Namely, I wished to know whether one can give the name "Admin" to an account to set with administrator privileges, or is such a name restricted to be used due to any eventual conflicts/confusion it may lead to in the Windows Registry? View 3 Replies View Relatedi am selling a laptop to a co-worker but am having troubles changing the user name. This is windows 7 home premium 64 bit. The folders under "users" are the "public" and the my name. I want to change it from my name to their name but it has a lock symbol on the icon and I cannot figure out how to do it. I was able to go into user accounts and change the name there, no problem. But the "users" folder will not change also.How do I do this? I do not want to do a fresh install or anything - this laptop is only one month old but I ended up not liking it. I already installed Abode professional, Office Professional 2010, and a bunch of other software that the buyer is paying me extra for, so doing a clean install would screw that up for them. Is there any way to change the folder name or are they just stuck with it?

Looking at Internet OptionsBrowsing History On Exit it seems that if you check delete Temporary Files, History and Cookies you now also delete saved user names and passwords. Is the only way to save User Names now to uncheck the Delete Browsing History On Exit and do it manually every time?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI was trying to disable the 'Network Access: Do not allow storage of passwords and credentials for network authentication' since it was enabled which meant I couldn't save passwords. When I right clicked it and opened properties, the options of enabled and disabled were grayed out. Also, there is a padlock on the icon of the Security Settings tab and so does its subtabs. I am on an administrator account but it still doesn't allow me to change the settings.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI just built myself a new computer, and it turned out that the dual ram channel on the motherboard was faulty. I ordered a new motherboard and RMA'd the faulty board. When I installed the new motherboard, I received an error when trying to login to my old account: User group client failed the logon. Access denied.I am then returned to the login screen. Rebooting in safe mode didn't caused the system to hang a few times, but eventually brought me to the login screen, and I was able to get to the desktop and create a new user profile, and deleted the password from my old profile. Rebooted again and now I have access to the new admin account, but still get the error when trying to access my old profile. I did some research and people suggested changing the registry value GUID to GUID1 in the Windows NT/Profile List for the bad profile, but there is no "GUID" value under that profile.Windows restore doesn't find any restore points which is strange, because I made several in the week before I installed the replacement board as I messed around with settings and configured the machine.Now, I have full access to my machine through the new profile and everything is working perfectly, but I'd really like to be able to get my old login working again. There's a lot of files scattered around, games with saves tied to that profile, the odd install that I let install without checking "all users" on, etc. I -could- potentially migrate all that *** onto the new profile, but it would take time, time that I'd rather spend either with my son, or being conquered by the Aztecs in Civ 5.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm creating a local group policy to lock down a Windows 7 Pro Workstation for use in the Staff room.It's the first time I've used it, previously I've worked a bit with AD. but I've been following on line tutorials and using google and I'm nearly there with it.But I'm stuck on one thing. My approach has been to remove access to pretty much everything apart from IE, Firefox and Skype icons on the task bar. I've got the start menu empty apart from the shutdown button, which is what I want but at the top of the start menu is the users icon/picture thing and if i click on it it takes me to "user accounts". I can't for the life of me work out how to get rid of the picture or just stop this happening.

I created user ids, but did not log into these idsI used Local Group Policy to edit the policy of one non administrator ids I created. After sysprepping the computer, and successfully copying the profiles, the user is not configured with the group policy settings.Same deal as this guy Sysprep deletes Local Group Policy but his question was never answered.

They still get error messages when trying to install printers/browsers/programs and whe they try to run programs like IIS or device manager. The error says you need administrator rights to install or run the program. I have also disabled UAC to test that out. No luck.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI attempt to connect to my wireless broadband connection but when i click 'connect' a windows security pop up arrives stating that I need to provide a username and password for 'Network authentication'. I dont have these nor do I believe that I have ever included these perviously. This action has only recently appeared and I cannot 'bypass' it. I have other computers linked to the same wifi connection and these are operating just fine (the problem computer runs Windows 7 and is the only one with Win 7). So at least I know that it is not the internet connection itself.Maybe not of any importance but this problem only occurred after the unit ran out of battery power and has not been able to access my broadband service since the subsequent recharge.I have visited Win 7 Network centre on the computer to attempt to establish the problem (it recognises I have one) and been through all the troubleshooting options but no resolution.

One of my guys is recommending setting up a non-admin user account for the every day use of the laptop so that any undetected Trojans don't have admin rights if they embed themselves. Do you guys think this is even worth it? Or is simply keeping UAC turned ON, will be enough with an admin account?

So, I uninstalled the software as per suggestion.Why MSE was not able to detect this bsod error? Moreover, why mcafee, which itself is a anti-virus software, was causing this issue?

I recently bought a notebook PC, and was quite annoyed to find that Intel has magically removed the ability to change the Centrino N 130 wireless adapter's MAC address.Before the nutters get in here with accusations of "illegal" activity, I feel obligated to point out that there is nothing "illegal" about changing the MAC address on my own property. Briefly, I want to pose my notebook as a hypothetical attacker, trying to bump one of my other wireless devices off the router by assuming its MAC address. I don't really know what would happen if I did this, because, like I said, Intel artificially crippled the Centrino N 130 through its Windows 7 drivers. Rather paternalistic of them.Another benefit of the proposed experiment: showing the futility of MAC filtering in keeping out the "bad guys." I have been convinced of this for some time, but been simultaneously unable to demonstrate it to my own satisfaction. There is no substitute for actually trying something, rather than just reading about it.
I am also a little annoyed at the Centrino N's (lack of) performance. I have yet to have it connect at greater than 72 Mbit/s, even while sitting less than 10 feet from the router with a clear line of sight.FWIW, my router is a NetGear WNR3500v2. N wireless is enabled. As far as I know, this router is capable of supporting a full 300 Mbit or so 802.11n wireless connection, as long as the wireless NIC on the other end is doing its part (which mine doesn't).With all that in mind, can someone suggest an N-capable wireless NIC that is not purposely crippled by its manufacturer? I would prefer an internal mini-PCIe card, but Intel seem to be the only ones making those. Even a G-capable or USB device would probably serve the purpose, if that's all that's available.
When you create a shortcut in Win 7 the name of the shortcut has the word "shortcut" appended to the end of the name.I simply want to change this so the name "shortcut" is in the beginning of the name. (like in earlier versions of Windows i think).I have found instructions online for adjusting the registry to remove the word "shortcut" totally...but i cant see how to just move it to the beginning.

Who know the where the partition names info saved on? in Registry or Disk? for example change the name from "Local Disk" to "My Disk", why sometimes the name cannot be changed in Explorer?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI currently try to sort my lineups (Edit Favorite Lineups). The channel names are displayed but run out to the right (gradient). But if i sort them by name, I am not able to read the names anymore. The gradient will move to the first letter, so that even the first letter is only half displayed.
Does anyone can confirm this or may have a solution?
i'm having a problem not with installing soundpools on my system, but with actually getting all of the samples recognised within the library of magix music maker. i know for a fact that it has something to do with it's inability to pick up on long file names that don't have an underscore for spaces on many of them.i did at one point see a video that explained how to use a program called advanced renamer to actually put the underscore in those filenames, without having to trawl through all of them and manually putting_the_underscores_in_cause_it_would_drive_anybody_barmy (the number of times i just hit the bracket key in that alone was almost enough). so i've tried looking through the forums on the ar website, and i looked for any useful 'how to' vid on Internet, but they're all about just clicking on 'adding styles' which isn't what i'm looking for. so i was wondering (as well as hoping and praying), if anyone with the voice of experience (if not expertise), could actually tell me how to do this with advanced renamer, cause i'm afraid logic isn't exactly my strong point.i get filenames in my sound samples from the soundpool in subfolders which are in turn in folders given a name to indicated their 'style' (rock, chillout etc).the filenames might look something like
grand piano a.ogg
grand piano c.ogg
grand piano f sharp.ogg
but they need to look like
grand_piano_a.ogg
grand_piano_f_sharp.ogg
i am using windows 7, and magix music does work on 7, it just refuses to handle long file names like it should. magix has been asked about this numerous times, and nothing has been forthcoming from them, so i really have come here as a last resort to finding out how to get this sorted out.
