View 2 RepliesDoes anyone know why in my Network screen, my actual machine is noted as a Media Device, whereas the other machines on my network comes under Computer?
The other machines's Workgroup is WORKGROUP, amd the actual machine's workgroup is Unidentified Network.
I'm trying to stream music to other computers and media devices on the network. I have 2 x W7 PC and 2 x W7 laptop. Laptops can push music to other PCs and to media player, but PC's won't, although they can receive from laptop. When I select 'Play To' in Media Player, the dialog box does not appear - well is does for a split second then disappears. PCs are 64bit with IE9, laptops 32bit with IE9. All settings checked and the same. Laptops are wireless, PCs on ethernet.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a linksys usb600n (v2) using the Windows 7 driver from linksys. It installs and is displayed correctly in Device Manger - BUT it doesn't appear in the Network and Sharing Center as an adapter. This same device and driver were previously working just fine in this system - but I rebuilt the OS (clean install) after testing a number of security products out.
The initial install went fine - no problems that I remember - just plug in the adapter and install the drivers obtained from Linksys (Ver 3.00.01.0). I tried the same thing on the re-build and it looks fine until I go into the Network Center and can't set up wireless networking since the adapter does not appear.
SIW shows TWO (2) linksys USB adapters under Hardware/Network Adapters, but does not show the network adapters in the Network Information section.
Any ideas?
I have searched google for ours trying to find a fix for this but to no avail.CD drive and virtual drives dont appear in my computer and whenever i put in a dvd nothing comes up.it appears in device manager and disc management however so i know there is nothing physically wrong with the optical drive. Under disc manager i can see the details about the dvd such as dvd name, size etc.i tried changing drive letter and path but unfortunately that doesnt fix it. the letter "applies" for a second then disappears again.

This isn't a big deal (since I connect to the Internet) but I was wondering why the cross is there? Is there a way I could get it off?
P.S. - I've attached a screen-shot of the network and sharing center in case my explanation was a bit confusing
Basically my ethernet capability flew out the window ranomly the other day. Wireless works perfectly however.. before ...the other day.... it has been working solidly for almost a year Im plugged into a router which is running off my cable modem, both sitting less than a foot away from me. Also hooked up to the router is another computer, and my xbox the xbox works but the other computer cant seem to get a local connection either.
at first i assumed they were having an ip conflict of some sort, but why now after all this time?
I have tried:
- ipconfig /release - /renew
- abolishing bonjour
- taking the other pc completely off the router/network
- updating drivers.....rolling back the updates
- different cables different ports
-plugging directly into the modem
- and asking nicely
im on my laptop, Dell studio also the first time i noticed this happen was directly after having powered down the modem and router.
below is the ipconfig

I have USB 3.0 slots in my Dell Laptop. My desktop has a couple of these, too, but also a number that are USB 2.0. The Hauppauge HD-DVR and Media Center remote which work fine when used with USB 2.0 slots don't work in USB 3.0 slots.

Since a few days I no longer see the two devices other than as mediaplayer devices. They are no longer displayed as other devices or computers which I can browse using explorer. Probably an easy fix, but I can't figure out what happened. I have tried several reboots, no change. I am using the ethernet cable on my desktop and wifi on my laptop. Both display the devices the same (useless) way.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am having another problem with viewing devices on my network. Everyone is in a work-group, I am able to ping the devices, but I cannot see them in my network. The network discovery is turned on, the password protected sharing is turned off.
I am running windows 7 HP. The pc is connected through an Ethernet cable to a switch as the others are. I have NO anti-virus program on this machine(will get that later).
Any other information, just ask!
Irritating problem: When I fire up my systems, about 30% of the time one or more of the computers or the Network drive will be missing from the list of devices on the LAN and be inaccessable except from some programs. I have to power down all three computers then power them back up to get everything to show up and be accessable.
Configuration: Linksys router, WD Worldbook 1T drive connected via Ethernet, Toshiba laptop connected via wireless, two desktop systems connected via Ethernet. One desktop running Win 7 MSDN distro, other two running RC 7100. Computers use WD network drive for backup and Outlook 2007 mail. Computers and WD have fixed IPs. It appears that the cause was too tight settings on the COMODO firewall running on the desktop and the laptop, and possibly a delay in the wireless connection being established with the router and other systems.
I had restricted "system" and "taskhost" from accessing the Internet. When I changed the settings to allow all input and output from any IP, and delayed looking at the network devices for a minute or so, the problem went away. (So far - fingers crossed it stays away.)
Bottom line - if you're running COMODO, let it make the access decisions initially, then check the Network Security Policy rules after a few days to see if any of the system programs need a more relaxed setting. If you have a wireless system in the mix, it may help to wait a bit, until the router lights stop flashing at least, before checking on the Network.
I am looking for software the routes different websites to different network devices. I have tethered my phone to my computer for Facebook at work, witch is blocked, and the work internet for everything else, how do i route Facebook to go through my phone and other stuff to go through the work net, automatically, without having to connect and disconnect network devices.

The name does not resolve.2. Flushed DNS and restarting DNS server. Flushing DNS works on one client, to allow browsing by the name & restarting DNS works on the other. However neither works after a restart.3. Only my Wifi clients are experiencing this issue. I am wondering if I am missing something here, I have to my knowledge turned off all media streaming capability but yet when I am listening to tunes in the office I have noticed that there is an icon for my office pc's media player on the network. I have turned off the functionality in advanced sharing and it is not turned on in wmp. Is this just the way it is now? Seems like this should be able to be overridden, virtually every guest in my house has access to my htpc and I don't necessarily want them to have access to my office pc's media.

I have two pc's- one a Windows 7 the other is a xp. I have two streamers: Boxee Box and Pop Corn Hour. Through various trial/error I have determined I can't access the workgroup from both the Windows 7 and xp on either streamer. In other words, both streamers should be able to access workgroup on my network and neither can. I have tried resetting the router, both pc's, streamers etc. All files/folders set to share. I am not an expert but it seems since both streamers can't access my workgroup, the problem might be with windows.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have been messing with my daughter's computer (Sony Vaio VGN-CS320J with Windows 7 professional) for days now and cannot connect to the wireless network that our other two laptops running Vista work fine on. This all started when my router went wonky and I had to go buy another power adapter for it. For some reason (I realize this is illogical.) I've been unable to get her back to our wireless network since then. Things I've tried:
1. Unplugged, reset both router and modem probably 50 times.
2. Connected her laptop directly to the router and confirmed the router settings that way.
3. Uninstalled wireless adapter (Intel Wi-Fi link 5100 AGN) and let startup re-install (numerous times)
4. Downloaded and installed latest drivers for said adapter
5. Copied my network settings from working laptop to the one that won't connect.
6. Deleted the network and recreated it (numerous times)
7. Tried to ping router unsuccessfully. (general failure)
8. System restore to a few different dates when said laptop WAS connecting.
9. Reset all the router settings via 192.168.1.1 (New name, SSID, key, etc.)Then created new network on non-connecting laptop with new settings.
I can see the wireless network, that's not the issue. However, I can't connect to it. I ran ipconfig/all and the adapter is listed as "media not connected". I'm using WPA2-personal for security if that matters. The only other think I can think of that it may be would be her antivirus software causing an issue. But then again, she had the same software installed and running a week ago and it wasn't an issue.
I have a Network Media Tank A-110 Media Player (NMT) which I love, but I have never been able to browse my WORKGROUP through my homeplug home network. Instead I have had to use iHome server installed on my PC (connected to a homeplug) and a standard UPnP server on my NAS (also connected to a homeplug) in order for my NMT to see my media files. My NMT is connected to a Netgear gigabyte ethernet switch (as is my blu ray, AV AMP, TV) which itself is plugged into a 200gb Homeplug. However today I decided to plug my PC directly into the gigabyte ethernet switch using a 10m cat5 cable, and lo & behold - my NMT can now browse my entire network!Of course I wanted to check that it wasn't a fluke so I unplugged it and plugged my pc back into the homeplug, and the NMT cannot now see the WORKGROUP to browse at all.It seems that, somehow, the homeplugs are stopping my NMT from browsing the network.
