Is there a way to encrypt a file or folder on Win 7 Pro 64bit ? I would like to keep all my passwords and/or account logins for all my on line activity somewhere on the PC so I don't have to setup a new password/login every time I can't remember what password goes with what on-line account ?
Running a personal home network with 2 Win 7 machines and 3 XP Pro (SP3) machines with a firewall and AV protection.
Is there any way to password protect a folder in Win 7 (professional) ?I know about user permissions, but I want to enter a password every time I want to access (no keys/ certificates).After searching the web, I found Winzip. but there must be a better way.I just want an addtional layer of security in case someone in browsing using my login ID.

The only I am facing is when I am trying to copy a file. I am getting the error 0x80070057(The Parameter is incorrect). I have checked with fiddler and it does not look like its a server side issue. When I open BitLocker management, it only lists partition C and not D.Here is some additional information that might or might not matter: I tried to restore my Windows 7 from an Acronis image and it was unsuccessful. Tried it twice and during booting POST showed two different W7s installed, which was incorrect. When I finally installed Windows 7 from scratch, the extra W7s were still appearing before startup and I had to use EasyBCD to remove them. Now when I am trying to backup partition C, Acronis says that my System Reserved Partition (SRP) is on partition D. My hunch is that Acronis messed up my drive D when I was trying to restore my C partition. Then when I did a fresh Windows 7 install, the SRP incorrectly ended up in D and since SRP cannot be encrypted, that means that my entire drive D can�t be encrypted either. I am dreading about going through formatting my 750GB HD and installing Windows 7 and encrypting it yet again. I read somewhere that you can use software like Acronis Disk Manager to move the SRP to drive C, but I am not sure how this will work because when I open the native winodws Disk Management, I don�t see SRP there.

i just recieved my computer back from service because my hard drive needed to be replaced. i did not notice this until just now, but my system user name was not changed back to the default "user" after they had finished the service.so my question is, how do I change the file name of my Windows 7 user folder? im talking about the one in C/Users. one is called "public" and the other one - which should have a lock next to it, it the one I want to change. I do not want this file to be called "[tech support person's name]" but either "user" or my own name.I have changed one user name via Control Panel/User Accounts/Change your account name, but it did not rename that file.Is it wise to rename this folder, or am I just stuck with a random person's name as the name of my user file?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have Asus N55SF laptop, with Windows 7 SP1 64 bit. Also, I have 2 external hard drives. One with USB 3.0, and one USB 2.0. Following problems, I am going to describe below, happen to the both of them. Just to mention, external drives are tested on desktop computer and following problems do not happen.
Let me now describe what happens when I try certain actions:
- When I try to copy large files (10 or more GB) I get an error that destination is no longer visible. External drives disappear from My Computer and I can't do safe remove. But when I copy files using programs FastCopy or TeraCopy everything copies well and drives do not disappear.
- When I try to do Windows Backup and encrypt them using BitLocker drives also disappear, and are not visible within OS.
There is a difference between external hard with USB 3.0 port and the one with 2.0 port:
- When one with 3.0 disappears after described actions I can't see it from Device Manager, I can see it only after windows reboot. USB 3.0 disk connects to one USB 3.0 port on laptop.
- When one with 2.0 port disappears I can see it from Device Manager, and I only have to unplug it, and plug it in again to see it. USB 2.0 disk connects to 2 USB 2.0 ports on laptop.
Common to both disks is that when then disappear from My computer the diode on the external disk cases are still flashing, what probably means that they have some power. Both disk are formated to NTFS, and Allocation unit size is set to: Default. Their removal policy is set to: Better performance (default). On laptop I only have Windows, Office and Asus drivers. Antivirus is: MSE.
Is it possible with Win7 to change any picture (Jpeg, png, bmp etc) into an icon file to use for a folder image?I just realised that its not an actual folder... its a shortcut which has a folder as an icon, Its actually a shortcut to a folder on another drive, but I'd still like to change it to an image I choose.

How do I set up sharing so I can use my computer and not be told I can not do certain things. I am on a home group what ever that is.
