View 1 Replies View RelatedI've got a desktop and a laptop both with Windows 7 on the same LAN and both have their network setting to Home. From my desktop, I am able to add a network location in My Computer to connect to my laptop. However, on my laptop I am unable to connect to my desktop. The desktop shows up in the list of network locations on my laptop but it always times out trying to connect to it and just says there was a problem with the connection. know the problem is not with my laptop because I am able to connect to my other PC as a network location. I really need to be able to connect to my main desktop though.

Your Motherboard supports RAID 1(additionally 0 and 5) and you want to setup hardware RAID 1. Is it possible to switch HDD to RAID mode, enter RAID BIOS, create array using drive A, copy drive B content to drive A and run RAID 1 using two drives(drive A should rebuild array on next restart and copy mirror drive A on drive B)
2)You have two drives, drive A and drive B running in hardware RAID 1. You need to format drive B, copy drive A's content oto drive B(which should be non-raid drive now) and install non-raid drive B on another PC.
3)You have three drive A, B, C. Drive C contains Windows and other files. You need to setup RAID 1 using drive A and B and then copy Windows from drive C to newly created array consisting of drive A and B.
All three scenarios require no Windows re-installation.
I have a desktop running Windows 7 professional 64-bit.I have a laptop running Windows 7 Home 64-bit.I want to share partitions on the laptop so I can copy files (generally using Syncback) from the desktop to the laptop. So, I go into properties, select Share With and Advanced Sharing. Then into Advanced Sharing where I give the partition a unique name. Then select Permissions.HOW do I set the permission so my account on the desktop can copy files to the laptop? I use the same username and password on both boxes. I specified my username on the laptop and got a user of laptopnameusername. On the desktop I can look in "Network", see the laptop, AND see the shared partition. But, when I try to copy a file from the desktop to the partition I get a "try again" and it says "You need permission to perform this action"I don't want to give "Everyone" full control, but that's the only way I've been able to get this work.

I made the mistake of putting W7 on a small partition of the 160GB D drive. I was not aware that much of windows 7 programing would not allow me to change the destination to install and insists on installing on the OS drive. I am looking for a way to copy, move or coerce all of the current system onto another drive without erasing that drive.

So i need to completely duplicate my current drive, a 1tb one, with 180gb of stuff, to my new 320gb drive. i have made a full disc image with driveimage xml, which comes to 180gb, but when i try to restore it to the 320gb one, it says it it too big. How do i gp about setting this up? do i need to copy the system reserved partition to the new drive too for windows 7 to work, or can it not be copied? should i install windows 7 to the new drive from my install disc? if so, how to i get my settings, programs and data back without too mcuh hassle?

View 3 Replies View RelatedThis is very frustrating now...Yes, I know it´s because of my lack of knowledge about Windows 7 and security/permission rules and settings. But still.
Hopefully someone is kind enough to help me out a bit here and maybe I´ll understand better (hopefully)
I´ve just installed Windows 7 and this is what I want to do:
Copy my old Favorites-folder (Win Explorer 8) from the old harddrive to my new folder in Win 7.
I had some problems accessing my old folder in My Documents on the old harddrive but i changed permission and ownership and finally I could access it and copy the folder. But. It seems impossible to copy it into c:UsersxxxxxFavorites
It just says "You´ll need to provide administrator permission to copy this folder"
I´ve disabled the built in admin account and tried every fix I´ve found but I still receive the same message. How can I fix this??? Seems like a simple thing to do but i just cant get it to work.
My PC was somehow configured so that I cannot copy files from the internal hard drive to a USB pen drive (e.g., to make a back-up).
When I try to do this, I get the following message: "Destination Folder Access Denied You need permission to perform this action."
There is definitely enough room on the USB drive. The USB drive is configured with a password, which I entered correctly after plugging in the drive. After doing this, I am able to see the files from the drive. The configuration is such that I can copy files from the USB drive to the PC's hard drive, but I can't copy in the other direction, which is what I need to do.
This sounds like a Windows permissions issue to me. I have taken ownership of the file in question, and I have assigned full control to that file.
my laptop doesn't starts then it runs the system restore automatically but it doesnt fix anything.i can get into a cmd from the system restore, and i was wondering if is posible to copy the whole disk to an external hdd from the cmd?i have a value information in that disk, then i want to save my info and re install the win 7?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently reorganized my computer and this included a fresh install of Windows 7 on a new disk. I backed up all my data on the old disk so that I could make sure I wasn't losing any important documents or whatever.I'm now sure I've got everything off the disk that I needed and am using the disk as a storage disk for media. However, there are still folders that I can't seem to erase in the Program Files, Program Files (x86), and Windows directories. Most of the files are gone but about 12GB of junk remains that I no longer need. Whenever I try to delete what is left, it says I need permission from TrustedInstaller and it won't let me delete these files. Is there any way to blow these directories away without having to format the disk? I really can't format because the disk is almost full with data that I need to keep and I don't really have any other disks to temporarily back these files up to.

View 7 Replies View RelatedMy Dell XPS 8500 has an MSATA slot in which I have a 64 gb msata board which acts as the system and boot drive. I have just purchased a 128 gb msata board I want to install in place of the 64gb unit. My system also has a 1 tb main hard drive. I have tried a system restore DVD and Back/Restore, neither has worked at all. All I want to do is find a way to do a complete copy of the 64gb msata now installed and then replace it with the 128gb unit and copy over all of the data that was on the 64gb one. This way all I have done will be to have more storage available on my system drive, the msata drive.

View 5 Replies View RelatedToday my Windows 7 laptop wouldn't boot, returning a persistent Windows Boot Manager error 0xC00000e9. It recommended allowing Windows to start in a diagnostic state, which didn't work. I pulled the hard drive and put it in a USB adapter which I plugged into another Windows 7 system. I was glad to see all the normal directories off the root. When I tried to change directories to UsersFrank to copy off some critical files, it said I didn't have sufficient permission. What I need to do to accomplish this? I thought I was logged in as Administrator on the second system while examining the drive. Later I may try putting the drive back into my laptop and booting off a CD to try to repair the disk, but my highest priority is to get some critical files off the drive as soon as possible.

I have another disk with a working and booting install of Windows 7 (same architecture etc) on. I have the entire contents of the non-booting system disk that I can access from the image of it.
