Does anyone know why in my Network screen, my actual machine is noted as a Media Device, whereas the other machines on my network comes under Computer?
The other machines's Workgroup is WORKGROUP, amd the actual machine's workgroup is Unidentified Network.
In the right pane for Network on Windows Explorer there shows Media Devices. How can I get rid of these icons?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to stream music to other computers and media devices on the network. I have 2 x W7 PC and 2 x W7 laptop. Laptops can push music to other PCs and to media player, but PC's won't, although they can receive from laptop. When I select 'Play To' in Media Player, the dialog box does not appear - well is does for a split second then disappears. PCs are 64bit with IE9, laptops 32bit with IE9. All settings checked and the same. Laptops are wireless, PCs on ethernet.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am having difficulties with my networkshare on Homegroup. With cable connected to my router/modem I have a LaCie2Big NAS and a WDTVLive mediaplayer. Since a few days I no longer see the two devices other than as mediaplayer devices. They are no longer displayed as other devices or computers which I can browse using explorer. Probably an easy fix, but I can't figure out what happened. I have tried several reboots, no change. I am using the ethernet cable on my desktop and wifi on my laptop. Both display the devices the same (useless) way.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am having another problem with viewing devices on my network. Everyone is in a work-group, I am able to ping the devices, but I cannot see them in my network. The network discovery is turned on, the password protected sharing is turned off.
I am running windows 7 HP. The pc is connected through an Ethernet cable to a switch as the others are. I have NO anti-virus program on this machine(will get that later).
Any other information, just ask!
Irritating problem: When I fire up my systems, about 30% of the time one or more of the computers or the Network drive will be missing from the list of devices on the LAN and be inaccessable except from some programs. I have to power down all three computers then power them back up to get everything to show up and be accessable.
Configuration: Linksys router, WD Worldbook 1T drive connected via Ethernet, Toshiba laptop connected via wireless, two desktop systems connected via Ethernet. One desktop running Win 7 MSDN distro, other two running RC 7100. Computers use WD network drive for backup and Outlook 2007 mail. Computers and WD have fixed IPs. It appears that the cause was too tight settings on the COMODO firewall running on the desktop and the laptop, and possibly a delay in the wireless connection being established with the router and other systems.
I had restricted "system" and "taskhost" from accessing the Internet. When I changed the settings to allow all input and output from any IP, and delayed looking at the network devices for a minute or so, the problem went away. (So far - fingers crossed it stays away.)
Bottom line - if you're running COMODO, let it make the access decisions initially, then check the Network Security Policy rules after a few days to see if any of the system programs need a more relaxed setting. If you have a wireless system in the mix, it may help to wait a bit, until the router lights stop flashing at least, before checking on the Network.

I have tethered my phone to my computer for Facebook at work, witch is blocked, and the work internet for everything else, how do i route Facebook to go through my phone and other stuff to go through the work net, automatically, without having to connect and disconnect network devices.

For example, clicking on "System and Security" or "Network and Internet" works fine (the main categories) but if I try to click on "un-install a program" or "add a device" for example (the small text sub category links) they don respond with anything.I have tried Google searching for a solution but cant seem to find anything of use.

At first everything seemed perfect but then I started realizing that the master category list is not there. Also, the address book had none of my addresses associated with the entries. Only new ones appeared and then not in their proper categories. What can I do to remedy this situation? I used symbols to create groups: Ⓒ for countries, Ⓟ for people, Ⓧ for companies, etc.After assigning a number of categories to a specific contact, I assume these categories will be displayed there in the same sorting order as the master category list. How to FORCE outlook to obey the sort order of the Master Category List?
in Outlook 2010 I have a large list of contacts all divided into categories with 50+ e-mail addresses each. I normally select the category and create a new e-mail for these contacts, paste a signature of text to the e-mail, copy/paste the subject and mark the e-mail with high importance and confidential. Is it possible to create a new e-mail with the categories/e-mail addresses I want to send to and upload a template to paste the e-mail text, subject, high importance and confidential?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI noticed that my WLM categories were somehow corrupted and missing some names. When I click the category on the left, in the list of names on the right they are all there. However when clicking edit I notice some addresses are missing. They are also missing when attempting to send mail. When I add the missing addresses and click save they are not actually saved. I tried deleting the category and making a new one and that seemed to work for a while but the next time I logged onto WLM the same names were missing again.

In Vista, I just told the indexing service to search only in the start menu folder, and monitored the folder myself (added and removed shortcuts as I wish). It was great, and it replaced Launchy very comfortably. I made shortcuts to folder locations on my computer for very quick access (Start+mus+enter would open my music folder, etc.)
In Windows 7, the shortcuts to folders will fall under the "files" category (instead of the programs category), which takes about 4-5 seconds just to show up, even though my whole index (just the start menu folder) is only 73 items (shortcuts), and pressing enter would open up the 'See more results', instead of the first entry. Basically, the start search looks at program shortcuts first, and considers other shortcuts to be normal files. Is there anyway to make the start search consider all shortcuts like program shortcuts?
BTW, if anyone can tell me why I can't edit my sig with WYSIWYG or with tags (as you could in Vistax64 forums), I'd appreciate it a lot.
In Windows XP I could choose an item from taskbar buttons' list by clicking on the button and after the list appeared by typing its name's starting character/characters. But in Windows 7 the list just disappears after pressing any key on the keyboard! Is there anyway to enable that feature in Windows 7?

My memory is awful, don't ask.Obviously I know I wouldn't be able to access the files unless the devices were connected, but the point is to make their icons show up as if they were connected even though they won't actually be of any use.

We have tried:
-new machine- she needed a laptop anyway.

I've just bought a new computer and put it all together, installed drivers etc but no sound is working.If I go to Control PanelHardware and Sound it says "no audio devices are installed".However, if I go to Device Manager, under "Sound, video and games controllers" there are 4 instances of "NVIDIA High Definition Audio"Now I guess thie Nvidia drivers might work through the HDMI connection on the GPU, but my soiund setup is with the old audio jacks that plug in to the back of the motherboard.I tried uninstalling the nvidia audio drivers in device manager but when I rebooted they just installed themselves automatically!

And I went back through older logs of when the same thing would happen, and those two were the ones that popped up the most. However, this also popped up from time to time:

Now, I know my way around a computer, but this internet talk is pure "gibberish" to me, for lack of a better word.
Additional information: The connection to my router is wired, not wireless. My PS3 and my laptop can stay connected/have never dropped a connection, while my desktop does it enough that it's beginning to bother me.
When streaming Netflix, my computer is registering as a new device each time I play a movie. The Device ID is different when I check on all my registered devices (the only device that uses my account is my one computer). I have not changed any settings, reinstalled Windows, or made any drastic changes in the system. I do not use a router and am using Cox Communications as my ISP.
