Low Disc Space Partition Color

Sep 5, 2009

I have a quick newby question for Windows 7 RTM (64bit).. it's not a major problem or anything like that but more of an annoyance!

Is there a way in which to stop Windows changing your partition color to red when the drive is low on space?

Missing Partition And Unallocated Space (Can't Create New Partition)?

Jul 1, 2010

I'm using Compaq Presario CQ40-627TUMy Laptop SpecIntel Dual Core Processor T4400 (2.2GHz, 80Mhz FSB,1 MB L2 Cache)- 2048MB 800MHz DDR2 Memory- 320GB 7200rpm Hard Disk Drive- 14.1' TFT WXGA High-Definition widescreen LCD panel with brightviewtechnologynd i'm using windows 7 Ultimate on boot system partition C, dual boot with linux mint. which mean i got four partition. one for linux mint. one for its swap space. one for windows 7. one for my data storage(movies,drivers,mp3,picture and etc).last few days i try to resize my C partition (120gb) to make it smaller to gain some unallocated spaces and resize the D partition because my D (almost 100gb) (ntfs/primary/data storage) almost full. i use easeus partition master v5.01.

After done resizing and restart i can't see any D partition. so i was worried that my data will disappeared. i try to look for it but there is no Drive D even on the easeus or diskpart. the only drive appears was C Drive.i remove my Linux Mint and its swap (60gb) and thinking that i could get some more free space and do some cmd prompt windows 7 repair fixmbr thing to remove the grub. then i use partition recovery to transfer those missing data from partition D to C Drive. (appears as unformatted)i try to use partition wizard home to resize it back to 300gb. and it works. but i cant make a partition. it will disappear just like that.i also try to use diskpart, command prompt diskpard, and paragon. but also not working. the C drive was shrink but theres no unallocated space and no D drive (the new create partition). i try logical partition, primary, ntfs and fat but also not working. even the unallocated space also gone. i use almost 4 3rd party partitioning software but still got no luck with it.example:i divide 300gb into 2 partition which exist the C partition 150Gb but the other one gone. i wish theres other way than format. i also done many time. doing check disk, partition table doctor, searching for bad sector. but no errors with my hdd.

Failed To Create Partition : No Unallocated Space?

Oct 22, 2011

Yesterday I tried making partitions in my hard disk, and I failed Here's what I did:

1. run compmgmt.msc

2. Shrink C: drive

3. my hard disk' capacity shrunk from 451GB to 260GB

4. an error window appeared ("I/O device error" I think)

5. it left me no unallocated space to create partition

using compmgmt I can't extend my hdd back to 451GB, so I used MiniTool partition wizard to restore it (btw, shrinking with MT PartitionWiz resulted the same, no unallocated space)

im having this prob where a total of 40GB of space out of 160Gb in my HD cant be formatted. I were using Windows Vista before upgrading it into Win 7....

I had 3 partitions ( c:, d:, & N... All 3 of it works perfectly. The only problem im facing here is with this 40GB of free space which i couldn't Format in anyway.. it keeps on bugging me with this warning of "not enough space to complete operation" thingy...

Here is an image of it, where the green colored free space (39.06Gb)... cant be formatted.

I tried Formatting it while the Windows 7 installation process, yet, i still couldn't do anything.

But, when I try to create a new partition with that unallocate space, I get a message that 'media not writable' and the 100gb remains unallocated. I have used a software called 'MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition'. But, it couldn't apply the changes either.

how can I create a new partition with my 100gb unallocated space.

How To Reclaim Deleted Partition Space In Windows 7

Aug 12, 2012

I have Win7 installed as my OS. In my desktop I have 2 different physical hard-drives. First one is 40 GB which is whole C-Drive without any partitions. Now the other hard-drive is having capacity of 500 GB, which I had divided into 4 partitions namely D, E, F (each 100 GBs) and the last one is G-Drive with 200 GBs capacity. Now, 2 days back I had used Win 7's inbuilt Disk Management tool and had shrunk my D-Drive by 15 GBs. Hence, I had got a new partition with 15 GBs capacity which I named as Z-Drive (just to recognise it very easily).

Today my work was over and I had no need for that Z-Drive anymore so I just explored 'My Computer and formatted Z-Drive using right-click context menu. After formatting Z-Drive I started Disk Management tool. I just right-clicked Z drive and clicked 'delete volume' so that I may get that much space as 'Unallocated' and then I would again extend the D-Drive (or so I thought). But when I deleted my Z-Drive, don't know how but G-Drive also got deleted along with it and now both Z and G drives are shown by green color in Disk Management tool and they are showing their capacity (15 GBs and 200 GBs respectively) as free space!

I have a lot of crucial and important data and files on G-Drive. How this G-Drive got deleted automatically along with Z-Drive?? And I haven't formatted G-Drive, are my files and data still present on G-Drive? After all this I right clicked 200 GBs partition (G-Drive) and selected 'New Simple Volume' and followed the steps accordingly (I had checked 'Do not format partition' while creating 'New Simple Volume on that green colored 200 GBs space) but this tool waits for 3-4 minutes and gives error message as "The operation failed to complete because the Disk Management console is not up-to-date. Refresh the view by using the refresh task. If the problem persists close the Disk Management console, then restart Disk Management or restart the computer".

I had refreshed and restarted the computer several times after that and tried to create that 'New Simple Volume' but every time the same error-message pops up. Is my data still safe on that 200GBs space (as I had checked 'Do not format partition' while creating 'New Simple Volume')? How I can convert that 200 GBs space into G-Drive? I have a lot of important data and files on G-Drive!

Unable To Create Partition On Unallocated Space

Dec 31, 2012

I bought a 3TB hard drive for my gf and did a fresh install of Windows 7. When I was creating the first partition the Win7 install auto created two more volumes, both labeled as Unalloated. I thought nothing of it as I figured I would be able to merge/create my second partion with the remaining space once Windows was up and running. However, to my dimay I can not create a partition on one of those random Unallocated volumes. I've tried to delete all partition but the one that my OS is running on and I've tried to create two then merger but when I right-click on the second (first one works) volume the option t create a simple volume is greyed out.

How To Extend Partition To Fill Up All Free Space In Windows 7

Mar 12, 2011

My mom got her laptop from Best Buy, and it came with Geek Squad optimization. They made it so the C: drive is around 58GB, and the D: is the other GBs which add up to 500GB. She is practically out of room on her C: and the computer is almost unusable. I already deleted the D: partition, but the partition manager in Windows 7 won't let me extend the partition to fill up all of the space. The option to extend it is just grayed out.

Adding Unallocated Space To Primary Storage Partition

Jan 15, 2013

Previously my machine was dual-booting Windows 7 and Ubuntu. It worked fine with no problems until I decided that I didn't use nor want Ubuntu on my machine. Disk space was getting low for my primary partition and I decided it was time to let Ubuntu go. Anyhow long story short I cleared the two partitions that Ubuntu was using through the 'disk management' tool in windows. I didn't think at the time that GRUB would be stored within these partitions and that lead to the problem of being unable to boot anything.

I made and used a repair disc via another machine and then restored the bootsector code with it. That fixed the problem of being unable to boot. Now my problem is that I'm left with around 3-4 GB of wasted space in a partition. I was wondering if this 3-4 GB could be added to my primary storage partition? I've looked everywhere in the disk manager but I can't find anything there. I'm unsure as to if there is some 3rd party software available that could fix this? That 70GB partition shall remain undisclosed.

Can't Extend Partition C Into Unallocated Space On Separate Internal Disk?

Jan 28, 2013

I read up a bit on this on other threads but none of them are exactly specific to my issue.I need to expand my C partition by utilizing the free unallocated space on disk D (a separate disk) that I just made by deleting the only partition on there.I guess this is not possible through windows disk management tools but I didn't want to start downloading any 3rd party software for this before I got some guidance from here. lease take a look at the following screen and let me know if using the 238.38GB of unused (unallocated space) I can extend the C partition without having to delete that partition, having to backup the files on it or making images. I already backed up everything I had on the D partition and then went ahead and deleted it through the computer management tool.

Partition Missing From Computer - Space Not Noted In Disk Management

Feb 2, 2012

The C drive is my every day stuff, and I use D to store media, music, video etc. Today I wanted to access the D drive and it was not there. The C drive is listed as usual. I went to Disk Management and the missing D drive was not there as well. I don't know if this explains things, but I ran a partition analysis program and it showed 500 gigs as unallocated. But that space is also not noted in disk management. Right now I am running partition recovery software to see if the files are somewhere, but it will take a few hours.

Hard Drive Partition: Adding Free Space Back To C Drive?

Sep 7, 2012

That might have been a mistake. Well, now there's 87.68GB of free space on my hard disk that I can't use and I don't know how to add it back to my c: partition.

There was another post about this a couple years ago, but I don't understand the instructions and am not actually sure if it worked. Can someone explain how to do this, please? I'm not completely computer illiterate, but I'm not familiar with partitioning disks. It was just the one time with Ubuntu.
