Aug 30, 2011I have Windows 7 Home Premium and I want to encrypt files, I saw A LOT tutorial how to encrypt filesAnd most ways are with that option, some how on my computer its disabled. why?Please I really want to encrypt some very important files and I can't.and I don't wanna use software cause I really don't like use this kind of software.

Jul 10, 2011I have a 2TB hard drive which I bought to back up my DVD collection. At the time I thought I would never fill it, but at this point it is almost full and I can easily see myself filling another one some time in the future.I plan on adding another 2TB drive and putting them in RAID to appear as one volume, but I did this in the past (in RAID 0) and when one drive failed I lost everything. What would be the best way to keep 3-4TB of data safe?Is there an easy backup method or am I gonna have to bite the bullet and buy 3 more 2TB drives so I can do a RAID 1+0 configuration? I know this is a good way to do this, but I am cringing at having 4TB of space that is basically there just for backup. It seems like a ton of space to waste.

Sep 28, 2011My setup: Windows 7 Ultimate x64 on ThinkPad T510. 1HD, two partitions (C and D).I just reinstalled my system and encrypted C; however, there is absolutely no option to encrypt D. I've tried accessing the drive from admin account and still nothing. When I open BitLocker management, it only lists partition C and not D.Here is some additional information that might or might not matter: I tried to restore my Windows 7 from an Acronis image and it was unsuccessful. Tried it twice and during booting POST showed two different W7s installed, which was incorrect. When I finally installed Windows 7 from scratch, the extra W7s were still appearing before startup and I had to use EasyBCD to remove them. Now when I am trying to backup partition C, Acronis says that my System Reserved Partition (SRP) is on partition D. My hunch is that Acronis messed up my drive D when I was trying to restore my C partition. Then when I did a fresh Windows 7 install, the SRP incorrectly ended up in D and since SRP cannot be encrypted, that means that my entire drive D can�t be encrypted either. I am dreading about going through formatting my 750GB HD and installing Windows 7 and encrypting it yet again. I read somewhere that you can use software like Acronis Disk Manager to move the SRP to drive C, but I am not sure how this will work because when I open the native winodws Disk Management, I don�t see SRP there.

Dec 9, 2011I have Asus N55SF laptop, with Windows 7 SP1 64 bit. Also, I have 2 external hard drives. One with USB 3.0, and one USB 2.0. Following problems, I am going to describe below, happen to the both of them. Just to mention, external drives are tested on desktop computer and following problems do not happen.
Let me now describe what happens when I try certain actions:
- When I try to copy large files (10 or more GB) I get an error that destination is no longer visible. External drives disappear from My Computer and I can't do safe remove. But when I copy files using programs FastCopy or TeraCopy everything copies well and drives do not disappear.
- When I try to do Windows Backup and encrypt them using BitLocker drives also disappear, and are not visible within OS.
There is a difference between external hard with USB 3.0 port and the one with 2.0 port:
- When one with 3.0 disappears after described actions I can't see it from Device Manager, I can see it only after windows reboot. USB 3.0 disk connects to one USB 3.0 port on laptop.
- When one with 2.0 port disappears I can see it from Device Manager, and I only have to unplug it, and plug it in again to see it. USB 2.0 disk connects to 2 USB 2.0 ports on laptop.
Common to both disks is that when then disappear from My computer the diode on the external disk cases are still flashing, what probably means that they have some power. Both disk are formated to NTFS, and Allocation unit size is set to: Default. Their removal policy is set to: Better performance (default). On laptop I only have Windows, Office and Asus drivers. Antivirus is: MSE.
Can't Access Some Secure Sites Windows 7/IE9
Feb 21, 2012I use Win 7 and IE9. In the past two weeks, all of a sudden I can't log in to one financial site, and on another financial site, I can log in, but have difficulty getting to my account. I've spoken to the sites' tech people and all is ok on their end. I've run virus scans, both in safe and regular mode and nothing is found.

Dec 8, 2011I just got a new PC with Windows 7 installed and have run into this issue twice, both times with a particular folder - let's call it "UsefulDocuments2" (the actual folder name DOES have a 2 at the end, but there is no folder called "UsefulDocuments").
Sometimes, when I try to view the folder contents using Explorer or through Windows Live Mail (in an attempt to include a file in the folder as an attachment), I can't view the contents of the folder. When I access the folder, it has the proper path listed in the address bar of the window and displays the number of items (171) in the lower left corner. However, the status bar just says "Searching for items..." except I can occasionally see it flicker to say "171 items."
While it is "Searching for items..." (which is 99.9% of the time), it doesn't display any of the contents of the folder. The scrollbar on the side of the window constantly flickers - it's recognizing that there are 171 items in the folder and that the scrollbar is necessary, but then keeps re-searching the folder contents, I guess.
Weirdly, if I change the folder name to, say, "UsefulDocuments" it works fine (at least right now). If I then change it back to "UsefulDocuments2" it reverts to its old behavior. Also, if I open a file in it in Word (2010), I can view and access the contents of the folder without any problem at all.
Obviously, I can just change the folder name, but don't really want to for organizational reasons, and also am just curious as to what's going on and how to fix it should it happen to other folders, etc.
Contents Of CD/DVD Not Visible In Windows Explorer
Mar 27, 2009I'm using 7057. Not sure when this problem started as I don't use CDs or DVDs that much. The drive works fine, ImgBurn works fine, all other programs seem to see the files on a disk fine, they just don't show up in Windows Explorer. I click on the drive in the "Navigation Pane" and nothing happens. I've tried two good DVD drives, uninstalled ImgBurn and PowerISO, still nothing.

Sep 26, 2012I have album artwork displayed for every album/directory in my music directory (D:Music) by using a folder.ico and a desktop.ini file.This method was used as a work-around to fix the deficiency in Windows Vista and 7 to no longer display front-facing album covers using the folder.jpg file.This work-around looks fantastic and actually looks better than XP because it's borderless.It also has the advantage of staying loaded into memory, which I have plenty of, until I restart the computer, unlike the use of folder.jpg, which has to be reloaded every time the directory is opened and scrolled.However, when I first open my music folder, it has to load all the artwork and I have to manually scroll through the entire directory until all of the folder.ico files are read.I have a very large library and this takes some time. I can set D:Music to open at startup, and it will read the folder.ico files for the visible albums/directories, but then I still have to manually scroll after that.Is there any way to force Windows to load the folder.ico files for every folder in my D:Music directory at startup, with no intervention from me? When I go to open or scroll through the music directory, all of my album artwork has already been pre-loaded into memory and thus it is a seamless flow of album artwork with no waiting.

That changes what I see in the Contents Pane. I can see the Date of the files. But, when I change to a different folder, I have to do it all over again. How can I make this change permanent?
