting install of Windows 7 (same architecture etc) on. I have the entire contents of the non-booting system disk that I can access from the image of it.
If I booted into something like Windows Recovery or Live Linux environment, can I copy the entire contents of the non-working Windows 7 drive over the working one and expect it to work and then boot?
I have one internal drive with 1 TB. The data there is very important to me , so I bought External removable drive for backup. Now, I want to copy the data from one drive to the second drive but I have to be sure I have a perfect copy of the data. The data is mostly songs movies and documents. I'm using windows 7.
My question is this:
1.If I'll transfer the data through windows 7 by copy and paste, I could be sure i have a perfect copy? 2.There are tools for comparison Between the original data to the data that was copied?
i have a (spinning) hard-drive with my windows 7system and data on it. it is up to date to this month. the hard-drive is a 320gb. there is jsut 69gb used on the 320gb.i just bought a 256 gb SSD (solid state HD). i would like to place everything on the 256 and put IT in my laptop. i have saved a system image of the 320gb on DVD. windows seems to want an exact size (320gb) to restore the system to.
How can I get Windows 7 to name copied files using the scheme "Copy of" (used in Windows XP and earlier) instead of the default scheme "- Copy", whenever a file is copied to the same directory as the original file?In other words, if you copy a file named "Foo.txt" in a directory to the same directory, Windows XP would have named that file "Copy of Foo.txt", but Windows 7 names the file "Foo - Copy.txt". I want the copy to be named "Copy of Foo.txt".There are several reasons why I prefer the XP style file name:
1. It is familiar :-)
2. I have existing files that use the XP style file names, and I want all my file copies to use the same naming scheme. I guess I can do a massive file rename across all my backups, but that would solve only one of my problems.
3. Most of my folders are sorted by name, and using XP style would sort all copies together. On other forums it has been suggested that one can simply sort by date (to get the copies sorted together), but that advice assumes that all copies are created after all other files are created, which is actually not often the case.
4. I often work with long file names, which means that the end of the file name is often obscured, unless I have wide windows (not always possible) and use lots of horizontal scrolling every time I want to select a file. Hovering over a file to get its full name is a cumbersome solution.
5. On other forums some have given the advice to always make copies in subfolders, but I often make copies or copies of copies while I work (it allows me to roll back or to check earlier versions of a file quickly, during my work), and using subfolders would slow me down tremendously (not to mention confuse me).
I know that when TeraCopy is made the copy handler, it renames files in a different way than Windows 7 does, though unfortunately not the way Windows XP did it. Also, if one installs a third-party directory program such as Opus, it asks for a file name every time a copy is made, but I need something that simply names the file correctly immediately.
I have installed windows 7 evaluation copy build 7201 and i want to find out if i will be able to upgrade it to the original copy and how? Any suggestions?
