View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently did a complete reinstall of Windows 7 64-bit on my desktop computer and now I can't access shared drives on my wife's Windows 7 computer (home ethernet network). I was able to install and use the shared printer attached to her computer. I am able to add her shared drives to my Windows Explorer as mapped network drives, but if I click on one an error box pops up: "J: is not accessible. Access is denied."
Her computer and all of her drives show up in the Network section of Windows Explorer, but if I click on one, I get a Network Error popup saying "Windows cannot access \Wife-pcc. You do not have permission to access \Wife-pcc. Contact your network administrator to request access." I am able to control her desktop and transfer files using UltraVNC...that's actually the only way I can transfer files at the moment.
If, from her computer, I right-click her C: drive, select Properties -> Sharing, it shows the drive is shared. If I click the Advanced Sharing button, and then click the Permissions button, under "Group or user names" it shows "Everyone", and shows the permissions as Full Control, Change, and Read. What else do I need to do so that I can access her drives as Mapped Network Drives? I was able to do so prior to reinstalling Windows 7 on my computer, and nothing has changed on her computer.
Would like to know what the proper way to go about formating hard drive and reinstalling windows 7 all I have is the repair disk, data back up disk & the Image disk i got the dell laptop from bestbuy and geeksquad did the set up well actually 3 weeks ago my motherboard and processor took a crap and it was replaced but i dont have a windows disk and actually had to get a program to track down the cd key but i dont have any dell software installed in here and its missing to many system files to run down. so i fifgured i would just "start over".

So can I take the windows off my old laptop and put it on the computer?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently tried to install windows 8 on my windows 7 PC and the installation froze at 80%. Upon restart my computer could no longer boot into windows and therefore i had no choice but to wipe it. I ordered a windows 8 backup dvd and booting from this can get me no further then the windows logo and "juggling balls" loading screen before the screen goes black (backlight still on) the Toshiba recovery doesn't work either, asking me what language I want to proceed in and then also black screening me. How can i install windows and get it running again?
P.S. when i turn it on with no disk in it says "please insert bootable media" etc.
I've decided that I would like to reinstall Windows 7 on my computer. I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop, and I am currently running Windows Home Premium, 64 bit, which came with the computer, already installed when I bought it.However, since my computer came with Windows already installed, it did not come with an Windows 7 installation disk. Is there any way around this? Can I download an .iso for the CD somewhere or something?

View 1 Replies View RelatedSuch as a mouse, a mobile, or an external drive.I mean make them visible (in My Computer) even though they're not connected so it's easier to remember what devices I use. My memory is awful, don't ask.Obviously I know I wouldn't be able to access the files unless the devices were connected, but the point is to make their icons show up as if they were connected even though they won't actually be of any use.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI purchased a retail copy of Windows 7 Upgrade and installed it about a year ago. It detected my Vista installation but I reformatted and did a clean install. It activated no problem.I now want to wipe my Hard drive and start fresh...but I have an important question. Will my upgrade license key allow me to reinstall Windows 7 without putting Vista back on the computer first? I want to do a clean install. I understand that Upgrade keys need to "see" a previous Windows version in the setup program before you re-format the drive. But, this is the second install of Win7; wouldn't the setup detect that I have an installed copy of Windows 7 before I format?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI got some bad malware and removed it with a complete re-install of windows 7. I deleted all partitions and re-installed Windows 7 from that point. I went to the Gateway website and got all of the drivers for the equipment on the computer and it still runs painfully slow. I've run CCcleaner several times, done DSKCHK (because I suspected my hard drive might be faulty) and everything says I have no problems.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've just bought a new computer and put it all together, installed drivers etc but no sound is working. If I go to Control PanelHardware and Sound it says "no audio devices are installed".However, if I go to Device Manager, under "Sound, video and games controllers" there are 4 instances of "NVIDIA High Definition Audio"Now I guess thie Nvidia drivers might work through the HDMI connection on the GPU, but my soiund setup is with the old audio jacks that plug in to the back of the motherboard.I tried uninstalling the nvidia audio drivers in device manager but when I rebooted they just installed themselves automatically!
View 4 Replies View RelatedSo I went to my event viewer, and this is what it says whenever it's happened the last couple of times:
Name resolution for the name dns.msftncsi.com timed out after none of the configured DNS servers responded.
The client was unable to validate the following as active DNS server(s) that can service this client. The server(s) may be temporarily unavailable, or may be incorrectly configured. 68.94.156.1
And I went back through older logs of when the same thing would happen, and those two were the ones that popped up the most. However, this also popped up from time to time:
Name resolution for the name www.microsoft.com timed out after none of the configured DNS servers responded.
Name resolution for the name www.australian-charts.com timed out after none of the configured DNS servers responded.
Now, I know my way around a computer, but this internet talk is pure "gibberish" to me, for lack of a better word.
Additional information: The connection to my router is wired, not wireless. My PS3 and my laptop can stay connected/have never dropped a connection, while my desktop does it enough that it's beginning to bother me.
When streaming Netflix, my computer is registering as a new device each time I play a movie. The Device ID is different when I check on all my registered devices (the only device that uses my account is my one computer). I have not changed any settings, reinstalled Windows, or made any drastic changes in the system. I do not use a router and am using Cox Communications as my ISP.
