i have a collegue at work who is trying to copy some of her folders in her outlook, to a shared area so other members of staff can access them too.
i have not much experience with outlook so i not sure where i would look, i have tried the copy paste but that doesnt work.
I am wondering if we can protect a given folder (sent, inbox,..customized folder) in outlook 2010 to avoid an accidental deleting?

We use individual pst files to file our emails per current job. But the folders above take up a lot of visual space in the toolbaro it would be preffered to hide or delete them.
We do not use either to "file" emails so the compact now option in the data file managment dialog box does not really apply since I believe this is really a benefit when the file is archived.

I've been trying to create a Task in Outlook from a Word Document that I have created on this computer. The idea is that a shortcut to the document is created as an Outlook Task. Click on the shortcut, and voila - there is the document.The "Create Microsoft Office Task" icon DOES send the document to Outlook as a Shortcut in a Task, however, when I open the task, Outlook says:"Outlook blocked access to the following potentially unsafe attachments: Shortcut to 'document name'."It's NOT an unsafe attachment; Outlook WILL OPEN this document if I send it as an email attachment. Outlook will open .docx files types.
I am trying to move one pst file from one laptop which has Outlook 2010 32 bit to another laptop which has Outlook 2010 64 bit installed, steps taken 1) Copied the pst file from the User/AppData/Microsoft/Outlook folder to usb. 2) Pasted the file from usb into User/Documents folder. 3) Tried to open the file in Outlook and I get the error that Outlook encountered errors while opening the file. Now how is that possible when the file is working perfectly in one laptop but when I copy and paste it into another it gets corrupted? Is it due to 32 bit to 64 bit outlook? I tried to repair it using scanpst and it brought back few mails?

I'm trying to retrieve archived emails that i backed up on an external hard drive from a previous computer, the files are .pst which is an outlook format but i keep on getting an error message saying the file is not an Outlook data file (.pst). i dont have any other way to retrieve these emails since they were deleted from the server and its about 1.5 years of work emails. Not sure what to do? should i move the files from the external driver to a different location on the computer and open them, or are they corrupted and need to be fixed?

I should have imported them into Outlook before I made the "Easy File Transfer" to the new Win 7 machine, but didn't know I needed to do that. Several years ago I had imported the files into Outlook, although that data did transfer it is now way out-of-date and full of duplicates.The up-to-date data is still in my old machine and also in an external hard drive backup. I have isolated the Outlook Express personal folders into .dbx format and the addresses into .wab format.Is there a way this can be reformatted into Outlook? Or is there some other way? I would probably also need to delete what is already in Outlook first, or I would have many more duplicates.

View 2 Replies View RelatedThis is a on and off thing, but when we open a document on a users personal drive (which nobody else has access too), it opens as read only and they cant make changes/save the file.Selecting "notify" when the document is ready to be edited doesnt respond.Document has no read-only attribute, nor does the folder level they have full access to it.This particular user is connected via wireless but the issue occurs on desktops aswell.We have tried restarting the computer and ending the process.Also closed the document via server but she still receives read only error.The weird thing is, if the document is closed and opened 2-3 times on the 2nd or 3rd time it will be in editing mode.

I have 'saved' under different file names as instructed, but as a result I now have 10 versions of the document, 9 of which I don't want! For instance, if I click on something on my computer desktop and choose send to "documents," and then click on the documents folder in the tray on the bottom of the screen, I find my saved item there. However, within this documents folder there is a folder called "My Documents" and within this folder there is another folder entitled "Documents." Is there a way to combine all of these documents folders?

The F1 function says the following, but I cannot find the 'library pane', Includes, nor Locations. When you no longer need to monitor a folder in a library, you can remove it. I used the Properties - Location dialog box to do this.The drive these folders was on recently crashed, and was not recoverable. I have a back up of all the files, so no worries there. View 5 Replies View RelatedI noticed I had two copies of the My Documents folder, one in my user folder where I want it, and the other buried deep in my pictures folder (I think I accidentally dragged and dropped it there once when I was trying to change the order of icons in the navigation pane). I deleted the one in my pictures folder, and both folders disappeared! I closed the screen out, re-opened "my computer," and see both My Documents folders back, but empty.
1) How can I recover my files? My last backup was last week, and I've written quite a bit since then. I was actually about to back up again when I saw the annoying second folder and deleted it, not realizing they were linked. The folder was too large and bypassed the recycle bin.
2) How can I fix the two folders issue? I have the same problem with my music folder also, and have had problems with the folders under my username seeming to disappear, reappear, and move for no apparent reason. The computer has Windows 7 Professional.
I have 3 computers. Computer A is a desktop runing Windows 7 Professional. Computer B is a desktop running Windows 7 Home Premium. Computer C is a laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium. FIOS is connected to Computer A. A Network of all 3 computers and a Homegroup have been set up from Computer A.We use Office 2010, mostly Word 2010 for our word processing tasks.I realize that with a Homegroup, you can create a Word 2010 document on Computer A, save it to the default location (Libraries/Documents), then open that document on Computer B, make changes to it, save it to the default location, and then open that same document on Computer A, which will show the saved changes made on Computer B.I would like to know if a Word 2010 document can be created on Computer A, then be saved to a specific folder - not a default saving location - on Computer B, so that the user on Computer B can modify the document, save it to a specific folder - not the default saving location - so that the user on Computer A can open the document from its specific folder and view the saved changes.Would this involve advanced sharing, or permissions, or some type of change on the network?

Everything was working fine yesterday, but when I came back to work today and attempted to open Outlook 2010, I instantly received a message saying: "Outlook failed to launch in safe mode. Do you want to start repair?" If you try to open it again, it opens a second process of OUTLOOK.EXE*32 in the Task Manager. Here is what I've already tried to do while troubleshooting:
- Restarted the computer
- Performed a MS Office Repair, it completed, rebooted (Did this twice)
- Uninstalled MS Office 2010, rebooted, reinstalled it, rebooted, but same problem occurred
- Verified that the other Office programs work (Word, Excel, etc)
- Tried to run "outlook.exe /resetnavpane"
I'm currently stumped at the moment. I cannot even access the profiles through Control Panel > Mail.
Outlook won't send emails. I get "sending reported error (ox8004010f): The operation failed. An object could not be found." I see other has had the same issue

Now that MS has moved on to the 2013 version of the software, it still does not work on 2010. What did people do? Here is the problem have a .pst file from Outlook 2007 on an old computer. I want to use that same .pst file on a new computer running Outlook 2010. I want all my new mail to go to the old .pst file and nowhere else. Now here is what I've tried and what seems to happen:When starting O'2010 it needs your email address. I create that but then it creates a new .pst file named myname@mydomain.com.pstAnd it creates it in C:/Users/myname/AppData/Local/Microsoft/Outlook. If I try to move the new .pst file to the folder entitled C:/Users/myname/Documents/Outlook Files, then when I restart Outlook it recreates the deleted .pst file back in the AppData folder
