I would like to set debugger and remote user groups to be able to not only log off their machine, but also restart and shut down.
How can make these changes without giving those groups access to install software?

Can user profiles be synced between machines within the same homegroup?If not, during the setup of the user, can I copy user preferences/profile settings so when they log in for the first time they don't have to reset everything?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI just built myself a new computer, and it turned out that the dual ram channel on the motherboard was faulty. I ordered a new motherboard and RMA'd the faulty board. When I installed the new motherboard, I received an error when trying to login to my old account: User group client failed the logon. Access denied.I am then returned to the login screen. Rebooting in safe mode didn't caused the system to hang a few times, but eventually brought me to the login screen, and I was able to get to the desktop and create a new user profile, and deleted the password from my old profile. Rebooted again and now I have access to the new admin account, but still get the error when trying to access my old profile. I did some research and people suggested changing the registry value GUID to GUID1 in the Windows NT/Profile List for the bad profile, but there is no "GUID" value under that profile.Windows restore doesn't find any restore points which is strange, because I made several in the week before I installed the replacement board as I messed around with settings and configured the machine.Now, I have full access to my machine through the new profile and everything is working perfectly, but I'd really like to be able to get my old login working again. There's a lot of files scattered around, games with saves tied to that profile, the odd install that I let install without checking "all users" on, etc. I -could- potentially migrate all that *** onto the new profile, but it would take time, time that I'd rather spend either with my son, or being conquered by the Aztecs in Civ 5.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm creating a local group policy to lock down a Windows 7 Pro Workstation for use in the Staff room.It's the first time I've used it, previously I've worked a bit with AD. but I've been following on line tutorials and using google and I'm nearly there with it.But I'm stuck on one thing. My approach has been to remove access to pretty much everything apart from IE, Firefox and Skype icons on the task bar. I've got the start menu empty apart from the shutdown button, which is what I want but at the top of the start menu is the users icon/picture thing and if i click on it it takes me to "user accounts". I can't for the life of me work out how to get rid of the picture or just stop this happening.

I created user ids, but did not log into these idsI used Local Group Policy to edit the policy of one non administrator ids I created. After sysprepping the computer, and successfully copying the profiles, the user is not configured with the group policy settings.Same deal as this guy Sysprep deletes Local Group Policy but his question was never answered.

They still get error messages when trying to install printers/browsers/programs and whe they try to run programs like IIS or device manager. The error says you need administrator rights to install or run the program. I have also disabled UAC to test that out. No luck.
View 5 Replies View RelatedWindows 7 boots to a black screen. Running on a dell e520, I've used the dell diagnostics to scan all the hardware, no issues were found. Computer works more then fine when windows boots. boots into safe mode, and runs when i select the debug option from the safe mode boot menu. also booted once or twice without keyboard connected.
Whats inside the computer besides the processor and a hard drive? zotac 9800 gt : OC to 630mz with rivatuner (stable, machine doesn't boot with OC disabled) crappy sound blaster audigy.
The problem is recent, no hardware changes where made in the last 6 months. (problem never happened in xp)
Any ideas?

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy Skype stopped responding to user actions - it launches but Skype menu items are not reacting to mouse clicks etc, and also Skype menu at the bottom of the window during conversation, when you can click to hung up the call (red button) or call a contact (green button), disappeared, so I am unable to hung up. It gives me Microsoft Visual Studio Debugger Error - JIT debug runtime error.

Earlier today I turned on my Toshiba laptop (Satellite P855-S5200) and got some sort of error screen, and then it brought me to a screen asking if I wanted to do a system repair or start windows normally. I chose system repair, but then it seemed to get stuck in that process (It was taking forever and nothing was happening), so I turned off the laptop (I know, big no no), booted in safe mode, and did a system restore to a restore point from about a week ago. The "starting Windows" screen came and went, no problem. Everything seemed fine till I got to the User Selection screen (the default blue one with the little hummingbird or whatever). Then it just sat there on that screen. I could see the hummingbird and the little squiggly lines, but there were no buttons to click my user. I just let it sit there, and after about 5 minutes, the user names popped up, and I was able to continue using the computer without any problems, no other speed issues whatsoever. It now makes me wait every time, always about 5 minutes, before the user names pop up. It does this when I restart the machine and when I try to switch users.
It is a Pentium Core i7
2.3 Ghz
8 GB RAM
Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit
With the power user group gone in Windows 7, has the standard User now gotten the permissions that the Power User had?

When I connected the pc to the wlan, Windows asked me to type in the Home Group password from a machine called "Uss-Enterprise". The odd thing is that "Uss-Enterprise" was the name of the previous install of Windows on the same PC...So, I'm just curious of why the fresh install of Windows did manage to get network setup information from the previous installalation. I'm shure I deleted and formatted the Windows partition before re-installing Windows, and named the PC something else.

A couple of weeks ago I formatted the laptop and ever since I am able to see and use the networked printers but can't see any computers on the network through the Network section on the Windows 7 pc.I am so blocked out that even my own pc, which does show up in networking, rejects my connection attempts.I can access the internet.I can ping other pcs.I can remote access to other pcs.I only can't access shares and browse other pcs.The other pcs on the network are a combination of WinXp and Win server 2003.I have tried the network sharing and registry edit fixes that are regularly proposed. I have turned off the win firewall and uninstalled Norton.

For example, After exiting Windows Tweaks, my notification icons had all disappeared. When I tried to re-enable them, Windows 7 said my network admin had disabled my ability to make changes to my PC via Group Policies. My PC is in my home, not on a Network and I AM the Admin, yet I am locked out. I have Windows 7 Home Premium so I do not have a 'Group Policy Manager' program. Also, I can not disable the 'Group Policy Client' Servicesa either. I restored back to before I installed Windows Tweak and Windows Tweaks is gone but the policies remain and I am unable to modify anything. Is there a way aroound this without re-installing Windows 7 from scratch?

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have two computers running windows 7. One is a laptop, one is a desktop. Both are connected to the same router. The desktop is direct wired via ethernet, and the laptop is wirelessly connected.I set up a homegroup and successfully connected both computers to the homegroup.If I share one of the "Libraries" folders on either computer, it instantly shows up in the Homegroup folder where shared items should appear. Any other documents or folders that I share from either computer do not appear, no matter what I try.I right click, choose "share with" and then "homegroup read/write". It doesn't appear accessible from the other computer. I choose "specific people" and then add "everyone," "guest" and "homegroup" all with read/write, and it doesn't appear on the other computer.
View 1 Replies View RelatedOn my desktop PC I run Win 7 Premium 64bit and I also have a new Dell XPS 16 with Win 7 64 bit Professional laptop connected to a homegroup with the desktop using wireless wi.fi. It works perfectly. I need to add an HP laptop to the homegroup network with a wireless connection. Connection to the homegroup is fine but the HP, running Vista, cannot connect to the internet. The HP laptop has no need to share files or anything on the homegroup except maybe the printer, once in a while. The homegroup has excellent access to the internet, the HP has access to the homegroup but no access to the internet.IP and DNS servers are set at "Automatically connect.." Router is a Billion 7800N with latest firmware. The desktop is in my home office, the Dell in the family room (about 30' one wall) the HP is in an adjacent bedroom (about 20' with two walls). The dell works superbly in that bedroom. Core two quad 2.8 Ghz (Q6600_ 9600GT GPU I cannot sort this one out.

View 1 Replies View RelatedOur domain controller is a Win Server 2003 R3, and we recently replaced several workstations with newer hardware running Win 7 Pro x64. For the most part, every thing runs smoothly. We have a shared folder on the 2003 machine that everyone uses to store their data. Everyone logs on to the domain, not the local machine. The problem happens when a machine is left on for more than one day. I don't know if it is on a regular interval, but I haven't noticed it as such. Eventually there is an error when trying to connect to the mapped drive: "U:\ is not accessible. An unexpected network error occurred."
When trying to browse the server from the Network in the Start Menu I get this: "Windows cannot access \\servername Check the spelling of the name... Error code 0x80070035 the network path was not found." I get a positive response when I ping the server's name and IP address from the client computer, and vice versa. I checked that the following services were running on both machines: workstation, server, tcp/ip netbios helper, DHCP client, DNS Client. The client computer's Ethernet adapter settings uses the server as the Preferred DNS Server in the IPv4 properties [it is set manually].
I tried ipconfig /flushdns on the client, then ran gpupdate in an administrator cmd window, still got an error. I ran gpresult /h gpreport.html and will attach that file for inspection. There are some errors in the system event log with GroupPolicy as the source and 1030 as the Event ID. Sometimes there is an error in the log with NETLOGON as the source and 5719 as the Event ID. What really makes it aggravating is that it only happens when the client computers are left on for more than a work day. If they are rebooted, it works fine.
Someone out there please help me. I've been working on this problem for like 6 hrs.Failed to connect, "Group Policy Client Service" windows 7. Failed to Connect with "Group Policy Client Service".I copied the message and saved it as an image. I also ran dds and attach report.

In my contacts folder I check the group and they are all there, yet when in the email message, they are not.
