View 4 RepliesI just bought a new computer with Windows 7 Professional 64 bit . I added 2 hard drives from my old computer to the new one. The old computer was Windows XP 32 bit with a Raid 1 configuration. I just want the added hard drives as storage and non raid. The installation went smoothly but the new computer recognizes the 2 added hard drives as one drive. Also when I boot up, the boot screen from the old computer shows briefly with the intel raid 1 info.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI read the dual boot thread, with two hard drives. Just want to be perfectly safe. My wife doesn't like Win 7, I would like to install the XP drive from the previous computer. Both are sata, I have the XP drive in, but have not used an XP install disk. I don't want to lose data on either drive. My thoughts are to use XP on the new computer, and just copy any data from the Win 7 drive to a thumb drive, then to the XP drive. Eventually, the Win 7 drive could serve as backup, with Win 7 ignored. I do not have a Win 7 install disk.

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy computer, Gigabyte GA-X48-DS4 MB, worked perfectly in Win XP Pro SR3 32 bit. Computer went to sleep and would awaken immediately when mouse, Logitech LX7 wireless/optical or space bar were hit. I upgraded the OS to Win 7 Pro x64. The upgrade went well other than me having to learn the new system. One major problem is that when the computer is idle and the display turns off I have problems trying to wake the computer. I move the mouse and the display turns on immediately and the mouse will move a short distance and then freeze. The cursor will stay locked for 30 seconds to a minute and I will again be able control the mouse. However if the computer hasn't been used for a number of hours the display awakes and the mouse moves a short distance but I'm never able to regain control of the mouse as it stays locked in place and I have to reboot to use the computer. I have searched these forums and have carefully checked both the BIOS and the Advanced Power Management Setting to make sure that the computer is never allowed to Hibernate and that the HD is not turned off and that every power saving function is disabled - all to no avail.

Is it because of a faulty Mobo?

I turned off the computer for the night but when i turned it back on, i was getting no image on the monitor. I can hear the PC running but the display is just black; i cant see it post or anything. Also lately its as if the computer keeps starting up and then restarting; i can hear the fans wind down and then start back upI switched out monitors but that was not the issue. I used a dvi instead of vga connector but still the problem persisted. I also reset the cmos but again to no avail. I'm using IntelHD Graphics 3000[CODE]

ASUS M5A88-V EVO
AMD FX6100
XFX ATI 4670 1GB
8 GB DDR3 (Corsair and Transcend - 4x2) 1333MHZ
2 TB Seagate HDD
500 GB WD HDD
Zebronics 800W power supply
LG D2342P 23" LED Display running on Dual Link DVI
I tried switching RAMs to isolate the problem but no go.I tried disconnecting the hard drives and booted from a USB stick and still the same.Removed my Graphics Card and it did make difference. The screen went blank instead of freezing up. My onboard GPU is ATI 4250.I took my Mobo to the ASUS service center and the cleared that there's no issues. There are no thermal events as well.
My wife recently bought Emachines(Acer)E732zg laptop and since the beginning has problem with display driver. Computer keeps freezing randomly and only way to fix it is to take the battery out for a few seconds because nothing else responds. Driver is for AMD Radeon HD 6370M graphic card and it has been updated. I fixed the problem by rolling the driver back. Now everything works fine but without graphic card which is not the point(can't hook laptop to TV anymore, play games e.t.c.).

My problem is that even though my HDMI cable's plugged into my Radeon graphics card, sometimes the PC only recognizes the Acer monitor and not the receiver (that's connected to the HDMI cable and my HDTV). So I end up having to plug and unplug the HDMI cable several times (sometimes 10+) before it recognizes the HDTV/receiver connection. Is there any setting that would favor the card/PC recognizing the HDMI cable more frequently? I've heard it's a handshake issue, and that maybe using a different type of cable would work. But wondering if there's a setting I could use before switching out cables.

View 3 Replies View RelatedWindows 7 64 turns off the monitor 1 signal after startup. At login, it powers off monitor 1 and powers on monitor 2. Windows 7 behaves as though dual display is working even though monitor 1 does not display. It's the same for single display, the monitor will not work on cable 1 except at startup. Both 'Extend these displays' in Windows Screen Resolution and 'Extend' in the Nvidia Control Panel is selected. And changing which one is primary does not turn on monitor 1. Nor does switching the position of display 1 in either (ex.left/right/top/bottom).GeForce 8400 GS; Dual Monitor Solution 59 pin (DMS-59) to 2 VGA adapter -tried two of these adapter cables.atest Driver: 306.23 - installed a clean reset install of the latest Nvidia driver released last week.Same Resolution: 2 of the 4 monitors I have tried have the exact same 'recommended' resolution (1280X 1024), both 60Hz, and even chose 16 bit color for both instead of 32 to reduce resources.
Linux worked: Dual display worked immediately when I tried it in Ubuntu 10. So, it's not the hardware. It works in Ubuntu 12 too but not properly -it won't transfer windows across displays. My Windows 7 64 is an upgrade from Vista 64. One person in another forum with the same problem resolved theirs by reinstalling Windows 7. But another got the same problem only after a fresh clean install of Windows 7 64 with the same GeForce 8400 GS and DMS-59 when it had previously worked in Vista. Dual Monitors - Only One Works at a Time
Whenever I switch user accounts the computer will start the switch and then lock up with a display message that says no signal on the monitor. It happens if the computer has been running for hours or only a couple of minutes. I have to shut the PC off and leave it off for 20-30 minutes. I can then restart and enter any user account. But if I try to switch user or logoff and pick a different user the whole cycle begins anew.

1. convert a partition to Extended and add logical partitions in it
2. Eliminate the System Reserved partition, mark the C: partition as active, and then run startup repair 3 times to recreate the boot files into the C: drive. Is this an accurate assessment, and if so, what are the tradeoffs of each method?I know that with #2 you would lose use of the system tools that are there, but a Win 7 Repair Disc would work for those purposes when needed.
I would like to add a USB 3.0 pci-e card to my system. There are several to choose from but none that I find have a 'header' to bring the USB to a port on my front panel. Those ports are now fed by the USB 2.0 header on my MB. I would sure be nice if I could have a USB 3.0 on the front.

However, once that is done, I want to connect my old HDD (which was Windows 7 Pro) and get the images and stuff off of it, so I can format it and use strictly for sotrage. Is it going to cause a conflict? Is this even possible? I don't want to keep the OS on the old HDD. I plan on using that on a different computer.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI currently have a licensed Windows 7 x86 version installed on a desktop. I purchased a new SSD that I plan to use for the OS, Office, and some productivity applications. Games and media will remain on my existing 500GB hard drive. The hard drive currently holds my 32-bit installation of Windows 7. I want to install 64-bit Windows 7 on my new SSD and keep the data on my HDD.
Should I unplug my HDD when I install 64-bit Windows 7? If I plug in the HDD after installation will there be a conflict as to which OS should boot? I don't want to dual-boot or go back to x86, so I don't care about the windows installation on the HDD, just the data.
Should I keep my HDD plugged in with the new SSD and then install Windows 7 x64 to the SSD? Will that keep all of my HDD data intact?
