Desktop Display Not Extending Full Monitor Width/height
Aug 11, 2009
Just updated from Vista 64 to Windows7 64 build7100 .
Using DellWFP 32" monitor and ATI v7200 video card.
My desktop will not extend all the way left to right or top to bottom on my monitor.
It has black bar around desktop extending to edges of monitor.
When I set screen resolution to max 2560x1280 or recommended 1280x800 , then desktop goes full height and width of monitor. However these settings do not work for me at all.
Any other resolution setting and desktop is centered on monitor, very small with black all around it.
Here is image I took with my camera, as a screen shot only displays the desktop. This shows how the desktop is residing within the monitor. I've tried every resolution setting there is for this video card , checked to make sure I had the latest drivers also.
Ever since received my new laptop comes with default Windows 7 Pro 32bit, I realised got this issue been laying in my unit. During initial start-up, the browser will looks normal and fit to screen. However after a while, it shrink to a size which I can't adjust it to the max full height on my screen. The brown area on top is my desktop background and the area coverage from my browser is already max from what you can see. I can't seems to be able to drag it and cover the the brown area to make it fully fit my screen. It doesn't only affect my browser but to the rest of my
confirm that a windows 7 desktop cannot be extended across multiple monitors via a common vga or dvi y splitter. Right now it only clones, and doesn't extend. So is the box of y splitters I have just a pile of junk now?
the display/monitor uses the generic driver for display and it is 1024×768 or 800x600 but it looks very odd it should be bigger because my screen is bigger. I have a acer monitor but is there something I can download to fix the display size?
my laptop has an ati x1600 mobility card and is outputting via hdmi (mini dvi-actually) to an ASUS VH242H (full 1080p) monitor. When I had this connected running xp I had not problem with the screen resolution and size, but now that I'm running windows 7 the 1920x1080 resolution is available, but the picture doesn't fill the whole screen, there is like a 1" black box around the displayed screen.
I believe it has something to do with my display driver, I'm currently using the one provided by windows update.
Is there any way in Windows 7 to force a specific full-screen program (like a game) to open on a secondary monitor? Or does full-screen stuff only work on the primary monitor?
I have a project I'm doing where I have up to 5 monitors. I have a video that I want to play, but I want it to be FULL SCREEN and stretched to every screen. Is there a software that can do this? I know I could just pull the edges of the window to fit, but that will look tacky and is unacceptable.I know there are hardware solutions, but I would prefer software.
win 7 home premium on HP pavilion, i do a start ---> search programs and files and it gives me the resultant file but without its path. sometimes thats a fat lot of use! (i've lost the right-click function so cant do quick lookup for properties) what do i have to do to make the search results display the full path of the file? also, if the result shows more than one file and i click on one of them, the result window vanishes so i have to start the search again to find the next file. how do i make the search window stay put until i tell it to go away?
i have dual monitors on a geforce 9800gtx+ with newest drivers from nvidia, and i have some weirdness when it comes to fullscreen videos, if i am playing a video in wmp or watching a Internet video in fullscreen on either monitor, when i click on the other monitor it come out of full screen on the monitor playing the video.
im running win 7 ultimate x86
any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
I am using Windows 7. I use external monitor connected to my notebook. When ever i connect the laptop to external monitor through VGA cable, It gives display on external monitor but not full screen. I have to reboot everytime to get full screen display which is annoying a lot.
I have trouble with a particular position with the display windows. When I'm putting the mouse over the thumbnail window I see it correctly but the original windows is "transparent" I don't see the information to say that I do not see its contents as I have not clicked on the thumbnail, on other items just drag the pointer over the thumbnail for the full window visible.
I have a hp mini 210 netbook. Im trying to run games like broken sword on it. In my previous windows 7 instalation, i just selected 'maintain aspect ratio' from the display properties, and it gave me a full screen game.
I had a terrible virus, so had to format and install another windows 7.
I noticed the graphics driver is a bit different, and now when i select 'maintain aspect ratio', it makes no diffference whatsoever. how to actually get full screen again?
I got two monitors and marked dual monitor. When I put full screen sometimes that program goes to second monitor sometimes on main monitor. I got windows 7 64bit also. When I put full screen program on second monitor the wallpaper is getting low..I will post screenshots. First one is when I run a game for example and second, normal working

For years now I have been using multiple displays with reasonably little trouble when fullscreening item such as VLC whilst using the secondary display.
I just built a Windows 7 PC and it appears to a problem i've not encountered before.
When I full screen an item in my main display and click on my secondary display the taskbar appears over the full-screened application. (item stays full-screened from top to bottom but taskbar is now present) This never use to happen before on my Vista machine and I assume there is something quite simply i'm missing?
I can sort of alleviate the problem by 'auto-hiding' but this isn't ideal as you can still see the the taskbar slightly which is a distraction when watching video
In Windows Explorer or My Computer, go to Tools | Folder Options. On the View tab, check "Display the full path in the address bar," and click "Apply to all folders." My Apply to all folders is greyed out!!!!Also Open Windows Explorer, Click View, Toolbars -Unlock if necessary, then tic/check the Address Bar Toolbar option, relock Toolbars.
I have 2 displays, 1 is a TV 3 meters away hooked up to my graphics card via HDMI and the other other is obviously my PC monitor. I was hoping there would be a way to have sound exclusively on the TV while I have seperate audio on my monitor?Sorry it's a bit hard to explain. Basically I want to play a game on my PC with my headphones on while a film is playing on the TV, but if I try it atm the game shows on my monitor while the film is playing, but the sound of both is coming out of the TV.Graphics card is a HD6870, using Windows 7 x64.
I just got a new 9800gtx+ . i have a 22" AOC lcd screen. whenever i start my pc , the motherboard screen appears but when the windows loading screen comes my monitor shows the message input not supported I have updated my drivers and checked fastpccheck.weebly.com. but no help. After that screen the user login screen comes to display and then everything is normal. i cant figure out what is making the problem.
I have a ATI Radeon 7500 and i can't let windows 7 Build 7600 find it. It says under display monitor its a Standard VGA graphics adapter. I'm getting really annoyed because i can't play counter-strike...and i installed many different drivers for it but it just doesn't work. and i also wanted the Control Center but idk how as well. I upgraded today to windows 7 from XP...and dumb me didnt backup ANYTHING after a full clean wipe. So im getting really agitated and not patient about it. please help!!
and as well with my monitor display says Generic pnp Monitor and i can't find the drivers for my monitor anywhere! even on the gateway site. I have a 19" Gateway LE HD widescreen.
The only way I could shut acer down was unpluging my computer. The moniter said "no something, I'm sorry but I forget. Is there a way with the keyboard to shut it down? I called my provider and they said it was a moniter or card problem, but it works good since i plugged it back in. I have window 7.
So, I got a Benq G2400WD and a 32 inch LCD TV connected to my computer, to my ati 4890 graphic card, and i wonder if i could set a different font size/dpi on my LCD TV than whats on the Benq?
In Windows CP Display Settings (and in Nvidia CP) my left/main display is 1 and right is 2. In Windows CP Color Management the left is 2 and the right is 1. I would ignore this except that at least a couple applications now open on opposite displays. One is a monitor color calibration program (which also identifies them reversed) and the other a Raw Image Converter. And I don't trust that the calibration program loads the profiles separately. This happened after I reinstalled Nvidia video drivers trying to fix random bsod from firefox and IE8 - which seems to have worked.
I have an external monitor, actually a TV connected via S-Video cable coming out of the back of my video card. My TV is my second desktop. All of that is fine. The problem comes in when I log off or "switch users" (there are no other user profiles on my computer - I only log off or switch user to make sure the kids can't get on without my permission - they don't know my logon code), the TV loses the picture and goes grainy, but when I log back in, the TV does not "kick in" again. The only way to get the TV to display the second desktop after logging out or switching users seems to be to restart the computer entirely. If it reboots, it picks up the TV as second monitor again.
If you simply log in again, it does not pick up the TV as second monitor. Is this related to some setting that says the TV should only be the second monitor on the admin's account and not for "all users" or something? It is annoying to always be restarting my computer to watch a video on my TV. By the way, in all cases, the "Display" settings in control panel show the TV as the second monitor. But looking at the actual TV, all you see is a grainy screen that obviously is not being fed any clear signal.
i have a Sapphire hd 7850 graphics card and two monitors connected to it one hdmi one dvi-d. both screens are showing the same image and when i go into screen resolution it shows only one "generic PnP montitor". this was a fresh install of windows seven and it did work before that. the driver for the graphics card is saying "standard VGA adaptor" is this normal
Can't get monitor to display same resolution between 2 workspaces - Microsoft Community Copy/paste of text in OP (posted Nov 21, 2012): Ok, so here's my setup:HP EliteBook 6930p with ATI Radeon HD 3450 graphics card. Win 7 Pro 32 bit installed.I have 2 workspaces, both with docking stations.Workspace 1 (primary work site) had 24" wide (primary monitor) and 19" wide monitors.Resolutions that Windows let me set were 1920x1080 and 1440x900, respectively. These monitors were also hooked to the docking station via DVI and VGA cables, respectively.Workspace 2 had a 19" standard monitor (1280x1024, VGA, set as primary) and then I would open the laptop beside it for the dual monitor (1280x800).Today I have pulled the 19" wide from workspace 1 to replace the 19" standard at workspace 2. Windows, however, will only let me set the resolution to 1280x720 (still using VGA). Even taking off the "hide modes" option or going into the ATI Catalyst Control center to try and force it does not work. I've also tried switching between which one is primary or even making it single monitor display (on the 19" wide). 1440x900 is simply not available.
