Flash No Longer Works In Any Browser
I just got this new computer, running 64-bit Windows 7 Home Premium. Everything was working fine at first, but then it automatically updated some things. Now, Flash doesn't work online anymore, in any browser. The content starts to load, then the browser freezes, and I have to force quit it.
I have the most recent version of Flash Player, and I can still play .swf files I make myself, so I don't know what to do anymore.
I'm fairly sure that this isn't an isolated problem, as a friend of mine is experiencing the same thing.
In a possibly related problem, .avi and other video files on my hard drive no longer play, nor do music files.
I doubt my specs are needed, since this is almost certainly a software problem, but I'm running on a Dell Studio, with a 2GHz dual core processor and with 4Gb of RAM.

No Browser Works After Upgrade Install
I did an upgrade install from Vista. Everything about the network appears to work. Network connection is established and shows internet connectivity (appears to be quicker and more stable than under Vista). Ping works for most sites like google.com, yahoo.com, but not msn.com. However, when I try to connect to a web site, either external or internal, both IE8 and Chrome just sit there and eventually time out. This is true for google.com and my wireless router config utility at 192.168.0.1 (internal address). I have two other systems, one Vista, One OSX connected to the same network and they continue to work fine.Anyone else had this problem?

Browser Flash Problem
I have Windows 7 RTM, and I'm using both FF 3.5 and IE8. I have this problems - many times when I'm viewing web pages with flash, the browser halts and I can't use the session anymore. It happens on both browsers. I've uninstalled it and then they work just fine but then I lose functionality. I tied to Install the latest flash version (10), but it halts the browsers again. Anyone familiar with this problem?

Win 7 64x Reinstall - XP Mode No Longer Works
XP mode was running fine on my Win7 64x (build 7100) box, until I uninstalled Norton 2010 (beta). The OS became very unstable after I outed Norton, I reinstalled the OS and now I can't reinstall Virtual PC / XP Mode. I get a message from the installer that says "The update is not applicable to your computer" when I run "Windows6.1-KB958559-x64.msu". When I use Microsoft's "havdetectiontool.exe" tool, it says "this computer meets the processor requirements to run Windows Virtual PC." Has anyone else had a similar experience and been successful with work around?

Choppy Video Playback [mainly In Browser Flash Player]
I have a problem. The video playback in browser, every browser, using Flash plugin [e.g. YouTube, Dailymotion, etc.] plays smoothly but freezes for a second or two every once in a while. This happens during full screen playback as well as windowed one. I also have a problem getting smooth playback using windowed mode of SubEdit player [I translate stuff so need this player feature, can't replace it for Media Player Classic], even though full screen playback is just fine. Same clips playback perfectly in MPC, VLC and other players. I guess the problem is somehow connected with the player, although my colleagues didn't experience this problem, neither did they experience choppy Flash playback. Any ideas? I'm using 190.38_desktop_win7_winvista_64bit_english_whql as drivers.

Computer Browser Service
The Computer Browser service worked yesterday. Today, none of the computers on my LAN (three XP boxes all in the same workgroup) appear in Windows Explorer. One issue appears to be that the browser service fails to start at boot up, despite being configured as automatic. I click the start link and it starts. Stop and restart links appear in the services dialog. But no computers appear. Clicking Restart results in a stop with no start. The start link reappears. This scenario is repeatable. Any computer can be accessed by keying in the UNC in Explorer's path bar. This makes it appear (in lower case) in the network list. Exit Explorer and relaunch it, and the computer disappears from the list. Is there any way to troubleshoot this? The network troubleshooter says all is well and suggests I talk to somebody else.  Surely, an OS that occupies several GB of HD space and occupies a Gig of RAM should be able to figure out how to deal with a 4 computer peered LAN. Windows 9, anyone?

What Function Or Feature Should A Browser Support ?
In another topic about browsers, one member said concerning their browser of choice, "Speed isn't really an issue. Instead, it's more about the browser's features." I thought that was an extremely interesting point, so rather than drive that thread [further] off-topic, I decided to start this thread, with a comment, and a couple questions, and ask that you add your own comments as to what you expect a browser, your next browser, to do or support. One necessary ground rule - this is not about which browser is better or not, just what you feel your next browser should do, or support. Features you like, must have, or would like to see. Or even features you don't like. A word processor should enable a user to create documents. An anti-malware scanner should detect and protect you from malware. A firewall should protect ports. An operating system should make all of them, and all your hardware work seamlessly together. History has shown us over and over again that when software makers start adding extra features and functions (some may say, "flashy lights" or "bells and whistles" - some may say, "bloat" or "foistware") to applications, anti-malware programs, firewalls, operating systems, etc., that our computers (hard drives, desktops, Start menus, and system resources - RAM and CPU clock cycles) and patience often tend to get bogged down with all that extra "fluff". With that in mind,What basic "function" or functions do you expect your browser to perform? What native (integrated) "features" must your browser include? What "add-on feature" or "plug-in" is a "must have" for you? Should it be native to all browsers?

Network Browser Not Seeing Other (XP Pro) Systems
I'm having a lot of fun with Windows 7 RC1 32bit, but one problem I can't seem to fix. If I try to browse to my XP systems all I see is the Windows 7 system. When I do a net view from the Win 7 system, I get: System error 6118 has occurred. The list of servers for this workgroup is not currently available I can net view all shares on Desktop and Webserver, both of which run XP Pro. I can start Windows Explorer using UNC names like DesktopHP_C (C: drive on HP Desktop), and once I've done that, I can then see all the shares for Desktop in the same Windows Explorer window. Likewise, my Win 7 system does not show when I do a net view from either of the XP systems, but does show shared resources if I net view dell-p370. Seems to be just the network browser that is not working yet all the necessary services (I think) are running. I am not using Home Group, just straight sharing. I have Comodo Internet Security suite installed, Windows Firewall is not enabled. I have 192.168.2.0 / 255.255.255.0 enabled in Comodo's Network zone.

Win 7 X64 Freezes When Any Web Browser Is Opened
This issue just randomly started a few days ago, and I haven't found anyone on the internet that's having the same problem. Anytime I open a web browser and try to open a webpage, the page starts to load but then the entire computer immediately freezes. It's not the BSOD, it just freezes the screen and becomes completely unresponsive. I tried leaving it for a while but it just continues to be frozen.

Now I can no longer access my C drive, Get a message that the administrator (me) has banned me! At the same time, I started gettin a message that my antivirus key is not valid. Antivirus no longer works. (Avast). Also at about the same time my email programme (Thunderbird) started telling me that it could not download any more messages as there was insufficient room. Even after deleting several messages, the same fault continues. It looks like scrap W7 and reinstall, unless anyone has a better idea.

My Computer No Longer Exists
I recently installed a problem called EnhanceMySe7en and tried a few tweaks however things didn't really turn out as I had planned. I made a system restore point before I made the changes, but then when I tried to restore it back, it says there were no points available ... Thats wierd coz I've made 3 restore points over the last 3 days as I've been changing stuff. Anyways I would love it if anyone knows a possible fix for the problems I've encounterd. 1) The "my computer" link has dissapeared from the start menu (no option to re-add in the startmenu properties) 2) When I open "my computer" shorcut from rocketdock I get no drives showing up 3) Option to add my computer icon to desktop greyed out 4) "My computer" is no longer in the left pane of explorer (libraries and network etc are still there). It means I can't browse to my files. I can only if it lets me type in an address like C:windows etc... but in some browse dialogs I'm locked out completely 5) Another unrelated issue in my shutdown menu. I have logoff, sleep, hibernate, restart options in my shutdown menu, but no shutdown I suspect with the My Computer issue that its deleted some registry keys pointing to it... please let me know if you have any ideas how to fix it.

WIn 7 Will No Longer Boot
Today I did a fresh install of Windows 7 Build 7232 because it was newer and also because Build 7077 would no longer boot. I have reinstalled 7077 and reinstalled 7232 twice. Windows works okay for a while and then will freeze and I will have to power off the PC and restart. But when I try to turn it back on it hangs at the Starting Windows screen. My other desktops have no troubles with Windows 7 at any build. I can start in Safe Mode but nothing else. Thanks in advance. PS I had just finished installing Adobe CS4 software and was using Google Chrome when it froze. BD 09 is my antivirus with firewall disabled, firewall is Windows Firewall. And all are x64 installations.

CD / DVD Drivers No Longer Work
Some time in the last few weeks the CD / DVD drivers stopped working. When I look for them using the Device Manager I see them there but they're disabled (i.e. have the yellow triangle with the red exclamation mark displayed over top of them). When I look at the properties, I see a message telling me the drivers could not be verified to work with Windows 7. Of course, the drivers were authored by Microsoft. When I try to update the drivers, I get a dialogue box telling me I have the latest drivers. Has anyone else run across this? Is there a fix? I can't upgrade to the RC (or anything else for that matter) as long as this issue perisists.

Scanner No Longer Supports Pdf
Among the updates available in my latest Windows 7 updates were an optional "Hewlett-Packard - Imaging, Printing - hp psc 2100 series" update (Released November 2006) and Microsoft driver update for HP psc 2100 Series. I have no idea why this old update is available now, Windows sought out the required drivers upon install, all functionality available on my old HP psc 2110xi... I regress. Following the update I have lost my ability to scan directly in pdf format using either Adobe Acrboat 9.0 Pro or Microsoft Fax and Scan. Acrobat presents "Error while interacting with the scanner: the selected scanner was not found". Windows Fax and Scan works fine, but is limited to non-pdf image format ouputs (e.g. tiff, jpg, png). I experienced no issues of the like prior to the updates. I've attempted to uninstall the update to no avail. Although the updates are visible in View update history, they cannot be found in the Installed Updates pane. Hence, there is no readily apparent way for me to remove them without rolling back my system. I have also tried rectifying this issue using Device Manager. FAIL.

Win 7 No Longer Connects To Any Network
I installed Windows 7 over my Vista Ultimate 64 installation a couple of months ago. It has been working fine and as it is a laptop (HP) I connected via wireless to my router and had Internet access etc A couple of days ago I lost connection to the Internet via wireless (and also Ethernet which I tried). I also noticed that the Firewall was not working any more The Diagnostics failed as the Diagnostic Policy Service was not working When I look at the Services there are a number that are not started, and when I try to start them I get a message "Error 5: Access Denied" It looks like most of these services are related, but I can't work out what component is the problem.

DVD Player No Longer Listed Anywhere In Pc
Sometime between Saturday night and Sunday my DVD player disappeared from anywhere on my pc-device manager, my computer, etc. It is listed as "unplugged" by my driver detector. I have searched for solutions and tried tweaking the registry. It seems the most common error for others is no digital signature, but as my device is not detected, I never get that error. I tried rolling back my pc to no avail, and no updates were installed since this quit.

Win 7 No Longer Boots After Removal Of XP
I did have the following setup, on a single drive, two partitions: 345GB: Windows XP (installed first) 120GB: Windows 7 I've made a slight mistake – I've deleted the partition which hosted the MBR for my dual boot setup. Basically, I have a single hard drive split into two partitions. I thought that I was thoroughly satisfied with Windows 7, so I decided to delete the partition which XP was sitting on. Little did I realise/remember at the time, but the XP partition held all the boot information, thus rendering my newly formed single partition unbootable. I booted GParted to ensure that my partition was intact, and it showed the following: /dev/sda1 Extended 465GB LBA /dev/sda5 NTFS 465GB Boot (I manually flagged /dev/sda5 as 'boot') This all appeared normal to me, so I put my Windows 7 disc in and attempted the various repair options. In my experience (with XP), FIXMBR from the command prompt usually fixes the issue, in this situation it hasn't. I've also tried 'BootRec.exe /fixmbr' & 'BootRec.exe /fixboot'. None of which seem to work. My last attempt at fixing this was using the 'Startup repair' option on the Windows 7 disc. This hasn't worked either. Can someone perhaps kindly offer me a solution? I'd rather not reinstall Windows.

Unresponding Programs Cause System To No Longer Work
Occasionally when I attempt to open Itunes, the process would start up but the program would not fully load. This also happens to other applications as well. Not sure if it's related or not but everytime the program is unable to fully load, I would not be able to access my hard drives or my directories. Windows Explorer would just not do anything. I am unable to terminate the process as well and it just hangs and typically, I'd have to reboot the system in order for everything to work again. After a reboot, I can then open the programs that I want to. I find that maybe whenever the computer is put to sleep and it wakes up again, this issue also occurs. Is it because of my hard drives being put to sleep? How do I test to find out what's the issue or submit a bug report or something?
