My computer all of a sudden isn't displaying the info on drop down boxes, Such as dates for ordering on line for credit card info or sizes, etc. I don't know how to fix this. I can't see the Category choices in the box below this dialog box.I don't have the money to call Microsoft.

Everything ripped fine for a while, the first song of each album kept 'losing' its track information. I would use the Find Album Info feature of WMP to fix this. Track info currently displays perfect in Windows Media Player Library or when browing using Windows Media Center. However, if I view the files in Windows Explorer, or use another program like Winamp to play the files (which i generally prefer), the first track of all my ripped CDs in WAV format has no track information, Unknown Album, title, even tho' it displays fine in WMP Library. I cannot EDIT the track in Windows Explorer, and I can't find a track editor freeware that supports .WAV.

This has been baffling me for at least a month now, my PC will randomly start to slow down after a few hours (2-4) of being used. This began to happen randomly and after no new software or updates where installed.So far I have tried to take off all my overclocks, run a CPU test for 24hours (stable) and all the defrags and disk cleanups that I could be bothered to run. Worst thing is this started happening a day before I was going to make a restore point.All my system info is on my profile.
EDIT: I forgot to mention where the slowdowns occur, they include programs taking a good 5 seconds to open and more confusingly sites take a good 30-40 seconds to load when shortly after boot it takes less than a second.I have checked my network usage and system resource usage and both are within their normal ranges.
Can I drop my old laptop's harddrive into a newer computer somehow and keep all my installed programs?

Diode was shining as in sleep mode. I tried to use second DVI port (with DVI->D-Sub adapter) but no difference and PC wasn't running well(no BIOS beep and PC was stopped i think). I unplugged my Radeon card and connected monitor to integrated card and then it was working perfectly. But... I have DVI and D-Sub integrated, first one doesn't work with adapter, D-Sub works... Weird... I decided to plug again my Radeon and check again, but the same as before. I am confused, don't know now that card is broken or maybe this adapter?

That said, this is a new problem. My second (DVI) monitor is detected by Windows but doesn't display anything. In both the display settings and the NVIDIA control panel, I can see a second (Impression) monitor, but it's blank and I can't get it to show anything. In fact, the monitor doesn't seem to recognize that it's connected, because the orange "power but no input" light is on rather than the green "power and input" light.
This is a Windows 7 64-bit installation on a Dell Dimension E520.
The first one is the BIOS boot up screen that usually leads me to Windows. A few months ago, this vanished. I don't know if it was due to a version of Windows 7 i installed or something but whenever I turned on the PC, the screen would appear blank for a few minutes then go straight to the Windows welcome screen. I thought it was weird, but I didn't see a problem since it went to Windows so I disregarded it, which looking back is kind of dumb but I didn't want to risk doing something to the computer in the process.So a few weeks ago I was trying to partition the hard drive so I can install the Windows 8 preview on it, rebooted the computer and...nothing. It wouldn't take me to Windows to there's clearly a problem with the hard drive. I could always get a new one, but there's still the problem of the vanishing BIOS screen.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI can't open a specific folder to display the content with Explorer.I'm running Windows 7 7601.win7sp1_gdr.120830-0333 Home Premium. The folder is on a secondary HDD where I also have the system folders Libraries and Download. All the system and program files are on my primary SSD C: drive.What doesn't work:With my regular account, on that specific folder, I can't display the content via Explorer. I can't either get it when I try to open it from inside applications such as Notepad++, PotPlayer, Media Player Classic, VirtualDub. What works:If I enter the name of a file in the File name field of the Open command of the application, the file will open normally.When I point to that folder with the Windows command line console, and use the DIR command, it will display the complete list of files.Finally, when I look at the folder from the Admin account or from a Guest account, Explorer will display the content.instantaneously.
Things I did:I have checked Show hidden files in Folder Options.I did a Check Disk, which didn't find any error.I also ran: ATTRIB -s -h mbrp /s /d (Where mbrp contains the directory causing problem) hoping that somehow, some System Attributes could be removed.FWIW, it seems this happened as I was trying to run an Avisynth64 script with new installation of MPC-HC64.A this point, I am out of ideas. Within the last couple days, Media Center/Recorded TV has started displaying a message "WMC could not find any shared libraries on your network or there is no content in those libraries."The directory it uses to record is "C:UsersPublicRecorded TV" and I can see prior recordings and new recordings in this directory. If I go into "Tasks" and select this directory as a library it shows as already selected and tells me no changes will be made to my libraries list on selecting "finish".I can click on one of the recorded program files in file manager and it will launch WMC and play just fine - the recorded programs just don't show up in the WMC/Recorded TV where they should.

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy old monitor has problems turning on, I can leave it on for 30hrs before it decides to display a picture, or I can manipulate it by unplugging the DVI cable from the back, but sometimes even that takes a few tries. It's off warranty and for reference it's a Samsung SyncMaster 226BW.So I bought a new monitor and I have it plugged in using HDMI, but a problem I get is that when both monitors are plugged in the HDMI has no display until it gets to Windows, so I cannot see the boot process of my PC, because my old monitor as explained above has problems turning on. Was a hindrance today when I was tinkering with my SSD and had to go to BIOS, and frankly I'd like to be able to see in case anything goes wrong, like a BSOD or Windows update etc.

View 1 Replies View Relatedmy monitor exhibited signs of flickering during start-up, but only minor ones and would just stop at the 'Welcome' screen of windows so I didn't give it much thought. Iv'e been using it with the cpu the same time I bought the monitor.But after some time, the flickering got worse. It went from 1-2 second interval flickers to a whole 10 seconds of blackness before it showed anything.Now,Iv'e got a new cpu but still using the old monitor. After a day or so, the monitor exhibited the first symptoms of my first cpu, so I just dismissed it. But after a week, It got a hell worse, before I even start-up my computer, the monitor doesn't show Analog/Digital at the top-left corner of the screen. PLUS my cpu keeps restarting after I pushed the ON button after 10 seconds or so. Is the monitor responsible for the restart and what could be the reason for the flickering?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a problem running Patran 2007 in Windows 7, the program seems to run fine, and I am able to open data bases and work on them. The problem comes in when I want to either save the database, open a new database or just open a current database. For each of these functions a new smaller window pops up so I can navigate to the correct file or path to click on it or whatever.
Initially the window opens as I would expect, but as soon as I move the mouse or try to use the keyboard to navigate, the window goes blank and I can do nothing with it. Strangely, using the compatibility setting to open the program in a 640x480 display, they do seem to work fine, but because of the small resolution, I cannot actually see the part of the window where the files are - so that also doesn't help me.
It seems as though there is something between Patran and Windows that one of them don't like, but it baffles me that everything else works fine. If any one else has had the same problem, maybe with a different program even, let me know what you did to resolve it. Otherwise any advise would be useful.
My computer, Gigabyte GA-X48-DS4 MB, worked perfectly in Win XP Pro SR3 32 bit. Computer went to sleep and would awaken immediately when mouse, Logitech LX7 wireless/optical or space bar were hit. I upgraded the OS to Win 7 Pro x64. The upgrade went well other than me having to learn the new system. One major problem is that when the computer is idle and the display turns off I have problems trying to wake the computer. I move the mouse and the display turns on immediately and the mouse will move a short distance and then freeze. The cursor will stay locked for 30 seconds to a minute and I will again be able control the mouse. However if the computer hasn't been used for a number of hours the display awakes and the mouse moves a short distance but I'm never able to regain control of the mouse as it stays locked in place and I have to reboot to use the computer. I have searched these forums and have carefully checked both the BIOS and the Advanced Power Management Setting to make sure that the computer is never allowed to Hibernate and that the HD is not turned off and that every power saving function is disabled - all to no avail.

Also I noticed that when I turned it on the CPU fan would spin for a while then stop spin then spin again. I have tried to unplug the CPU fan and replug it back in and it still happens. Is it because of a faulty Mobo?

I turned off the computer for the night but when i turned it back on, i was getting no image on the monitor. I can hear the PC running but the display is just black; i cant see it post or anything. I tried switching RAMs to isolate the problem but no go.I tried disconnecting the hard drives and booted from a USB stick and still the same.Removed my Graphics Card and it did make difference. The screen went blank instead of freezing up. My onboard GPU is ATI 4250.I took my Mobo to the ASUS service center and the cleared that there's no issues.There are no thermal events as well.
The other day I went to restart my computer, on restart it showed the motherboard info for longer than usual maybe 10-20 secs then proceeded to boot windows. About 2-3 days later I was doing a few things, computer froze so I manually had to shut off and turn back on the computer and it would show the motherboard information and not do anything from there just sit there. Tried to boot again maybe 3 times and nothing changed. Everything powered up fine ect ect. Took the case off looked at a few things, everything looked fine. Turned it back on and it booted right away like normal. Didn't have the keyboard plugged in so I had to restart again and was going to anyways to see what it would do and it booted just fine again.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've got a Dell Insprion 1470 and it never worked right (I would return it for a new one but first Freak Squad has to "fix" it).When booting it will sometimes freeze at the windows logo, just go black, go into start up repair, go into safe mode, all kinds of stuff.I have ran many tests/programs and they all say nothing is wrong.

I've updated BIOS and all drivers, Ive defragged and ran CCleaner.I ran the full system scan in Dell Support Center.
