View 1 RepliesWith my recent purchase of my new Windows 7 computer I added a fluorescent light above my workstation. Its around 21" long and mounted about 3 feet above my monitor and PC. Sometimes when I first turn on the light I hear the "bong-bong" sound of the device disconnect sound from the PC. This does not happen every time but I would say about 60% of the time it happens. I do not see any indication than something actually "unmounted" but this does have me stumped. I know a fluorescent light does put out a frequency but I have not heard of anything like this. I have stopped using the light for not until I can figure out if it is actually interfering with anything.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a PC I assembled last June. After I loaded it up with my applications and connected my devices I began getting device disconnect sounds as well as a few device connect sounds. I've been troubleshooting by disconnecting all devices then adding devices back one at a time to try to find the culprit. I'm not getting consistent or convincing results so far, but will keep working on that approach.
A Web search on the subject returns lots of results where users are experiencing these sounds. Answers are sparse. And antagonizing! I have not found any hints as to how to extract from the system what is actually happening. What I am looking for is if anybody knows where in the system I can find a log that records device connect/disconnect events associated with these sounds.

When I disable the network controller in Device Manager, the controller is disabled but nothing changes in Device Manager to identify the device as being disabled. When I used to do the same thing in Windows XP, the device icon turned yellow. Is there some setting to identify disabled devices in Win 7's Device Manager?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm on the verge of re-installing Windows. It started earlier today, I'd just installed Call of Duty: World at War off Steam, tried to launch it and it kept crashing. Tried a few things, but nothing worked and read it might be a sound driver issue. Tried updating my ASUS Xonar DX drivers to the latest version, but once the PC had restarted I had no sound and a the speaker on the taskbar said there's no output device installed.
Uninstalled these drivers and tried installing the ones I was using and same problem. I opened up playback devices and the default speakers were my monitor as I connect via HDMI from my graphic card to my main monitor. The "set default" option was greyed out and I couldn't change the default speakers unless I disabled the HDMI audio, but still I had no sound. Tried uninstalling the graphic drivers and re-installing the drivers first, but still nothing. Even when the only audio device was the sound card, there was no sound.
If I troubleshoot, it says the audio device is disabled, even though it isn't. I've checked all the audio services and they're all running. I even tried enabling my onboard audio again, but I still get the same problem of the audio device apparently being disabled. I ran an sfc /scannow, and that fixed a few things, but still no audio. Only thing I can think of doing now is just re-installing Windows.
well a while back my system (specs below) had a windows update when I went to bed, upon my return my PC booted up with no sound avaliable. i.e. in my task tray the speaker has a red X and displays "No Speakers or Headphones are plugged in" - they are definately plugged in. I did try to use a restore point straight away and it failed telling me the restore point was corrupted (or somthing to that effect). [code] If i try to get it solved by scanning it tells me that my Audio device is disabled, whether I tell it to test the rear/front panel/or USB.I have searched far and wide to get this issue resolved and I've seen that there is a lot of info on this, but my issue seems to be slightly different and nothing ive tried works. If i Look under playback devices nothing is missing (Ive enabled "Show hidden"), and if i switch where my speakers are plugged in the window recognises that and displays which it is plugged into.In Device manager there are no errors displayed, and I have tried uninstalling/updating/and disableing then re-enabling all different sound devices. Thinking that my sound on the motherboard may have died (SounMax) I added the USB sound device to test. This device installed fine and shows it is avaliable but it will still not give any sound. The speaker icon in the task tray still tells me that no spekers etc. are plugged in and if prompted it will say "audio device is disabled".

View 10 Replies View Relatedi am connecting a samsung galaxy S phone to a desktop with windows 7. when it appears on the "my computer" window, it shows up as a drive.....which is fine but i need to know if it would also be considered a com port (i.e. com 1, 2,3, ect). if so, how do i find out whether it is on a com port or not? i assuming that it does consume a com port but i don't see it in "device manager" or anywhere else. the program i'm trying to work with looks for com ports, so for me to continue, i'm trying to make the phone appear on a com port.
View 3 Replies View RelatedThis all started when one day my G930 Logitech headset started becoming a pain in the ass to use. I had the charging dock plugged into one of the two USB ports behind my HP ZR30w monitor. Then after a few days I began to get a USB Device Not Recognized Error constantly. Like you hear the Windows Pinging sound when you connect and disconnect a USB device all the time. Its like spamming me with the sound. I tracked it down to this USB port, Port_#0001.Hub_#0011 (which is the USB port behind my monitor HP ZR30w, it is the inner most USB on the back.I ran virus scans, spyware scans and nothing shows up, I had to rule out any fishy stuff. I have no idea how to get this error to stop showing up...it literally spams me with the error and sound when nothing is plugged in to that port...as I am typing this its yelling at me.The catch is though, this is when the USB port is empty...nothing is plugged into it...it is like a phantom USB port that is just going haywire...Now if I plug a device in to it...the device works fine and the USB Device error does not show up, but for instance in this case, my G930 headset ends up disconnecting and reconnecting and throwing me errors...Is this a bad USB port? I am running Windows 7 64bit. I tried disabling the USB port all together but it still shows that a device is attempting to connect to that port and is not being recognized. Also I have updated all my drivers, updated my motherboard, the only thing i have not done is reinstall USB controllers but i do not know how to do that. In the process of finding the problematic USB port I ended up mapping all the USB ports and their numbers so how I found out which USB port it was, was due to trial and error and finding it was the one behind my monitor.

I also try the MS register fix My internal SATA device appears in Devices and Printers and in the - Microsoft Answers
1- Since the sata port is not Intel , would the register location be the same for the proposed solution above to work?
2- I tried channels 0..5 , should I try any other number? The solution says that the channel in device manager it is not always the correct one. Under device manager , general tab it displays "Location 0 (Channel 1, Target 0, Lun 0)"

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy lapotop is HP Pavilion 9750 running Windows 7 Enterprise (with the latest updates). When I'm inserting the HDMI cable to view my screen on the TV it automatically shows the video, but I have to manually change the default playback from "Speakers" (Realtek High Definition Audio) to "Realtek Digital Output" (Realtek High Definition Audio) so I could hear the audio from my TV and not from the computer.
Is there a way to make that switch automatically when I connect/disconnect the HDMI cable?

Since doing a clean install of Windows 7 my internet keeps timing out. The icon in the task bar shows that it's normal, but I'll be online and after a couple minutes the internet just stops. When I click on the icon it says "connected" and "internet access."I have tried on both a Netgear and Apple router, so it's not a router issue. I reset the modem and routers a dozen times. I called my ISP and they said everything looks normal. My Droid phone works fine and so does a Macbook in the house.I have rolled back my Atheros5007 wireless card driver, which did nothing. And then tried upgrading the latest version, which did nothing. Uninstalled the driver then reinstalled, still with no luck.I was running Windows 7 fine all year and did the clean install as something I do every year to keep my computer running well.
View 9 Replies View RelatedWhy is it that so many Western Digital products suck at what they do? Every time I tried using a storage device by WD it's been acting up. One time a drive wasn't even being detected by a computer (or other computers I've tried it on) and now this new 1 TB external drive is not wanting to disconnect safely from my laptop. I did a ton of searching online and apparently, despite it not actually saving anything it's still running processes as if the person who made it assumed you don't ever want to disconnect it from your computer (which is stupid for the fact one shuts off his computer eventually at one poine) and instead want to constantly back up weekly. I made one backup and that's all I want to do at the moment. I also want to shut off my computer, but if I do that while I still get the error message "can't disconnect external drive since it's still in use", wouldn't shutting the computer down then be equivalent to unplugging the drive before it's "safe" to remove? I literally waited a full day to get my 350 GB info on this drive, and I don't want it to get corrupted through unplugging or even shutting down the computer when the drive is "still in use".By the way, it says it's "in use" but I am NOT seeing it download or backup anything (because I already finished this hours ago). Could it be that it's saving something that I'm not aware of? Or is it simply "connected" to my computer and that is one of WD's definitions of "currently in use"? If the latter is true, I guess logging off/shutting down won't do anything then, but I'd still like to be sure.

On most computers, doing this will allow you to output the display to another monitor.
When I did it on my laptop, the screen started flickering and became garbled. It's too garbled to see, and I can't find the mouse and undo what I've done. I tried restarting but it's still like this.
