I downloaded the latest Windows update just a bit ago. When the comp rebooted I had an Adobe Flash update (which I installed). Rebooted, then opened Word to print out a document and it couldn't locate any printers. Tried to "Add printer" and got the error "The Active Directory Domain Services is currently unavailable."Perplexed, I decided to check my printers in Devices and Printers--and it is no longer there! Not that I click on Devices and Printers and it is black--the Devices and Printers option is no longer there when I click on the Start menu.

I got my laptop last week and and yesterday the sound stopped working. The laptop is a ASUS G53SX: i7-2670QM 2,2 ghz. 8 GB RAM. GTX 560M.
I have tried to update/re-install the drivers without any luck. I have also tried system recovery and still no sound. The latest software that I have installed is Adobe Production premium 5.5 and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.
I have checked the playback settings and the only device showing is Sony-tv 1. I also checked for deactivated and disconnected devices but still only Sony-tv.

Just got windows 7 32-bit. I'm stuck on is that no devices are being shown in the Safely Remove Hardware Dialogue box. I know I have a device in..it's my MP3 player which I have just copied songs over too and I can play them. There is no icon in the systems tray either. I then looked around the web and found a page showing how to create a shortcut on the desktop to activate the dialogue box.
Point target to ":C:WindowsSystem32
undll32.exe shell32.dll, Control_RunDLL hotplug.dll"
Created it, got the box up but no devices showing in it when the mp3 player was plugged in. Pulled out the mp3 player without removing safely first as didn't know how....not ideal.

I have a Del 1600N Multi function printer that has been in use (successfully) for about two years on my home network. The printer has a built in NIC and is connected via a dedicated 10BaseT line to my network. This printer was working just FINE until I decided to use it as a fax. Some how during that process I must have cleared the network configuration and it stopped being visible on my network. After some investigation into this I was able to get it back on the network my manually assigning it an IP address. Using the supplied installation DVD, I was able to install the printer onto my two desktop computers (running XP Pro 32 bit) and it works just as well as before.
The problem occurs with my wife's Dell laptop. Before the great "fax fiasco" (as I like to call my stupid attempt to use this printer as a fax machine), the laptop was able to find and print to this printer with very little problems. Now, not so much! When I went to re-install this printer the first time I made sure that the Dell Printer software was uninstalled (via Control Panel--Uninstall Programs). The first attempt seemed to be going fine. The software detected the printer on the network and it looked like a successful install. However, the test page did not print out! I checked in the "Printer Properties" to make sure that the printer was on line and sure enough, it was.
But there was a troubleshooting alert that told me the document didn't print. After several hours of messing with it, I decided to uninstall and try again. The second time went much like the first. Then I reasoned that the drivers may be the problem. So I looked on Dell's web site and found the Windows 7 drivers for this printer. I uninstalled the old drivers, downloaded the new ones and then installed. As before it found the printer. But during the install it flashed a message saying that it could not find a file (which was weird).
When I hit "continue" it proceeds and looks like it finishes. The network printer monitoring icon appears in the system tray and I can see the 'scanner" portion of this Multifunction Printer. But still, it won't print to it. And in addition, the printer now refuses to show up in the "Printer and Devices Window"! What am I doing wrong? I've heard that Windows 7 has problems with old printers. But this printer was working perfectly before this! What steps do I need to do to totally remove the old printer drivers and start from scratch? Is there a way to get this printer to be able to work with my wife's Dell Laptop?

I disabled my network adapter then restarted and now the adapter is no longer showing up in my network connections. How in the world do I get it back? I have looked at other options (like under the registry which was suggested on a couple of places). I have never seen this happen before. I even reinstalled my drivers and still nothing. How do I enable it again?

I am having another problem with viewing devices on my network. Everyone is in a work-group, I am able to ping the devices, but I cannot see them in my network. The network discovery is turned on, the password protected sharing is turned off.
I am running windows 7 HP. The pc is connected through an Ethernet cable to a switch as the others are. I have NO anti-virus program on this machine(will get that later).
Any other information, just ask!

Irritating problem: When I fire up my systems, about 30% of the time one or more of the computers or the Network drive will be missing from the list of devices on the LAN and be inaccessable except from some programs. I have to power down all three computers then power them back up to get everything to show up and be accessable.
Configuration: Linksys router, WD Worldbook 1T drive connected via Ethernet, Toshiba laptop connected via wireless, two desktop systems connected via Ethernet. One desktop running Win 7 MSDN distro, other two running RC 7100. Computers use WD network drive for backup and Outlook 2007 mail. Computers and WD have fixed IPs. It appears that the cause was too tight settings on the COMODO firewall running on the desktop and the laptop, and possibly a delay in the wireless connection being established with the router and other systems.
I had restricted "system" and "taskhost" from accessing the Internet. When I changed the settings to allow all input and output from any IP, and delayed looking at the network devices for a minute or so, the problem went away. (So far - fingers crossed it stays away.)
Bottom line - if you're running COMODO, let it make the access decisions initially, then check the Network Security Policy rules after a few days to see if any of the system programs need a more relaxed setting. If you have a wireless system in the mix, it may help to wait a bit, until the router lights stop flashing at least, before checking on the Network.

Windows 7 64 Bit, does not detect ANY network adapters. I also tried installing an add on LAN card and that card is not detected either. Laptops can push music to other PCs and to media player, but PC's won't, although they can receive from laptop. When I select 'Play To' in Media Player, the dialog box does not appear - well is does for a split second then disappears. PCs are 64bit with IE9, laptops 32bit with IE9. All settings checked and the same. Laptops are wireless, PCs on ethernet.

I have a network setup with in our home, and am able to connect to it through windows 7 but after a bit of time all the other computers disappear off of the network. I have lowered the encryption and allowed windows to actively look for networks which it does well but it will only do this for a short period of time. Does anyone know how I can fix this problem? Like I said the network will appear and I do have access to it on occasion but then disappears and will not return.

For some reason my netgear router is not showing on the network page of 'my computer'.it used to show up as 'Netgear Router' and if i clicked on it it would ask for my login and then display my configuration setting etc on a browser page. If I click on a link I have setup on my browser, it navigates there as normal. Not a humungous issue, but although I have tried a system restore, it still does not show up as expected. Connectivity is fine, as per normal.

Windows Server 2008 R2Windows 7 32 BitI have a Windows 7 Enterprise box that when started will only create 2 of 3 mapped network drives. This does not happen every time either, just about 2-3 days of the 5 day work week. 2 of the drives are mapped via a script, while the 1 drive that is the problem child is set through the Properties-->Profile-->Home Folder of the user on our AD box. We have set the drop down letter to H and verified the path. It is correct, as it works some days.

I live in a student shared house which has a WiFi network set up. It has come to my attention that my network has recently gained a gateway between the router and the internet which is visible through the windows network map, myself and my housemates all connect to the internet through the router but it appears that this gateway is linked to one of my housemates, right-clicking the gateway brings a drop down menu with his computer name in the list.Since this gateway between the router and the internet connection has appeared there has been a noticeable performance loss to the network, being the only gamer in the house this has affected me the most in games having higher pings and dropouts all the time, although i understand that is also normal with using WiFi it has not been that much of a problem until now.I would like to ask how and why he is able to create gateway between the router and internet connection and how to stop it, i would like to also point out that the individual love his torrents and has possibly found a way around the bandwidth limiter in the router, he has currently denied any foul play but has tried other things in the past.

i just got a new router, my brother helped me set it up this router creates 2 wifi network, one named A, the other one named B.A is faster than B (i don't know why) on my ipad or phone or any mobile devices, i see both networks but on my windows 7 PC, i only see B (the slower one)so where is A? i need this faster one, why does it show up on mobile devices but not on my Windows 7 PC?when he set up the router, he said to me that the website (routerlogin.net - where you can set up your router, put password, etc) says "A is available for Mac and B is available for Windows PC". is this the reason?but what about mobile devices, they can connect to both networks?

Every time I boot into Windows 7, it tries to connect to 2 network connections.
1. JohnResidence (which is a Home network)
2. Unidentified Network (which is a Public network)
There is no way for me to delete the Unidentified network, as it doesn't show up in the list when i select 'merge or delete'. However, when I disable my network adaptor, and RE-enable it, the unidentified network connection disappears, and it connects successfully to the JohnResidence connection.
This is becoming a nuisance, because EVERY single time I login to windows I need to go through the same process and have no idea how to get rid of it.
Any ideas?
