How To Transfer OEM Recovery Partition To A New Hard Drive

Sep 12, 2012

I run the system recovery with the build in recovery partition from Sony but the installation cannot be completed due to the hard disk failure. I want to replace with a new hard drive but also want to keep the original recovery partition because there is some useful software that is included. I have a external adapter to connect my hard drive through USB to my computer and have a software to recover the data in the recovery partition.

Hard Drive Inaccessible - File Or Directory Corrupted And Unreadable

May 2, 2011

I got pop up in utorrent says a directory is corrupt, I start to run chkdsk on that drive. In this case in have drive letter E. I click on computer, then go to the drive, right click, properties, tools, check now. It says the drive is need to to forced to dismount. I click on ok. then in computers, the drive just show the letter, not size or disk meter. In the open windows on task bar, I did not see scan disk running, or maybe I accidentally closed because I was switching between several programs.

I thought restart pc the drive will show again, but after restart, the drive does not show up, it says 'E: is not accessible, the file or directory is corrupted and unreadable.' I tried to start pc 2 times, still same. I downloaded Partition Wizard Home Edition (minitool partition wizard home edition 5.2) and running it, it showing my files are still in the drive, but not accessible in windows. I also run chkdsk in recovery environment, but still says disk is corrupt, chkdsk cannot continue.

Hidden Recovery Partition Access

Jul 18, 2011

Got an HP Mini 110 netbook. A person who gave it to me destroyed all the OS system, plus the RAM's were broken. So I replaced them and installed a fresh copy of Windows 7 Starter 32bit. Everything works fine, but as most new laptops this one has a hidden recovery partition. The problem is I want to restore this machine to factory condition, but I cant access it due to the fact that I dont have HP Recovery Manager or something like that. The recovery partition itself is okay as I saw in Admin Tools. When going to System Recovery Options / System Image Recovery, the process cant detect any image - "Windows cant find a system image on this computer".

what could I use to restore it to factory condition? Maybe there is a software that I can install and use in the same way as HP Recovery Manager? Or maybe I can get HP Recovery Manager somewhere. so that you know, I also tried the F6 and itc methods, no luck.

Recovery D Drive/partition 2% Fragmented

Feb 2, 2012

I wish to get to the bottom of. After a system recovery last October on my Hewlett Packard PC due to some software causing blue screens, I have just discovered after defragging my main C drive, I have noticed that the "D" partition which holds all the necessary recovery info is just 2% defragmented. As nothing is written to this part of the disc I wonder how this has happened, unless it has always been like that. Usually when I do a recovery, I immediately turn off the "auto-schedule defrag" program so I can do it whenever I wish. But this time I didn't and obviously the auto-defrag has scanned that part of the drive at one time and reported a 2% fragmentation. It may well have been made like that! Or would it be worth a quick defrag just to get everything in order? The OS is Windows 7, and it is a single 640Gb hard disc.

Windows 7 System Recovery - Hard Drive Failure

Jun 18, 2012

I just turned on my laptop on and it wouldnt go past the "starting windows" logo. So I restarted my computer and it gave me an option to repair start up option and once the repair finished it said it has failed to solve the issue and it pop up a Windows System Recovery which is always good if I wanted to restore it to the factory state unfortunately I have about 30 GB more or less data on this laptop that is basically my life and wanted to retrieve the data.

It also gave me an option for command prompt so i went and run "chkdsk" it got to 49% and from there it kept on listing the entries on the disk and numbers that its got errors on, I didn't quiet finished the disk check and turned my laptop off. Reason being it was 4 AM in the morning. I have been using my laptop for over 2-3 years and by use I mean it has been online almost 80% of the time more or less.

Is it hard drive failure? If so is there a way I could retrieve any data from it? I know there are software that you can boot from CD or USB to salvage what ever data is left or readable, however the data is somewhat precious to me and dont want to do further damage. I would have gone to an professional and gave it to them but I can't afford it. I'm going to change the hard drive into a different laptop to check if its truely an hard drive problem related.

New Hard Drive - Windows 7 Recovery CD Refuses To Work

Mar 29, 2012

I have a HP Pavilion laptop which came with Windows 7 Home Preinstalled. On the back of the laptop is a coa product key. Recently the hard drive failed. I was told that I could easily get a new drive which I have done and I have run the system test and the new drive passes. However although I have a HP system recovery cd, i do not have any installation cd's for windows as HP don't give you any.

I've tried using the recovery cd but as the new hard drive has never had windows 7 on it, it refuses to work.
What do i do now? Why don't HP give away the software with their computers. It seems fairly logical that maybe one day in the future you might need to install a new hard drive. I'm not exactly enthused about paying for the software when I clearly have a legal key on the back of the laptop.

Restoring Windows 7 Recovery Disk To External Hard Drive Or USB?

Jul 11, 2012

I have an Acer Iconia W500 that came preinstalled with Windows 7 32bit Home Premium. I made recovery discs from the tablet before installing Windows 8 on it, which runs great. What I would like to do, if possible, is to use those Windows 7 restore discs and restore them to an external hard drive and be able to boot from it and run the original Windows 7 that came preinstalled. The reason I am wanting to do this, as there were some programs, drivers, and other things that I cannot download from Acer or retrieve from the restore discs, and can only access from the OS if it is actually running.

Lost Drive Letter On Healthy (Active, Recovery Partition)?

Oct 19, 2012

I am running Windows Ultimate 32 bit. I have 2 SATA Hard Drives (one with OS), 2 SATA DVD and Blu-Ray Drives and 1 IDE Hard Drive which is configured as a slave.Second - I needed to do some hard drive trouble shooting for another computer that had a (possibly) dead IDE Hard Drive. To do this I shut down my computer, and attached the (supposedly) dead IDE Hard Drive in its place. Now - all the trouble began. After booting into the Bios, I noticed the supposedly dead hard drive did not register even though it was spinning. I kept booting into the OS to see if it would be recognized in any case - it was not.I put my working IDE Hard Drive back in - after shutting down and removing the dead IDE Hard Drive.I booted back into the BIOS and noticed my good IDE Hard Drive wasn't being recognized either. I then went into advanced Bios settings and walla - it saw my hard drive but said I needed to reboot. After rebooting I noticed the same thing with the Bios, but this time proceeded to boot into the OS.After signing on, I noticed my Good Hard Drive was no longer recognized in Explorer. I went into Administrator and Computer Management and then into Disk Management.

Hard Drive Partition: Adding Free Space Back To C Drive?

Sep 7, 2012

I installed Ubuntu on my computer a few months ago and created another partition for it on my 1TB hard drive. I didn't really care for Ubuntu so I decided to delete the partition it was on. That might have been a mistake. Well, now there's 87.68GB of free space on my hard disk that I can't use and I don't know how to add it back to my c: partition.

There was another post about this a couple years ago, but I don't understand the instructions and am not actually sure if it worked. Can someone explain how to do this, please? I'm not completely computer illiterate, but I'm not familiar with partitioning disks. It was just the one time with Ubuntu.

Windows 7 Backup And Restore From Hard Drive With C And E Partition

Jul 24, 2012

I was wondering if this would work as a poor man's backup system for Windows 7.

1) Take my daughter's laptop with Windows 7 Ultimate on it and partition the only hard disk to have a C: drive (125 Gigs) and E: drive (75 gigs).

2) Setup Windows 7 backup to backup data and disk image of the C: drive TO the E: drive.

Works OK on backup if the hard drive fails, you loose everything C: and E: but if you want a quick fix for virus attacks on the C: drive, or a quick way to restore files to the C: drive.the 64 dollar question... I haven't tested this part yet but can you RESTORE the E: drive image of the C: drive using the SYSTEM REPAIR DISK ?? Would the restoration reformat the entire hard drive, and in effect crash the restore before it starts? Or would it just reformat the C: drive partition??

Cannot See Partition After Fresh Install On Windows 7 On New Hard Drive

In 'My Computer' I can only see one partition which is the C drive but not the other partition. Looking in Disk Management, the other partition seems to be labelled as 'Unallocated'. How can I allocate this into a usable D drive? I would have expected this to happen automatically during the installation process.
