Opening A Specific Port
Oct 1, 2009Through my uni halls, the internet provider provides their own tv service (basically identicle to freeview in the UK for chanel choice) this is iptv.
Now with Windows 7 I can't seem to play it, there trouble shooting doesn't include Windows 7 yet but both for xp and vista it talks about opening port 1234.
How do I do this?
I found a guide on here telling how to access ports but I didn't know where to go after that for a specific.
Any other ideas to try and make it work, if this one doesn't? It worked last year on xp 64bit.
Finding Spyware On A Specific Port Or At All?
Mar 25, 2012So I was trying to load up the Tribes: Ascend beta client, and it refused to load. Looking to the diagnostic tool that comes with the download, it gives me this:"The system is unable to connect to the update server [URL] due to a likely spyware/malware infection on port 6522" EDIT: Didn't want for it to actually post a link, because it makes my post look sketchy. So I added in the [dot]s. It doesn't work going straight to it anyhow.So I naturally go, "Say what?" and immediately run MalwareBytes. Didn't find a thing. I download a little utility I found called TCPView and can't even locate the port (6522) as being active. "Hmm," I say. So I netstat. -ab. -naob. Still don't see the port. To hell with it. I am going to ask the port if it's talking to anyone. I make a .bat file with this inside:

@exit
I see the port. I see it is receiving packets, doing port things, but I have no idea what is going to or from it. Now I am questioning whether I am infected, or if this beta client is just screwing up and thinking a process is hostile when it isn't. But I would really like to find out in case, you know, it's actually something malicious.I am currently running AVG as kind of a last-ditch, but it's almost finished and I don't expect it to find anything, especially after MalwareBytes didn't. I have only seen one other person online say they had the same problem, and someone on Yahoo answers told them to go for the old run Rkill, then run MalwareBytes, but seeing as I'm neither getting the signs associated with the Rkill/eXplorer.exe processes, and there are about ten utilities each designed for a specific variant, I am not so keen on trying every single one out when that doesn't seem to be the problem.
Option To Choose Audio Device For Specific Program?
Feb 19, 2012I'm going to preface this with the fact I have a USB headset, is a logitech G35). The way it works is this. I'm playing SWTOR lately, it doesn't have an audio option to choose the audio device. When I played LOTRO, what I would often do is set it to play the audio through the speakers when I was on skype (or vent) so I didn't have to wear my headphones, as it tends to hurt after too long. I put the audio through the speakers (which I can do with skype) and just set them down on the desk to use the mic that way.
However, because SWTOR doesn't have an option to change the device that the audio plays through it automatically goes through the headphones. Now normally it wouldn't be a big problem because I'd just change the program to use the speakers but I can't in this case, so I was wondering if there is a hardware or software way to override that. because they are a USB set, you can't even just not plug in the speaker plug. I just have standard onboard sound, its just saying "HD Audio", its from a Gigabyte P55M-UD2 motherboard.
Usb Device And Com Port Location?
Oct 15, 2012i am connecting a samsung galaxy S phone to a desktop with windows 7. when it appears on the "my computer" window, it shows up as a drive.....which is fine but i need to know if it would also be considered a com port (i.e. com 1, 2,3, ect). if so, how do i find out whether it is on a com port or not? i assuming that it does consume a com port but i don't see it in "device manager" or anywhere else. the program i'm trying to work with looks for com ports, so for me to continue, i'm trying to make the phone appear on a com port.

Apr 29, 2011This all started when one day my G930 Logitech headset started becoming a pain in the ass to use. I had the charging dock plugged into one of the two USB ports behind my HP ZR30w monitor.Then after a few days I began to get a USB Device Not Recognized Error constantly. Like you hear the Windows Pinging sound when you connect and disconnect a USB device all the time. Its like spamming me with the sound. I tracked it down to this USB port, Port_#0001.Hub_#0011 (which is the USB port behind my monitor HP ZR30w, it is the inner most USB on the back.I ran virus scans, spyware scans and nothing shows up, I had to rule out any fishy stuff. I have no idea how to get this error to stop showing up...it literally spams me with the error and sound when nothing is plugged in to that port...as I am typing this its yelling at me.The catch is though, this is when the USB port is empty...nothing is plugged into it...it is like a phantom USB port that is just going haywire...Now if I plug a device in to it...the device works fine and the USB Device error does not show up, but for instance in this case, my G930 headset ends up disconnecting and reconnecting and throwing me errors...Is this a bad USB port? I am running Windows 7 64bit. I tried disabling the USB port all together but it still shows that a device is attempting to connect to that port and is not being recognized.Also I have updated all my drivers, updated my motherboard, the only thing i have not done is reinstall USB controllers but i do not know how to do that. In the process of finding the problematic USB port I ended up mapping all the USB ports and their numbers so how I found out which USB port it was, was due to trial and error and finding it was the one behind my monitor.

Jan 16, 2012I've been having some trouble with error code 109 on my PC. I have a dump file but I'm a noob at this and I don't know how to upload it. The specs are below: --- ASUS P8Z68-V LX motherboard Intel� Core� i5-2500K Processor (4x 3.30GHz/6MB L3 Cache) 8 GB [4 GB X2] DDR3-1600 corsair ram NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 Ti - 2GB - Single Card 120 GB ADATA S510 SSD (for boot) 1 TB HARD DRIVE -- 32M Cache, 7200 RPM, 6.0Gb/s - Dual 1TB Drives (1TB Capacity) - RAID 1 Data Security Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium Realtek Sound card ---- I literally got this computer up and running two days ago. Everything was running fine until I tried putting games on it. First I started blue-screening during games, then eventually during web browsing, watching movies or idling. I then did a system restore back to before I installed any games and there were no blue screens. I tried installing a different game and the computer blue screened again with the 109 error code.
I've read that this problem could be due to faulty memory, so I ran Windows Memory Diagnostic with no errors. I am hesitant to run memtest because I really doubt it is a memory issue, since I bought this computer from ibuypower and they test these sorts of things before shipping it out.
My first guess is that this is a registry problem or a compatibility issue with Win 7 64-bit and these games (Bioshock 2 and Fallout 3) but I'm not certain. I've also read about issues with Realtek audio drivers and DirectX. I've seen others have problems with their HDD in RAID. I've just run a registry cleaner and hope this will solve some problems, but it is too early to tell yet.

Using An Old HDD From Laptop And Brand New SSD With New Windows 7 OEM
Jun 24, 2012I am working on putting together my first build.My question is specific to Windows. On the old HDD, which came from a dell laptop, already has windows installed on it. I know it will not work once it recognizes all of the hardware changes. I bought an OEM Windows 7 and a SSD. My plan is to install the OS onto the SSD as a boot drive.
- Will having the old OS on the HDD interfere with the new OS installation?
- OEM Windows 7 will tie itself to the new motherboard(so I have read). Does this mean that exact motherboard, if the motherboard fries, and I get a duplicate replacement(under warranty), will it recognize this and force me to repurchase the os? Same with the SSD, can I reinstall Windows onto it, if it gives out and is replaced(by warranty)?

RC Keys 3 Computer Limit ?
May 15, 2009I got a stupid email from MS -- How's the RC going.
In it it says something about you can install on 3 separate computers.
Well I'm still using the BETA keys and haven't come up against any 3 Computer limit or activation problems with THOSE keys - and I've tested Windows 7 on SCORES of different hardware configurations.
Has anybody actually had a problem with the RC keys or is the email from MS totally BS.

I wouldn't mind but this consumes quite alot of bandwidth. Are there any ways to limit my sharing to just my mum? Or to kick and/or ban my sister's computer from my homegroup?

Aug 18, 2011Over the past couple of weeks, I have purchased three different computers. Two from HP and one from Dell. All three computers have the same freezing issue, even if there are no programs running. The only programs that have been installed are Quicken 2010, Turbotax 2010, and Microsoft Office 2007. The only other change made was uninstalling Norton AV and installing eset.The computer freezes up and the only way to get it working again is to hit ctrl alt delete to bring up the task manager. If I bring it up, everything starts working again for a short time. All three computers freeze often even when they have just booted up. All of the computers have been plugged into a power strip which is shared by a bunch of devices, so it's possbile that it could be a power issue, or maybe it's a compatibility issue between Windows 7 and one of the aforementioned programs.
