View 0 Replies View RelatedDoes Windows 7 finally allow me to disable this "feature"? It's one of the few things which I have an irrational hate for. If I want to rename the file I will use the rightclick context menu. PLEASE. I only use the left mouse button for two things:selecting something and doubleclicking to open something.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've found 2 rather general purpose tools/utilities, that is: ShellMenuView and ShellExView for editing the CMIs in Windows 7. So, I got some questions.
1) Are there any "better" tools than those 2?
2) Are there any tools which combine Shell and Shell Extension editing in only ONE tool?
3) Are there any Win 7 build-in tools (Command line or GUI)?
I have been doing some cleaning recently, and in the startup section of msconfig, startup options for programs that I deleted are still there. They're disabled, but how do I get rid of them from the list completely?.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI currently have only 1 user on my system which is myself & it does not have a password, until recently it booted to desktop without any problems & then out of the blue, which I think after a bunch of windows updates I am now presented with the user select screen which I have to click to load into the desktop. How can I disable this as I have looked at the user controls & everything else I could remember to check & every time I reboot or boot up it goes to the user login screen which I only need to click because I don't use a password.
View 9 Replies View RelatedMy PC, EVERY time I cold boot, I get a blue screen on or before the Starting Windows screen. I have taken a wild guess that this is my video card or my mainboard because I remember seeing an "nv" in one of the errors a long time ago and I have dual 9600 vid cards and an NForce mainboard. This has happened since the PC was brand new, running Vista 64, but I never cared because after letting the box literally warm up, I can boot and reboot fine and everything. I am totally OK with this problem even though I have tried to fix it unsuccessfully without putting too much effort into it because I don't want to work on this all day ever as long as I can boot. It's cool. That has very little to do with my question though, but I am just presenting it as the cause, but I require any suggestions on fixing it the bluescreen. Its part of my life now, and I would probably feel weird without it at this point.
The actual problem is that i usually turn the PC on, walk away, come back in a few min to a bluescreen and then reboot, walk away again adn and Vista would come right up and be ready when I got back. Windows 7, after a failed boot, will kindly and with the best intentions assume that i want to fix that problem and will select Windows Startup Repair as the default boot option. I need to physically wait for this prompt and pick Start Normally. If I don't my PC is yelling at me for trying to cancel Windows Startup Repair because I know it can't find the solution to my problem, nor do I require it to fix that problem. I often forget to wait for this prompt and it slows down my normal workflow and cuts into my routine.
How can I select Start Normally as the default option after a failed boot? If I need to run Startup Repair, i will most likely make myself available to select it from the prompt. I don't see anything in Startup options and haven't had to manually configure a boot option via text file since Windows 98 so I'm not even 100% sure where to begin where to look.
I have a program called mscorsvw.exe that always runs at startup and it runs about 4 ngen.exe files along with it. This really lags my startup time to about another 5-10 seconds. Anyway to disable it or why this is happening?

However, I forgot to disable the startup chime before doing so. This is done in the Mac OS easily, but that doesn't work in Windows. I tried booting the installation disk and muting from there, but that doesn't work.

View 8 Replies View RelatedFI have a Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit computer with 6 GB of DDR2 and an Intel Core Quad processor. My problem started when the beta for Office 2010 came out. My computer came pre-installed with Office 2007 so I wanted to try the new and it wouldn't install. I didn't really care too much because I don't use Word or anything too much. But when I tried to reinstall Office 2007 I got the same error. Error 1935. Over a period of three days I spent with Microsoft Tech to just lead me to call Gateway about the problem. I figured it was a Microsoft Office thing, but recently, I tried to install Microsoft C++ and something else that another program relied on. Another error. And just today, I tried to update my Anti-Virus and I got this, "Installation of the Microsoft Runtime Redistributable Kit has failed. The probable cause is a Windows update running in parallel." So I updated my computer, with 2 unnecessary updates, and restarted. Same error.
So I made a repair disk and ran it, still the same problem. I've looked all over the web fornothing credible has worked. I have already deleted and un installed everything off my computer that isn't necessary for it to work. I just want to type up my essay with the comfort of not having to try to format things in WordPad.
Ever since I bought my new computer and installed Windows 7 64 bit Pro I have noticed that sometimes when I start my computer the startup locks up or crashes, requiring me to restart or it takes me to the system repair screen and running this process does nothing.

- Ctrl+c copies first object (or text)
- Holding down a key (let's say, Shift) along with Ctrl+c copies second object
- Ctrl+v pastes first object
- Shift+Ctrl+v pastes second object
Or some other method.
when i create a new object in any folder (eg adding a new folder) it does not appear at first. When i go to a different folder and then back to the new folder location, the object then appears. when i change the text of the new object again it does not change, it is still "new folder" or the previous name. then if I go to a different folder and back to the location of the renamed folder it has been renamed. it has to be a problem with windows or my hard drive
View 6 Replies View Relatedi'm running my Windows 7 on a SSD and i've done the optimized settins what i've read over the internet. I also use the Windows Classic theme, where i see the statusbar etc.My problem is when i open My computer and then go to some drive(non-SSD) it opens the drive but doesn't show the files/or shows the files but still they're not sorted correctly, untill it is done with the "Searching for items."(which is written on the statusbar at the bottom. This can take a few seconds to what seems like a minute, probably only though a good 30-40seconds.I wouldn't have a problem with this if it only did this once, but it does this "Searching for items." pretty much all the time when i go to a drives(non-SSD) root. Notice the root of the drive, when i go to some subfolders on the drive it doesn't "Search for items" and shows the files on the folder instantly, but when i then click back to the root of the drive it starts the "Searching for items." all over again. I had couple of thoughts of why this is happening, first i thought it would be because i had disabled the pagefile due to my SSD; now i've added the pagefile on my SSD and the problem is still there. The second thing which i thought of was the Indexing of the drives, i've disabled the Indexing on my SSD but i've left it on for every other drives. I don't know if there's a possibility that the indexing on the other drives may be off even though when i click on the drive and choose properties, i can see that the Allow indexing is chosen.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell Inspiron and a while ago I shut down my PC and the next morning I was faced with options to repair my computer. It hung on the screen for ages before it actually came up with startup repair and supposedly fixed the problem. A few days later, everything got very slow and started to freeze a lot and before long, booting the computer got very slow as well as it hung for about ten minutes on a black screen after the 'welcome' screen before finally starting up. I decided to reinstall the operating system (I did NOT reformat the C drive), so I borrowed my Grandma's external hard drive and copied my files. After reinstalling using a Dell Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium Re-Installation DVD, I copied and deleted the files off the external hard drive onto my PC (I didn't know it would create a Windows.old folder) and started installing programs. Then I left it overnight to install quite a big program. This morning, somehow it had turned off. I turned it on and it gave me the safe mode options and a 'start windows normally' option. I chose the latter and after typing my password it hung on the welcome screen again. I left it for ages and it just went back to the user login screen again. I pressed the red button in the corner to shut it down but it just hung once again on an empty screen so I did a hard shutdown (held down the power button). I turned it on again...startup repair. It gave me the option for system restore, which I did (then realising when it finished that I hadn't made a backup). I booted it, and again it wouldn't start properly. At this time, safe mode booted fine. After trying various things (even using a compressed air can to get rid of dust) and a few hard shutdowns, suddenly every option from the advanced boot menu took me to startup repair except 'Repair your Computer' which gave the normal options for repair (although now it only gives me 2, Startup Repair and DataSafe Restore and Emergency Backup. Now when I do startup repair, some times it says it has fixed the problem, and sometimes it says it cannot be fixed automatically and gives me information on the problem (a few things it said were: 'StartupRepairOffline', 'AutoFailover' and 'CorruptRegistry').
I can't reinstall my computer because then I would lose my precious files.
Is there some way I can save my files and reinstall or even just save my files somehow or am I screwed?

View 2 Replies View RelatedWhere can I find my recently accessed items in Windows 7 Ultimate?
It used to be there when I clicked in start (the little window thing in the corner) but I can't find it now.
I vaguely recall that when I first got on Windows 7 I was able to do the new feature taskbar rearrangement with all items on the bar, but currently when I try to move one explorer item it wants to move them all, which means I can put a program to the left or right of all explorer windows, but I can't move an explorer window opened later left of any earlier one. Is that a standard limitation? is my memory failing me, or have I maybe changed some feature that does allow explorer items on the taskbar to be shuffled amongst each other, rather than being effectively attached to each other in their present order?
