Deleting A Corrupt/unreadable File On A FAT32 Drive
Mar 10, 2012
I've got a corrupt file on my TomTom ONE Third Edition. TomTom support has been unhelpful, and Google has let me down for the last 2 hours. I've tried programs like ChkDsk, Move On Boot, Unlocker, and FileASSASSIN.
I am running Windows 7 Ultimate, and the file that needs to be deleted is ttsystem.
i have this corrupt file on my computer, my OS is windows 7 and no matter what i seem to do the file wont delete. This file is like a ghost, its not on my hardrive and there's nothing in it, its just sitting in my library in my pictures section. The file location is C:UsersStevenPictures, and the file name is 50292_132656813424_564_q. Like i said this file is like invincible to everything i throw at it. Ive tried unlocker and renaming it and also tried using CMD commands to try and delete it but my computer cant find it.
I am a moron and I messed up the disk partitions on my laptop. I was tryin to increase my Cdisk space by allocating the free disk space from my D. I used this software called "partition magic" and just when everything was going smooth..some error occured and the partition did not take place..to make things worse..I can't acces my D, The error message says "D: is not accessible. The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable."No clue what to do..I NEED to recover my data from my D drive..What should I do?
I got pop up in utorrent says a directory is corrupt, I start to run chkdsk on that drive. In this case in have drive letter E. I click on computer, then go to the drive, right click, properties, tools, check now. It says the drive is need to to forced to dismount. I click on ok. then in computers, the drive just show the letter, not size or disk meter. In the open windows on task bar, I did not see scan disk running, or maybe I accidentally closed because I was switching between several programs.
I thought restart pc the drive will show again, but after restart, the drive does not show up, it says 'E: is not accessible, the file or directory is corrupted and unreadable.' I tried to start pc 2 times, still same. I downloaded Partition Wizard Home Edition (minitool partition wizard home edition 5.2) and running it, it showing my files are still in the drive, but not accessible in windows. I also run chkdsk in recovery environment, but still says disk is corrupt, chkdsk cannot continue.
I have a dual boot machine, Windows 7 Pro 64-bit and Kubuntu 9.10. Everybody was getting along just fine.
Today I booted from Windows, no problem; booted Kubuntu, no problem; then later rebooted to Windows. I now get a message that my Program Files (x86) folder is corrupt and unreadable. [While in Kubuntu I did nothing other than look at the list of files using Kubuntu. No file was opened or modified.]
- I tried dropping to a command prompt to run chkdsk (as recommended by the error screen) but cmd is corrupted
- So I booted off the Windows 7 disk and was able to run chkdsk - no problems found (with the /f and later the /r switches)
When Windows 7 opens, all my 32-bit programs are unusable, and I can't explore the Program Files (x86) folder. Properties lists it as 0 bytes. However, when I browse the folder from a Kubuntu boot, everything seems normal and is accessible.
I (gently) used some Kubuntu ntfs tools (such as ntfsfix to flag the volume as dirty so Windows would check/repair the volume on boot) but got nowhere. [I have no idea if this is useful, but I included the ntfsinfo output from both my Program Files and Program Files (x86) folders.]
I'm in desperate need to recover things from my corrupted D drive. When I click on it, it says D: is not accessible. The disk structure is corrupted and unreadable. When I restart it always does chkdsk for that drive, but it can't repair the corrupt master file table, and it's the same result where the drive is unreadable. I used the Getdata recover my files software to recover the drive. It didn't find the things I desperately need, and I noticed a bunch of files it recovered is now corrupt. The most important thing I need to recover is a windows movie maker project that I've spent hours upon hours upon hours on for a music video. I so desperately need that .mswmm file. This software found just about all of my windows movie maker projects except that one, just my luck.
The second most important thing I need is my Adobe Audition session files along with the wav's for the sessions. I have a new computer I should be getting today, and my friend will be over in 2 days. I need to figure something out quickly cause he will need to format the drive which will make it lose everything. He is pretty sure that the drive will be unreadable on his laptop which he's bringing over.It recovered 2 936gb files and a 465 gb file with no file extensions that were labeled $BadClus~$Bad_1 $BadClus~$Bad_3
It's my daughter's computer. A little e-Machine, 250G HD, Windows 7 32-bit on it. Out of nowhere her computer wouldn't boot up. I can get it to try to boot using the Windows disk, it gets so far, and then the repair fails saying:
The file or directory C:/Boot is corrupt and unreadable. Please run chkdsk utility.
I try to re-install. she had backed up everything on my external just days before. It gets near the end, and then the same error comes up. I cannot get into anything else. Nothing else will load. I don't even know how I can run chkdsk. Unfortunately the computer is about three years old and she can't remember the specifics except there is only one HD in it. She had no internet at her place so it's not because she suddenly installed something. She was using it to watch movies and listen to music mostly. I'm at wits' end, can't figure it out.
I am using windows 7 65 bit sp1, I have a number of films on pc of granddaughter and to save putting them onto DVD I have put them onto an external HD which is NTFS, I have tried to link it up to my freesat box which has a usb port, TV hasn't, unfortunately the box wont accept the NTFS sile system, have tried changing to exFAT, again this isn't accepted, tried friends ex HD which is FAT, (FAT32)? and this works, can I change my ex HD to then old FAT system?
"windows 7 setup.exe corrupt file the file or directory is corrupt"I'm trying to install 7 32bit OEM Home Premium with the legit bought holographic CD (not a burned image of any kind) onto a Gateway laptop with a brand new hard drive.I was getting this error installing the OS the regular way booting to the cd and installing from it, so instead I copied the contents of the cd to a freshly quick formatted NTFS partition on the new laptop hard drive, then used bootsect and diskpart to setup the disk. It boots just fine and also gets the same error installing straight from the hard drive.
got my new PC with Win7 64bit.I work from home and have all my work related correspondence on an external drive secured by Truecrypt. I used to back this up nightly with Vista without problem, but now I find that Win 7 won'tlet me.Does anyone know a way around this, or software that will do it
Well tomorrow I am receiving my SSD. And my external hdd is fat 32 and I can't backup some of my stuff because of the file size limit. I believe I need it to be NTFS but how do I change it from fat32 to NTFS?
I have Dell 15r, which runs on win 7 home basic, i recently started using toshiba hard disk,i have some files in the external hard disk when i try to move them or delete them i will get this kind of error message. Error : 0x80070570 The file or Directory is corrupted and unreadable.
recently i've been having a problem when trying to move ISO files from one harddrive to another. I've tried with 3 different ISO files and all come up with the same error:"An unexpected error is keeping you from copying the file. If you continue to receive this error, you can use the error code to search for help with this problem.Error 0x80070570: The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable."First time I got this error i just thought something had gone wrong with the download so i deleted the file and downloaded it again. Same problem. This made me think that maybe it was just that download but now I have tried 2 other files and gotten the same error every time. This only happens with ISO files though as in case it was the harddrive or connection issue I tried transferring some other .avi files and they went across without problem.
Moved doc, docx, xls, xlsx, jpg files from a backup drive to a new computer. Files showed up, and I used them for a few days. As it was a demo computer I changed the owner name via regedit. Then could not locate the files. Have used two undelete programs, these locate the files. When recovered however, although the names show, the contents are unreadable. Went back to the backup drive. Cannot locate the files, even using an undelete program.
We had an external USB drive with tons of media files on it connected to computer A running Windows 7 Pro SP1. The drive was safely removed and connected to another computer that was running Windows XP Pro 2002 SP3. I was told that the drive was not recognized in XP and that it was disconnected (I cannot say for sure "Safely") and returned to the Windows 7 computer. Once the drive came up I get the following:
K: is not accessible. The disk structure is corrupted and unreadable.
I know every drive fails eventually and I'm not sure how old this drive is. Any utilities to use to try and repair the file structure. I have only tried rebooting the Windows 7 computer and that did not change anything.
The hard drive on my netbook is unreadable, so I cannot access the recover partition. I bought a new hard drive. Can I download windows 7 starter from the manufacturer website? My netbook is a dell inspiron mini.
I'm currently helping my uncle with his laptop (Acer Aspire 5742Z) running on Windows 7 with a problem stated at the title. I've tried waiting for it to finish up which took a couple of hours but go a BSOD moments after trying to login through windows so after it restarted I canceled the CHKDSK this time and was able to get through windows but everything was running very slow that I could barely open My Computer.
Up until last friday, my computer worked perfectly fine. Then after i came back from school, i turned on the computer and it went straight to startup repair. I kept receiving messages that said "The file or directory D:Windows is corrupted and unreadable. Please run the chkdsk utility" I let the startup repair work overnight but as i checked today morning, it was STILL going on. I then decided to use the chkdsk /f /r but it did not seem to help. I also tried to install windows again but it kept saying it was corrupted.Currently, i believe that my hard drive is failing(which is sad because i just replaced a failing hard drive about half a year ago that came with this new comp)
My dad was using the computer to watch some videos online when Mozilla Firefox froze. Then I tried to get into the task manager using Ctrl+Alt+Del and that wouldn't work. Tried right clicking the taskbar and going into task manager and that didn't work either. So I just shoved the power button to turn off the computer, and turned it back on. It hung on the "Starting Windows" screen for a while, then it launched into check disk. It scanned for a bit, then said "File record segment 2xxx is unreadable" and it kept going until about 58%, then it just kept giving "File record segment 3xxxx is unreadable" and kept going up until "File record segment 44139 is unreadable". Then it said something about index errors and the computer reboot. Now it says "Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key"
I have WD external HD, but to my surprise this evening I could not open it, it only display this message "The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable".
but my workplace is using Windows 7 and I am discovering some things that are different to XP.When delete a file, windows explorer does not show that the file has been deleted.
When I go to open a file in Windows Media Player (and indeed many other programs), there is a box to put in (or click on) the file name. On the right end of this box is a little down arrow which, when clicked, provides a drop-down list of previously opened files. A picture of what I am talking about is below:is there a way to delete this list? I cannot really find a way to do it in the Options settings for the program. Alternatively, is there a setting somewhere that can be adjusted to not store these settings?
I don't know if this is a define behavior or a known bug, in any case the following are the steps to reproduce it:- Close all foreground applications.- Run Windows Explorer.- Run another applications.- Do the ALT + TAB (or ALT + TAB + SHIFT ) key combinations. A new "window" on the center of your desktop should appear. This window (I don't remember the name) shows all foreground applications actually running. You should see only two applications: Windows Explorer and the other one. Move back on Windows Explorer selecting it.- On Windows Explorer select a file to delete or create an empty one and select it.- Now, click the Canc key button or click on the file and from the popup menu that appears click on Delete menu item.- At this point ,the Windows Explorer Delete Folder dialog should appear, asking you to delete or not the file.- Do not click on the dialog, leave it as it is.- Now, move on to the other foreground application, with the ALT + TAB (or ALT + TAB + Shift) key combinations.
My computer crashed and then crashed again during the restart. Windows tried the start-up repair, did its self diagnosis and said I have a corrupt ntfs.sys file. How do I fix this? I have looked on the Win7 installation disk but did not find any drivers.
For what ever reason, I have a file on my 1TB WDC drive:
D:usersuser_namedocumentsxxxxx.pdf
that upon trying to open it, I receive a message that the file is corrupt.I have looked high and low trying to find a way to DELETE this file, but to no avail. There's lot of references about running CHKDSK to check the drive, running FSUTIL to query the dirty bit (which is set on this drive, because of this file), and using CHKDSK to clear the dirty-bit. And, I tried them all. This, however, is NOT a hard drive issue. The drive is fine. It's the file structure that is in error. I just need a solution that will let me DELETE the file. I don't want recover it.
1. Use Paragon-Software Hard Disk Manager 12 to copy the hard drive to another drive. The second drive is large enough to hold all the data from the larger drive.
2. Check the file on the drive copy... (yep, it's there... yep, it's corrupt... yep, the dirty-bit is on)
3. Create a filter in Paragon-Software HDM12 for that specific file.
4. Run the disk copy again using the filter.
5. Check the file on the drive copy... (this time the file is not there and the dirty bit is not set)
Having done this, I think I'm ready to copy the hard drive back. I just haven't pulled the trigger. I want to recable the drives to use the copy just to make sure I can reach everything. Then, I'll pull the trigger.
I have a brand new computer running Windows Home Premium 7, 64 bit. My mouse will not behave. As an example, when I left click nothing happens and I must right click and then select 'open' or 'open link' from a pull down menu. I think something must be corrupted but I don't know how to fix it.
