DrayTek Firewall And Netgear Managed Switch Setup
Jan 28, 2013
I am trying to setup a DrayTek firewall (DrayTek Vigor 2830) with my Netgear 24port Managed Switch (Netgear GS724TS). The DrayTek works fine when plugged directly into a PC however once plugged into the switch the computers connected cannot seem to get an IP even when setting statically. I have been told things like multicast need to be off for the data to translate this is off on my settings, I must be missing a setting?

I would like to confirm that the settings I have are correct for a second managed switch I am adding to my network. DHCP I have disabled, IP address I have found one on the network unused (192.168.1.xxx), subnet mask is 255.255.255.0. The only thing I'm not sure about is the default gateway setting

I have PC tools firewall plus installed on my system. Is it really necessary to switch on windows own firewall along with that? Because it has switched off windows firewall. I am asking this question because somewhere in this forum I read that we should switch windows firewall as well. It is difficult to go to windows firewall and switch it on every time I open my computer.

I'm looking for some help with some Windows Firewall advanced settings. I've already downloaded Vista Firewall Control to simplify the firewall setup, and its really doing what I want (asking me for any inbound and outbound connections), but the free version doesn't allow control over general network access (at least not that I can find so far). I need to get my Windows 7 computer to recognize my WinXP in the network screen, something that I can't seem to do without making some special rules in the firewall settings.
I've already turned off "password protected sharing" and set the "send password" option in gpedit.msc to enabled... settings which worked well in a previous install (AVG removed my access to folder options so I had to reinstall), but I can't seem to get to work now that I've installed VFC. So I guess I need to know what "rules" I need to set up to retain the strict control over inbound/outbound connections that I've got with VFC, but still allow easy network access between the 2-3 computers on my router.

But I cannot get my NEW Netgear N600 router to communicate with a NEW Netgear WN 3000 RP extender. The instructions say to press the WPS button on the extender then the WPS button on the router. No WPS button exists on the router! The instructions also I can use any wireless network manager utility to set this up. Can't find where this is in Windows 7.The I pad has found the NETGEAR_EXT address but won't connect. And the light on the extender does no indicate teh router is communicating with it.

I'm running Windows 7 64-bit on a custom PC with Pentium Dual-Core 2.50GHz and 4GB RAM and have been having some "low memory" issues occasionally, seemingly due to Firefox hogging up memory.
So I looked at what my paging file settings were. They're currently set as "system managed": minimum 16MB, recommended 6141MB, and currently allocated 516MB. It says in Windows Help that it automatically sets the initial paging file as minimum four times the RAM plus 300MB, and the maximum as three times the amount of RAM. Obviously it hasn't set these parameters. My question is: should I change the settings manually to reflect these recommendations?
BTW: I have less than 1GB on the drive, so would Windows change the settings to reflect this, or does it allocate it separately?

Whenever I switch user accounts the computer will start the switch and then lock up with a display message that says no signal on the monitor. It happens if the computer has been running for hours or only a couple of minutes. I have to shut the PC off and leave it off for 20-30 minutes. I can then restart and enter any user account. But if I try to switch user or logoff and pick a different user the whole cycle begins anew.

Recently had a virus infection and noticed that the windows firewall service is missing. When trying to reset to recommended settings by using control panel received error code 0x80070424. Cannot access other computers or shared files/folders on home network. Saw a previous post dated 12-17 that appears to be the same problem.

one of the netbooks was plugged in to initially power it up, but then hard-shut-down before Windows could run through its initial setup. Now when I boot up the netbook, and it attempts to go through the initial windows setup "Setup is starting services", and then throws an error message: The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows installation cannot proceed. To install Windows, click "OK" to restart the computer, and then restart the installation.I restart, and the cycle continues. This happens whether I try to boot normally or in safe modeI've got no CD-drive attached to it, so I'm not sure what I can do to break this error cycle.

I have 7 Ultimate. I was recently given a NetGear WG311 V3 54/mbs Pci card. Can't seem to find out why it won't work. So many things wrong in my Os atm, but this for now. I tried the Marvell driver. Nope! Absolutely nothing in my Devices and PrintersI installed the Smart Wizard. Again, nope! I tried un-installing and re-installing both. Same as before, nope! The software, when clicked, flashes a small icon in the tray, then, bam. Gone. I now have a signal bar, with a red cross, as if my device was disabled. (Like on a laptop.)

Just installed windows 7 64 bit.
I'm using a pci wireless adapter chip, Netgear wg311v3 I installed the netgear driver automatically, and then installed the netger smart wizard. However, the smart wizard will not start up. I've done some research, and apparently netgear doesn't make 64bit drivers. I've also tried using the chipset driver which is a Marvell 88w8335. But I may not have used the right driver.
To sum it up:
I have a netgear wg311v3 adapter. Running Windows 7 64bit. It won't run the wizard.
What should I do? Do I need to go back to 32 bit?

I'm running a Netgear PS121v2 usb print server. It had no issues under XP but within Vista / Windows 7 there was a defect.
The driver for the V2 when installed came up as unsigned, therefore the installation wouldn't proceed any further.
I looked around the net, and a few people had found a workaround with installing the printer manually within Vista.
For me this still didn't work, as when the test page prints, it hangs one line from the end.
The netgear support site stated that the driver for the PS121v2 was compatible with XP through Vista 32 and 64bit.
So I took a chance and did the following:
Solution:
Download the Drivers for the PS121v1
The difference from what I gather after reading some technical papers is that the firmware in the v2 allows for sharing of the multifunctions of multifunction printers.
The PS121v1 software is signed for Vista and installed no problem.
I first connected the printer (an officejet 4100 series) to the PC and Windows 7 found all the necessary drivers. - impressive as HP's own site says that it doesn't support vista.
I then connected the printer to the PS121 on the router, and installed the PS121v1 drivers.
The drivers configure the existing printer setup to run on the printserver by modifying it's port details and settings.
Prints fine, with no glitches.

I just purchased a Netgear 3500 Gigabyte router. The NetGear site indicates that their 3500v2 supports Window 7 but I cannot determine when they will support the 3500 I own. Anyone Know? Read a review that my version can be installed MANUALLY. Any COMMENTS? Next driver problem... Neither the NetGear nor the Lynksys wireless adaptors have Windows 7 drivers(dualband, rangemax, gigagyte adaptors).
Any suggestions?

I just installed the Windows 7 upgrade. My printer would not print so I called Dell. I was on the phone with them for 3 hours trying to get it to print. They eventually told me that my wireless router, (Netgear WNR2000) had a wrong IP address of 168. something. They told me I had to change it to a 192. number. They further told me to change to WEP. I went to the wireless site and typed in 192.168.1.1 and logged in. I changed it to WEP but then the internet would not work. I do not know what to do. Can someone please help me?

I have Windows 7 64 bit. I bought a Netgear DGN2000 approximately two years ago. It is working well. Currently, there is good connectivity between my laptop and the modem/router (wired and wireless).
I worked on my desktop this morning, uninstalled some programmes, but must have uninstalled a driver or something. I inserted the Resource CD, which installs the modem (although it is installed). Then it stalls at some point. If I troubleshoot, it states Windows do not detect a properly installed network adaptor.

The drivers for my WG111 won't work with Windows 7 rev 7000.
It says they are unsigned in the device manager, and that is why windows doesn't like them.
I have tried the following:
1. Running the software in compatibility mode:
2. BCDedit.exe set testing, signing, etc.
Still no luck, and i can't seem to find the driver without the software installer and the software sort of halfway hangs at the end of the installation when I am trying to install, and I think this is the problem.

Does anyone know if there is a Windows 7 driver/software etc. for the Netgear DG834GT router. If so do they have a link that I can follow to get it?
I know that my Netgear WG111T Adaptor does not have one as yet which is causing me problems when my PC crashes without warning.

I thought I share some easy fix for the Netgear Wireless USB WG111v2 Driver Installation problem that worked for me.
Very simple!! Instead of trying to install the driver software and going thru the complicated process....
1. Just plug your ethernet cable into the computer so your computer will have internet access.
2. Plug your Netgear Wireless USB device into the USB port and wait a few seconds and Window 7 will go and retrieve your driver and install everything for you.
3. Done! There's no 3rd step!

I am considering the purchase of a NetGear ReadyNas Ultra 2 Plus for my home network. At the present time, I have a file server that is about 6 years old running an old pair of 200GB hard drives. While these drives are not mirrored, they are synchronized multiple times per day using Robocopy.I've reached the point where I don't want to manage and maintain a server (windows or linux) to provide simply storage on my network. By going with a NAS device, I can eliminate OS patches and updates and having to maintain another device. The NAS device will consume less power than my server, and take less physical space. And these NAS devices have DNLA built-in, so streaming from my PS3 and 360 should be simple. And the particular version of this NAS device offers iSCSI target support...which i could take advantage of in my virtual lab at home.
I've found the Ultra 2 Plus for $379 from Amazon. This model has the dual core atom processor, which is advertised and reviewed to provide around 30% more performance than the single core atom offering.. I'm planning to add a pair of 2TB Seagate Barracude Green 64MB Cache and run them in the mirrored Netgear X-RAID2 setup. This provides a mechanism so that I can actually replace the 2TB drives later with larger drives without having to backup and restore data to the device.Any particular reason you guys can think of to say this is a bad idea? With both drives, I'm looking at $619 for a small, silent device, which allows hot-swap drives, easy sharing and support for my 360/PS3 and it provides 2TB of mirrored storage space.

I recently bypassed my previous BSOD issue by simply replacing my HDD with a SSD and doing a fresh install of Windows 7 64bit Pro.
Where the computer is currently located, I need to run wireless internet. To do this, I have used a NetGear wireless adapter "WNDA3100v2". It's a nice adapter, and it's worked fine for about 2 years, including immediately prior to adding my new SSD.
So I fire up my fresh copy of windows, and install my critical software. Once all of that is sorted, I go to install the drivers from the CD. I insert the USB adapter, and click next.
As soon as the adapter is inserted, Windows begins searching for a driver which fails. On the same instant that I click next, the proprietary software for the device says "detecting". This stays this way infinitely it seems, and never detects the device. If I just yank the adapter out, it will say "failed to detect", so this leads me to believe it is at least aware that it's there?
I tried to backdoor it, and ran a wired connection through my window, down the outside of the house, to my router LOL, and forced Windows to search for it's own updated driver. On most occasions, it just says "failed", but I was able to get it to find one last night, and it downloaded to 100% before it just hung up for a while, and then "failed".
