Recently had a virus infection and noticed that the windows firewall service is missing. When trying to reset to recommended settings by using control panel received error code 0x80070424. Cannot access other computers or shared files/folders on home network. Saw a previous post dated 12-17 that appears to be the same problem.
View 14 RepliesMy PC has been infected by some kind of virus that keeps coming back even after my anti virus has removed it(persistent). how to remove the virus and I ran into one of bleepingcomps tuts. It told me to run combofix, so I run it. And after I reboot the virus is gone. But then I checked my firewall and it showed the error.
My Av is MSE. OS is Win 7 Ultimate 32-bit
i randomly checked my firewall because suddenly i couldn't download anything from the web on any web browser,and it says to update firewall setting but i get this error.

Error code 0x80070424. Ive looked for a long time trying to find a solution, and from what ive gathered, I have malware (that I might have got rid of) that might have deleted these (they do not exist in the services list), but I am not positive

i checked my firewall and it was off and so was windows defender and before that i couldn't download anything no matter what browser i use, i get error codes trying to turn the firewall and defender.so i scanned my PC with Microsoft safety scanner it it found hacktool win32/keygen it said that it was only partially removed,is there a way to remove it.

Tried many options including running malware and virus programs. Maybe need to reinstall drivers for this? Will that be a complete reinstall or can it be only the drivers for the firewall,,,is it a driver issue at all?

The Windows backup service is not even listed in my service list.
I've tried the one fix circulating around here involving deleting the wbengine registry key and restoring it, to no avail.
My backup drive ran out of space a few weeks ago and I'd been ignoring it until now, before that it had been chugging along happily, not even missing a beat when I re imaged my boot drive over to a newer, faster one.
I've recently installed Windows 7 Ultimate x64 Beta Build 7000 and I have Comodo Firewall 3.8.65951.477 64-Bit installed as my firewall. I get this problem that I can't solve at all .
When I click on " Run Diagnostics" I have this :

PS : The Windows 7 Firewall is desactivated!

restoring Windows Firewall and Defender. I am running Windows 7 64 Bit. A few weeks ago I was infected by a trojan called "System Progressive protection". I used an uninstall guide for removal but I am unable to enable Windows Firewall and Defender. I get Error 0x800070424 whenever I try to open either Windows Firewall and Defender.
I am currently using anti-virus software provided by my internet service provider, but I would still like the option of having Windows Firewall and Defender available to me.
I am running Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit, now when i go to Control Panel and then to Windows Firewall I notice that it is turned off with box saying " update your Firewall settings " use "recommended settings " so I click on it and then I get a message coming up saying " WINDOWS FIREWALL CAN'T CHANGE SOME OF YOUR SETTINGS. ERROR CODE - 0x80070424 " so I have no idea what I can do to get the firewall working properly so am hoping someone can please help me,

Everything went smoothly until I applied the FreeSSHd encryption program.
When I try to connect with the computer the iphone gets this error:
Connection Error:
connection refused. You may have a firewall blocking access. Please check your connection settings & try again.
Now FreeSSHd has forums, but for some reason I get get past the challenge textbox. I've tried several times with different browers. It just wont let me post a question there.
I've looked in the firewall section in the control panel, but I dont see anything about FreeSSHd to enable?
Any help or ideas?
i m on the Lenovo T61 with Ultimate edition. now i got problem with Windows Firewall, as in the screenshot. then I cannot connect to the Internet thru WiFi at all. I got connected but Identify Internet sth, then Internet not work.

As of today, I am constantly getting a popup from the Internet Protection Firewall Alert saying I have serious threats and I keep saying "ignore". They say do you want to protect and get rid of the viruses and then they want me to buy something and I say no. But the popup still happen about every 2 minutes and it says JEMonster is found. I did run Super anitspyware yesterday, but that is all I've done. It did remove stuff from the registry. I can't even use the computer.

Last night I tried to set up a simple ftp server (to share a couple of folders, and access that folder through other computers connected to the network by typing the IP address into a browser/ftp client on the other computer). My problem simply is, that I cannot connect to the ftp. It works fine when I try to access it from my computer (which is the server).
But I can't connect to it through other computers, unless I turn off Windows Firewall. I tried playing around with the Inbound/Outbound rules (disabled/enabled everything), nothing worked. I also have FTP allowed in "Allow a program or feature through Windows Firewall", and I still haven't managed to get it to work. Can anyone suggest any solutions?
I've got an issue that's been driving me crazy. I've installed MobaSSH and the windows firewall absolutely refuses to let it through. I've taken down the firewall and everything works fine, so I know its the firewall. Same problem with a Serv-u FTP server but I'm not as worried about that as I am the SSH server. MobaSSH adds itself as a service, so while it was running I found the process and made sure that it was added to the firewall, I can find nothing else to add to exceptions. I haven't found much in terms of firewalls for Windows 7, so I would prefer to get this to work instead of switching firewalls

Looking at my update history it also failed to instal on the 18th October last year but it has not bothered me since and i have not noticed it until now. Of the seven attempts I had the following error codes from earliest to latest : 800B0100, 80246007, 80010108, 8024200D, 8024200D, 8024200D, 8024200D. I have followed advice from MS running KB947821 and FIX IT also disabled my Norton 360 firewalls and auto protect but to no avail. Also I do not have a DVD with Windows 7 as it was not supplied with my PC and I don't want to restore my computer and lose all my installed software.

When I went to Control Panel/Windows Firewall and clicked on "Turn Windows Firewall On or Off", all I saw in the "Customize settings for each type of network" window was the button "Use recommended settings" within a box called "Update your firewall settings". When I clicked on that button, nothing happened. Contrary to the picture shown in the Windows 7 Help pages, there was no option to actually turn the firewall on/off in this particular window. My intention is to simply verify the Windows Firewall is turned on after this virus happened.My questions are:1) Could an AV program/scanner program that I loaded have caused the Windows Firewall to be disabled (or replaced)? I think I removed the virus, but I cannot go onto the firewall. When I go to windows firewall, everything is disabled and thus not able to enable the firewall. View 1 Replies View RelatedI set up a network printer and for some reason, Windows won't print to it (no error, the jobs just queues indefinitely) unless the Windows Firewall is disabled. I tried making a rule to allow outbound connections for all programs on all ports (which it seems to me should be the same as turning the firewall off), but no luck. I looked at the port the printer is using and its some WSD port, but there isn't an option to allow one of these under the firewall rules. What is WSD? And does anyone have any suggestions about how to make this work?

I've been in services and checked to see if it was on "Startup Type: Automatic", and it was.
I don't want to have to manually start up the firewall each time I start my PC. I know viruses may be one of the reasons my firewall is acting this way, but my virus scans come up clean.
Using Windows 7 Firewall Control free version, and it seems very good.
I was wondering if anyone has paid for the PLUS version, and if it is worth it or not.
