I recently got an Asus G74 (great for gaming, by the way) after my old laptop died.the only thing I don't like is how my fingerprints show up on the matte (ruberized plastic) finish on some of the computer. how to legitamately clean it? And is it safe to lightly wipe it down with water? Or how about windex?

View 1 Replies View RelatedRight, i'll try to explain it not to detailed; -Was multitasking between online videos and facebook, when suddenly one of those 'Do you trust 'such and such'' windows came up (with the dimed background). -I cannot remember what it said but it wouldnt let me press 'No'. -So I had to trust it (but I would have pressed 'Yes' anyway). -So when it went away, displayed on my screen was a new window, and again I didn't really look at it, but I defintely remember that it was an error window. Again I pressed yes, and this was because I didn't understand a word of it.This is where my problem comes in; -After pressing 'yes' the computer restarts and comes up with a 'System Repair' screen, tells me that its looking for the problem. -When finished it says 'Unable to repair' or something along those lines, and then followed by 'remove all external hardware (mp3s, controllers etc) and try again' -I do this, doesnt work same screen. -And now i'm stuck. EDIT: Its the 'Startup Repair' option/window in the 'System Recovery Options' window.

I am currently running RC7100 no problems yet... since May, So i started installing this newest build on my spare HDD (drive F) I was looking to try out the latest as a dual boot situation (at least that was my original plan) So I set Off- and it looked suspiciously like it was erasing my drive C plus it hung up on install(or I got Paranoid and canceled the install) either way after the cancellation it rolled back to previous state(no files were harmed...)but now on my boot screen it offers me windows set-up and below that in the list windows 7 Ultimate(recovered) it never did that before when I select Set Up it goes into the 7 set up screen (light blue with plants) and restarts continually never finishes ... that is the first thing, Secondly when I select windows 7 ult.

How do i remove the option for "Set Up" under the boot screen and also change the windows 7 Recovered back to normal, I tried restoring to a previous State using System restore and selected a point 3 days prior to yesterday but on start up it does the same thing The set up is first on the boot list How can I get my system back to normal I cant do a fresh install I have to much valuable stuff that i cant risk losing I tried restore and it apparently didnt help, what else can I do...Will a repair install help and if so Will it erase any programs and personal Data such as Itunes Libraries and photos and misc.. programs and will it dump the other set up on the boot screen?

[code] I have built many many computers in the past.I have only had one that gave me trouble as there was a pinning that was hidden. Since then I have built at least 8 with out trouble.So I went about collecting parts and building.I go to turn it on and only a flash of light at all of the lights. Then shuts down and nothing.I wait a few minutes and try again.i get the same result a flash of the fan lights then nothing so I am at a loss as to what is wrong.I changed cases, and I chaanged power supplies at different intervals. Nothing. i changed the case to a different one. and still no change.I have not changed the RAM. Nor the CPU. But I did try a different Mother board with the same cpu and ram. Still not change.I am to presume that I have a bad cpu and or ram, or these items do not like each other.

Windows 7 detected all of the new hardware and is running beautifully, but I just want to clean up remnants of old drivers for peace of mind. I already enabled Device Manager to show hidden devices and deleted the unused ones. The boot log, however, still shows a handful of unloaded drivers. I listed a few below.The NVIDIA GeForce GTX 275, for example, is no longer present. It doesn't appear in Device Manager, so where else might it be referenced?

My laptop is about 2 years old and none of the files have been managed, just appended or overwritten. My question is how important is it now that my system has been cleaned and I don't seem to be having issues, should I delete these files and start with a...'clean' slate. state? whatever.

The install worked fine, I'm able to boot up and use all my programs again no prob, but when I attempt to go into Safe Mode, it thinks Windows hasn't completed the install. While the message "Setup is starting services" is on the screen, a popup appears saying "Windows cannot complete installation in Safe Mode. To continue installing Windows, restart the computer"I'm thinking there's got to be a simple registry key fix for this but am having a bear of a time finding anything applicable online.I don't have an urgent need to use Safe Mode, btw, just doesn't seem right not having it available should I need to

View 1 Replies View RelatedI got a second-hand PC with windows 7. I deleted the previous owner's accounts and created new ones called Owner (regular) and Owner-admin (admin access). Since then everything is messed up..The previous owner account still had files in /users/[account name]/ after I deleted the account. I deleted those and they were mostly gone, but some are protected or are recreated on reboot. Even though I always log in as Owner, downloaded files often en up in the previous owner's "My documents/downloads". When I try to copy them into my new "My documents/downloads", I don't have write permission. I can't write into my own user account directories...? I thought I'd recreate the previous owner's account and try to undo it from the inside out, but ended up with a Owner.Carl-VAIO.Carl-VAIO' as well as aOwner.Carl-VAIO' account. I tried to install Thunderbird, but it is so confused about what is what that it won't install. I can't blame it.
After it was already too late I discovered that my computer thinks it is part of a workgroup. I tried to reset this (it's a standalone), but I couldn't - the button remained greyed out no matter what. i want to clean up my pc, specifically, reduce my CPU and RAM usage. After some research on fixing my lag issues, i came to the conclusion that i need more personalized help. As I understand it if I clean the TC, each time I open a folder it will need to rebuild the thumbnails. I believe this slows things down. Is there a benefit to not cleaning or does the cache keep growing and using up more space?
There is a temp folder in c:users****appdatalocal and it is full of stuff. How does this not get cleaned up when I empty firefox/IE cache?

Two laptops of mine have been broken for a time now, and I decided it was time to fix them, but sadly I couldn't. First Laptop Won't boot in safe mode or in regular. BSOD, but auto reboots, can't read fast enough. When installing Windows 7, it hangs at the "Setup is starting" When attempting to "Repair your Computer" from the CD, nothing will show up. Second Laptop Won't boot gives the "NTLDR" is missing. When booting from Windows 7 CD, Gives "Bootmgr is missing" Edit: Second Laptop now booted from Windows 7 CD without issue now. Currently installing Windows 7. If there's any issues, I'll report it.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have two laptops. 30 minutes ago, both of connected just fine. Then I uninstalled two programs called ezvid and Sendori. On both computers. Now one of them cannot open up any web pages, but the other one is completely fine. Google Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer. None of them work. I've tried the system restore twice, but both times it said that it was unable to restore.
I've also spoken to a Comcast representative and done the CMD ipconfig/release and renew. I've tried it on Safe Mode. I've tried turning off my fire wall. I've even connected the computer to the router with a wire.
I don't know what this means but it popped up after everthing went wrong: "Error loading peer to peer connection. Listening port is blocked and returned port zero, please check you firewall settings and you networks adapters. Downloads and fill lenght videos cannot be watched without the peer to peer library!"
i have a HP laptop and it came with a windows 7 orginal DVD and key. my Question is im thinking of buying a new dell laptop which also comes with installed windows 7 but i wont get a free copy of windows 7 DVD. so should i burn my existing HP's win7 dvd to a blank disc and use that dvd to install windows if needed in my new laptop.. ofcourse ill use different keys cuz keys are always underneath the laptop.
so in short, if i do that i will be able to run geniune windows on both my laptops? use same win 7 dvd but using HP key in HP laptop and dell key in dell laptop?
