Possible To Take Space From Recovery Partition For C Drive?
Apr 3, 2012It seems almost 85gb of my hard drive space is being used up by recovery and I am starting to need the extra space in my C drive, is this possible?

Moving Unallocated Space PAST Recovery Partition, OR Destroying Recovery All Together?
Dec 25, 2012I have Unallocated space at the very end of my hard drive, even after the 25gb Recovery Partition, this is due to copying my old hard drive onto this new one via Clonezilla, and it automatically keeping the unallocated space at the end. Can I either move the unallocated space around the Recovery Partition, or delete the Recovery Partition altogether? Sorry if I am being a little unclear.

I didn't really care for Ubuntu so I decided to delete the partition it was on. That might have been a mistake. Well, now there's 87.68GB of free space on my hard disk that I can't use and I don't know how to add it back to my c: partition.
There was another post about this a couple years ago, but I don't understand the instructions and am not actually sure if it worked. Can someone explain how to do this, please? I'm not completely computer illiterate, but I'm not familiar with partitioning disks. It was just the one time with Ubuntu.

Aug 14, 2011New to the forums and need some help here as I'm lost. I just got my new laptop and noticed that the C drive (O/S) was getting full and wanted to add more space. I deleted the recovery partition of 25GB so I could extend my C partition.

I also tried using minitool partition wizard which looked to be successful but upon reboot I got an error.

Jan 13, 2013I have tried several times to figure it out and can not. I don't have internet access cause all drivers were lost after doing a complete reinstall of Windows 7. All my drivers are missing or not attached to devices.

Feb 2, 2012I wish to get to the bottom of. After a system recovery last October on my Hewlett Packard PC due to some software causing blue screens, I have just discovered after defragging my main C drive, I have noticed that the "D" partition which holds all the necessary recovery info is just 2% defragmented. As nothing is written to this part of the disc I wonder how this has happened, unless it has always been like that. Usually when I do a recovery, I immediately turn off the "auto-schedule defrag" program so I can do it whenever I wish. But this time I didn't and obviously the auto-defrag has scanned that part of the drive at one time and reported a 2% fragmentation. It may well have been made like that! Or would it be worth a quick defrag just to get everything in order? The OS is Windows 7, and it is a single 640Gb hard disc.

I have 2 SATA Hard Drives (one with OS), 2 SATA DVD and Blu-Ray Drives and 1 IDE Hard Drive which is configured as a slave.Second - I needed to do some hard drive trouble shooting for another computer that had a (possibly) dead IDE Hard Drive. To do this I shut down my computer, and attached the (supposedly) dead IDE Hard Drive in its place.Now - all the trouble began.After booting into the Bios, I noticed the supposedly dead hard drive did not register even though it was spinning. I kept booting into the OS to see if it would be recognized in any case - it was not.I put my working IDE Hard Drive back in - after shutting down and removing the dead IDE Hard Drive.I booted back into the BIOS and noticed my good IDE Hard Drive wasn't being recognized either. I then went into advanced Bios settings and walla - it saw my hard drive but said I needed to reboot.After rebooting I noticed the same thing with the Bios, but this time proceeded to boot into the OS.After signing on, I noticed my Good Hard Drive was no longer recognized in Explorer. I went into Administrator and Computer Management and then into Disk Management.

After done resizing and restart i can't see any D partition. so i was worried that my data will disappeared. i try to look for it but there is no Drive D even on the easeus or diskpart. the only drive appears was C Drive.i remove my Linux Mint and its swap (60gb) and thinking that i could get some more free space and do some cmd prompt windows 7 repair fixmbr thing to remove the grub. then i use partition recovery to transfer those missing data from partition D to C Drive. Jun 23, 2012I've gotten to the point where I need to just reinstall windows completely on my Asus G74SX (too many problems, I want to start fresh.). I encounter an error 1029 with Asus's recovery disks that I made when I had windows working: it says it is recovering all the way to 100% then doesnt work. I am in the process of trying it again so I'll see if it actually managed to wipe my hard drive like it said it was doing, and maybe if it did actually work and reinstall windows.However, I'd like to be able to get into the recovery partition because I would prefer restoring it with Asus as they recommend me to. However, when I hit F9, their target to get there, it doesn't do anything and just reloads the boot screen, with the Asus logo on it. I don't have an actual Wndows recovery CD so that's not an option, and at this point since my hard drive has likely been wiped by these recovery DVDs, I don't think going into Ubuntu and fixing the MBR will do me much good anymore.It may be worth noting that before I last restarted, I marked the Windows partition as active because of a tutorial here, making it so that recovery partition isn't active anymore.

Failed To Create Partition : No Unallocated Space?
Oct 22, 2011Yesterday I tried making partitions in my hard disk, and I failed Here's what I did:
1. run compmgmt.msc
2. Shrink C: drive
3. my hard disk' capacity shrunk from 451GB to 260GB
4. an error window appeared ("I/O device error" I think)
5. it left me no unallocated space to create partition
using compmgmt I can't extend my hdd back to 451GB, so I used MiniTool partition wizard to restore it (btw, shrinking with MT PartitionWiz resulted the same, no unallocated space)

Jun 30, 2011I have 500 GB harddisc on my laptop with three partitions. I wanted to split the 400gb into 300 + 100 GB. So, I went to disc management and shurnk the volume to 300GB. I saw 100GB unallocated space. But, when I try to create a new partition with that unallocate space, I get a message that 'media not writable' and the 100gb remains unallocated. I have used a software called 'MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition'. But, it couldn't apply the changes either.

Aug 12, 2012I have Win7 installed as my OS. In my desktop I have 2 different physical hard-drives. First one is 40 GB which is whole C-Drive without any partitions. Now the other hard-drive is having capacity of 500 GB, which I had divided into 4 partitions namely D, E, F (each 100 GBs) and the last one is G-Drive with 200 GBs capacity. Now, 2 days back I had used Win 7's inbuilt Disk Management tool and had shrunk my D-Drive by 15 GBs. Hence, I had got a new partition with 15 GBs capacity which I named as Z-Drive (just to recognise it very easily).
Today my work was over and I had no need for that Z-Drive anymore so I just explored 'My Computer and formatted Z-Drive using right-click context menu. After formatting Z-Drive I started Disk Management tool. I just right-clicked Z drive and clicked 'delete volume' so that I may get that much space as 'Unallocated' and then I would again extend the D-Drive (or so I thought). But when I deleted my Z-Drive, don't know how but G-Drive also got deleted along with it and now both Z and G drives are shown by green color in Disk Management tool and they are showing their capacity (15 GBs and 200 GBs respectively) as free space!
I have a lot of crucial and important data and files on G-Drive. How this G-Drive got deleted automatically along with Z-Drive?? And I haven't formatted G-Drive, are my files and data still present on G-Drive? After all this I right clicked 200 GBs partition (G-Drive) and selected 'New Simple Volume' and followed the steps accordingly (I had checked 'Do not format partition' while creating 'New Simple Volume on that green colored 200 GBs space) but this tool waits for 3-4 minutes and gives error message as "The operation failed to complete because the Disk Management console is not up-to-date. Refresh the view by using the refresh task. If the problem persists close the Disk Management console, then restart Disk Management or restart the computer".
I had refreshed and restarted the computer several times after that and tried to create that 'New Simple Volume' but every time the same error-message pops up. Is my data still safe on that 200GBs space (as I had checked 'Do not format partition' while creating 'New Simple Volume')? How I can convert that 200 GBs space into G-Drive? I have a lot of important data and files on G-Drive!
