View 4 Replies View RelatedSo.. I've got a laptop with 1080p screen. And well.. by default, the screen text and everything on the taskbar are very small. So when I installed my Windows, I right away started looking where I could make everything a bit bigger. And I managed to get a result, that satisfied me.But now, a few hours ago, I started messing around with themes. Thought that I'd browse some themes and so on. But.. then I accidentaly overwrited my current theme (which had all the "zoom settings"), and now I've got a problem. Thing is that while I'm surfing the web (with any browser), the menu bar, the address bar, the tab bar, the bookmark toolbar, they're all so small now - I mean the text is so small, and the tab size is much smaller, etc.

I just built myself a new computer, and it turned out that the dual ram channel on the motherboard was faulty. I ordered a new motherboard and RMA'd the faulty board. When I installed the new motherboard, I received an error when trying to login to my old account: User group client failed the logon. Access denied.I am then returned to the login screen. Rebooting in safe mode didn't caused the system to hang a few times, but eventually brought me to the login screen, and I was able to get to the desktop and create a new user profile, and deleted the password from my old profile. Rebooted again and now I have access to the new admin account, but still get the error when trying to access my old profile. I did some research and people suggested changing the registry value GUID to GUID1 in the Windows NT/Profile List for the bad profile, but there is no "GUID" value under that profile.Windows restore doesn't find any restore points which is strange, because I made several in the week before I installed the replacement board as I messed around with settings and configured the machine. Now, I have full access to my machine through the new profile and everything is working perfectly, but I'd really like to be able to get my old login working again. There's a lot of files scattered around, games with saves tied to that profile, the odd install that I let install without checking "all users" on, etc. I -could- potentially migrate all that *** onto the new profile, but it would take time, time that I'd rather spend either with my son, or being conquered by the Aztecs in Civ 5.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm creating a local group policy to lock down a Windows 7 Pro Workstation for use in the Staff room. It's the first time I've used it, previously I've worked a bit with AD. but I've been following on line tutorials and using google and I'm nearly there with it.But I'm stuck on one thing. My approach has been to remove access to pretty much everything apart from IE, Firefox and Skype icons on the task bar. I've got the start menu empty apart from the shutdown button, which is what I want but at the top of the start menu is the users icon/picture thing and if i click on it it takes me to "user accounts". I can't for the life of me work out how to get rid of the picture or just stop this happening.

They still get error messages when trying to install printers/browsers/programs and whe they try to run programs like IIS or device manager. The error says you need administrator rights to install or run the program. I have also disabled UAC to test that out. No luck.
View 5 Replies View RelatedIs there a way to make the folder icons look like the windows XP folder icons, where the folders are flat instead of skewed, and showed 1 to 4 picture thumbnails? Its awfully difficult for someone like me who has a huge amount of categorization to find what he is looking for due to the lack of functionality that the folder thumbnails have in this version of Windows. Yeah, sure they look all pretty, but its difficult to even figure out what the general picture contents of the folder is unless you're already very familiar with it.
View 4 Replies View RelatedHow to make Windows 7 User folder private?
View 1 Replies View RelatedIn Windows XP there was an option where I could make all my user folders and files in my profile private. In Windows 7 I just cant find the setting anywhere. I have two users on my computer. Me (as administrator) and my girlfriend (as standard user)
Whenever she is doing a search or browse the folders on the computer she gets a lot of results and all my documents and pictures is showing up. No restriction at all. She can delete, edit and so on. I can (obviously) do the same to her files and folders. We both have password protected profiles.
When ever I do a search all her files / mail and documents shows up, because the indexing service is generally at one configuration. All users can search/browse all files in every profile on the computer.
In Windows XP that simply did not happen.
Så where is the setting to make my private folders/files private? if there is a simple way. It seems like Microsoft forgot something otherwise.
I'm setting up a new computer with Windows 7 Home Premium as the OS.
My wife uses a QWERTY keyboard but I've shifted to a Dvorak. I've set up Windows 7's language selections so that the Admin and I have the Dvorak keyboard, and my wife has the QWERTY. And that's all working properly.
I've found the Windows options, change user process to shift among the three users and their S/W keyboards. Is there a way to simplify that? Can I place a copy of the two user icons (or any other button) on the task bar (or anywhere else) that would allow a single mouse click to shift between users?
My win 7 laptop seemed to hang at user logon, no mouse or keyboard response. I did forced shutdown. After that Windows detect some problem, want to do the recovery boot.
It goes to the point where I see windows screen, I never see a logon icon. How long should I wait ? I try to boot from CD, the same. it hangs and I never see the user icons.
I try to run the repair option from CD. It hangs at Starting setup.
