I have just reinstalled my computer, when checking Properties>Security on one of the files on the desktop there are a user/group account I have never seen before. Its called "Interactive".
What kind of account is this?
I'm creating a local group policy to lock down a Windows 7 Pro Workstation for use in the Staff room.It's the first time I've used it, previously I've worked a bit with AD. but I've been following on line tutorials and using google and I'm nearly there with it.But I'm stuck on one thing. My approach has been to remove access to pretty much everything apart from IE, Firefox and Skype icons on the task bar. I've got the start menu empty apart from the shutdown button, which is what I want but at the top of the start menu is the users icon/picture thing and if i click on it it takes me to "user accounts". I can't for the life of me work out how to get rid of the picture or just stop this happening.

This means if an app is installed and tries to take control of an autoplay event, it gets an error code and the setting remains unchanged. If, however, I use the control panel to change a setting then it is allowed and the change goes through.
Is there a permission that can be added or removed from a registry key that controls autoplay settings for my user? (win 7 home premium x64)
i start my pc up (from being off) and get logged into a temp user profile. It tells me that i cannot acess my user profile and all information will be deleted on logging out. I've looked online for a soloution but none work for me ,I really dont know how to resolve this problem,I have limited knowledge and computer skills. i really dont want to scrap this drive and start over.
View 15 Replies View RelatedI am using Windows 7 Pro 64x and apparently the default user account (Owner) that I use is not working correctly. Unless I have UAC set to Never Notify, I cannot open Control Panel or UAC again. I have created a second user account as Administrator and it works correctly.
I would like to know if there is any way to fix this problem short of a clean install of Windows. If not, is it possible to move all of my settings to the user account that works correctly and delete the one that does not.
I'm hoping to teach Mum how to use my PC in the near future and she will only be using it for typing etc and maybe the internet. Also she only use it sometimes. shall I create a Limited User Account for her or turn on the Guest Account?

The machine is running Windows 7 - 64-bit version, and currently has 3 users accounts 2 admin and 1 regular. The regular account has begun to experience log on times that last for minutes (The Welcome splash screen prior to log on screen), while the admin accounts have no problems. I have seen other posts regarding slow log on times, but I haven't seen those which address the issue for a specific user account.

I added a new drive C and installed the OS on C but changed default location of User Folders to D. Now my existing User Folders are in the Users folder on D but there is no User Account associated with them. View 2 Replies View RelatedI just built myself a new computer, and it turned out that the dual ram channel on the motherboard was faulty. I ordered a new motherboard and RMA'd the faulty board. When I installed the new motherboard, I received an error when trying to login to my old account: User group client failed the logon. Access denied.I am then returned to the login screen. Rebooting in safe mode didn't caused the system to hang a few times, but eventually brought me to the login screen, and I was able to get to the desktop and create a new user profile, and deleted the password from my old profile. Rebooted again and now I have access to the new admin account, but still get the error when trying to access my old profile. I did some research and people suggested changing the registry value GUID to GUID1 in the Windows NT/Profile List for the bad profile, but there is no "GUID" value under that profile.Windows restore doesn't find any restore points which is strange, because I made several in the week before I installed the replacement board as I messed around with settings and configured the machine.Now, I have full access to my machine through the new profile and everything is working perfectly, but I'd really like to be able to get my old login working again. There's a lot of files scattered around, games with saves tied to that profile, the odd install that I let install without checking "all users" on, etc. I -could- potentially migrate all that *** onto the new profile, but it would take time, time that I'd rather spend either with my son, or being conquered by the Aztecs in Civ 5.

I created user ids, but did not log into these idsI used Local Group Policy to edit the policy of one non administrator ids I created. After sysprepping the computer, and successfully copying the profiles, the user is not configured with the group policy settings.Same deal as this guy Sysprep deletes Local Group Policy but his question was never answered.

They still get error messages when trying to install printers/browsers/programs and whe they try to run programs like IIS or device manager. The error says you need administrator rights to install or run the program. I have also disabled UAC to test that out. No luck.

When i was logging in my user account i typed my password and the screen just went black and then just brought me back to the start up screen where you pick a user. I share a computer with my sister and she couldn't log in her account either. I'm guessing there was probably some kind of virus or something but i'm not sure. What can i do?

I was making sure Windows was up to date, had to restart, then restarted on its own again(I'm assuming part of the update), and when it booted back up, it said my account has been disabled. Please contact your system administrator. I can sign in under Administrator, or Other User. The password I set up with my account doesn't work for Administrator. Is there a default password?

My account is a full administrative account. I need to create another user account for a family member. I go to the User section of Control Panel and add the new user, give the account a name with NO password and set to standard user. However, whenever I reboot my Windows 7 Home Premium machine, I get a red x with a message that says - "The username and password are incorrect." I can OK and continue to boot to my account. If I "Switch User" I can log in to the new account successfully. However, I continue to get the error message on boot instead of seeing the screen that shows both accounts so you can choose which one you want to log in to.
View 1 Replies View RelatedThis is the tip of a horrible iceberg. Active links in the control panel don't open, as though I don't have permission to access the contents, although UAC doesn't appear. I couldn't install Paint Shop Pro and part of the advice was to create a new account (various reasons, not relevant to this post) but I couldn't. I have full admin rights. Elsewhere, device manager is empty (have posted elsewhere about this) so I can't check device conflicts. I contacted Dell support but had nothing useful back, except the advice that they don't supply W7 repair/reinstall software because it's 'preinstalled and so free' (really? thought I'd bought the whole kit and caboodle), I have to buy a new copy. I don't really want to do a fresh reinstall, although I do feel a bit unarmed without an actual copy of windows to hand

Once I am logged into the guest account I would like to use the same hotkey to switch back to the administrator account which has a password.

Well, that's me! started in safe mode, enabled the administrator account (no password) then tried to login as Administrator....SAME MESSAGE! Rebooted a couple of times, was able to finally login as my user account: GENE (who is an admin as well) Double checked security profile to ensure *something* hadn't set that - nope. I then used the system restore DVD to do a restore anyways...
Things have been fine for about 2 weeks, but then this morning..same thing.
Tried to login as user GENE (an admin account) received the message, your account is locked out and to contact system admin.. After enabling Administrator through safe mode command line, I rebooted into Administrator fine. When I go to the Control Panel, user GENE is not there, however the user profile exists AND the files are there under c:usersgene really really weird
