I need to delete 100's of Gigabytes of info off of an external drive sometimes. But I cannot afford to do a quick format. It takes so long to delete that much info, even if I were to bypass the recycling bin. Isn't there a fast way? A quick format is very quick, but deletes everything.

When I right click on an icon on the desktop, I have less choices than normal (cannot rename, deletesee properties, ect). Only thing I did before this occured is that I converted file system from FAT32 to NTFS via command in cmd prompt, but I'm not sure if that showed up after that. So, I don't have "delete" or "rename" commands on right click. Backup of all files is a no go since I don't have so much free space atm. I use my user account which is also admin account.

View 1 Replies View RelatedSo I just purchased a SSD and put Win 7 on it. All is fine and dandy, but I still like to visit my Vista instance on the old hard drive. It appears that the only way to switch between which hard drive & OS to boot to is to go into the BIOS, rearrange the boot sequence, and then reboot. This is rather clumsy and time consuming IMO. Is there a faster way to choose which hard drive to boot from? I've looked into "dual booting" which will prompt the user with a simple menu to choose which OS to boot into. This is exactly what I want. The problem is that it appears this is only available when both OS's are on one hard drive, which is not my situation.

I recently ran across a couple of 74Gb Western Digital Raptor drives (WD740) in my garage and wanted to integrate one of them into my computer that I use to store my DVD backups on (etc), with the hopes of increasing system performance without having to perform a complete system reinstall.
Also money is a concern; or else I would just get a Solid State Drive.
This computer is running 64bit Win 7 Home Premium I have 8Gb ram installed. The Raptor is formatted and assigned drive letter (Z:).

View 7 Replies View RelatedIt's been a while, but I built my first PC a couple of months ago. So far everything works great. But now, My DVD drive doesn't show up in My Computer. I checked Device Manager, and I have an error for my driver. Here is the error:
"Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)"
I have tried using Driver Fusion to wipe out all drivers and reinstall with no change. The drive shows up in BIOS so it's not a connection problem. I'd prefer not to reinstall the OS....
I have literally many hundreds of .png files that serve no apparent function other than clutter. When I try to delete them the message is, "You require permission from "TrustedInstaller" to make changes to this file". "Unlocker" can delete these files but only one at a time. Is there software out there that can delete a bunch at a time?

I still do not see the optical drive listed. In the device status window, under the general tab of the device manager window, is shown this message:

But I didn't find the advanced search... and there were no result previews for pdf files (at least I didn't find it).The Ideal software would be like this: I put all the PDFs in a folder > Software indexed all the files in the folder and subfolders. once it's finished indexing I can enter advanced searches in the software and it immediately shows me not only the files which contain the search terms but also a preview (like google results, where you can see the search term highlighted in context)

The drive was bootable as Windows 7 pro x64, but now I want to remove all system folders from it, keeping all backups and private data untouched, but I need special rights for most of the folders/files inside Windows folder: it requests for TrustedInstaller privileges. I'm using a Windows 7 enterprise 32bit, logged in as a AD domain user that is also on local Administrators group. I tried taking ownership, but it failed.

It sounds strange to delete a backup, but it's because it's an old backup from another computer.I've tried to delete the folder in Ubuntu which i've installed on a third-partition. It seems to work, but when i change to Windows there is a folder named .Trash-1000. I HAVE emptied the trash can in Ubuntu. If I rename the folder in Windows to f.x. "Delete me!", I can see it again in Ubuntu. Maybe I have to say that i've a bit problems when i have to remove the HDD from Ubuntu. It's says that there still is a process running, but the process doesn't stop. I've waited for an hour now. If I right click on the process and select "End task", Ubuntu works a few seconds and when it says "You can remove the movable disk now".

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a USB external hard drive that I keep all my documents etc on (had it for years)I upgraded from Vista Home to & Home Premium then had to upgrade recently to Professional to run my Sage. Through all these upgrades my ext. drive ran fine. Occasionally the drvie letter would change if I had something else plugged into the USB, this was always easily corected in disk management by changing the drive path.The connection on the case packed up so I had to get the drive put into a new case, now when I plug it in the drive is assigned G instead of F, I tried to change the drive letter allocation in Disk Management but it won't let me as the program still thinks I have a second ext. hard drive which is labelled F. I suspect this has happened because when the usb connection broke the drive was disconnected suddenly instead of a proper eject.How do I get Disk Management to remove the inactive drive - i can't find any obvious way - eject, delete etc are all missing when I click on tools or tasks.

I noticed that if I do anything to a file that is in an external drive, that file can not be saved under the same name (read only). In order to do so one must save it internally and then copy or move it to the external drive.So I did just that--I copied a file from taken from an external drive, saved it in the internal one and then copied it back to the external one. Now if I r-click the propeerties of these 2 same files and then go to the 'Security' tab a difference is immediately apparent: The internal one has -1- System & -2 My-computername (user-PCuser and -3- Administrators (user-PCAdministrators) with all 3 accounts allowing all (full control, read, write, etc..). While the external drive has in Properties; -1- System -2- Administrators (user-PCAdministrators) and -3- Users (user-PCUserrs) with this final 3d one (and different one) with no Allow for "full control, or modify or write. So how does one have all its files in this external drive behave and be equal to all the same files in the internal drive?Since -3- Users (user-PCUserrs) in the external drive is that which is differnt from the internal drive I was wondering if it is OK to delete this Permission or 'attribute' or whatever it is called and create instead one equal to the one in the internal drive -3- Administrators (user-PCAdministrators)? ANd of course doing so in one go and not file after file after file individually?
