Bugcheck Code: 0x9F (0x3) And "Won't Shutdown Properly"?
Sep 25, 2012
I have been experiencing shutdown issues for the past 4-5 days now. I click the shutdown option under the start menu, and the screen goes black and the power button is still illuminated. The light had usually gone off, indicating the computer is powered off, but now it's non responsive and I have to hold the power button down to shutdown. Upon further research, I saw a bugcheck on the 20th of Sept 2012, about 4-5 days ago. Has to be related. Furthermore, when the computer goes into hibernate, it becomes non responsive as well, just like the shutdown issue. Of course here is the requested info per the sticky.
i shutdown my pc properly via the shutdown button in start menu... but when i check my reliability monitor it says windows was not shutdown properly. it doesnt happen everytime i shutdown but seems to happen randomly every now and then.
I seem to be getting this message and the prompt to boot into safe mode everytime I startup or reboot. Everything seems to be shutting down normally. This wouldn't be a big deal except for the fact that it seems to be loading an old system restore point whenever it does this. I don't know for sure if these 2 issues are connected. I first started getting the "Windows didn't shutdown properly" prompt after I had to do a reset of my computer during a total lock. I can't say for sure if the system restore point issue began when I first saw this as I don't shutdown my computer very often.
Anyway, anytime my Sony Vaio computer isn't shut down properly, or the screen times out due to inactivity, it will show a screen that says "windows is loading files" and then proceeds to do a start up repair in which it will try to restore my device to a previous setting (or something like that). When i first got this computer, as with my previous HP, I could close the lid..no harm no foul. After having this one for a month it started doing this out of nowhere.
Windows 7 ultimate 64 bit..THe problem is that my Laptop doesnt shut down properly..When i shut down the laptop screen shown only logoff . finally have to manually turn it off .This only happens like every other time. All drivers are up to date, all Windows Updates are done. System specs:

recently, i've noticed that whenever i sleep my computer, attempting to shut it down later does not work. the process just hangs at the Windows 7 screen with the Shutting down...message. i've let it run for 30 minutes one time and nothing happened, still Shutting down... every time this has happened, i end up manually powering off. the computer shows no ill effects on start up (other than the 'your computer shut down improperly' message). i can't find any unusual events in event viewer, either. it shuts down fine when not having used sleep mode. to sum it up: when i power on my computer normally and DO NOT use sleep mode at all between a shut down, everything is fine. when i power on my computer normally and DO use sleep mode at some point between the shutdown, the computer will typically HANG at the shut down screen and not actually shut down. however, what makes this tough to trouble shoot is that sleeping it for 5 or 10 minutes will have no effect on shutting down...but sleeping it overnight (7-8 hours) will. this problem has been occurring for about 3 months now, though i only started noticing the trend recently. i typically shut my computer off during the week and sleep it through Friday and Saturday and then shut it down again on Sunday (now, i shut it down all the time of course). the computer is virus and malware free according to MSE and Mbam. the only thing i can think of that i installed in between now and 2 months ago were various Steam games and graphics drivers updates. my HDD has never given me any trouble, memory is fine, CPU isn't overheating, etc, etc. my specs are Windows 7 (legit copy before anyone asks), 8gb RAM, 2500k, AMD 6950, Samsung Spinpoint 1TB (regular HDD, no SSD).

It is a factory refurb ex-demo which came with windows 7 installed.I originally got the machine in January with a 1TB HD plus NVidia GeForce graphics card.Using with USB wired mouse, wireless keyboard. All was well for 10 days or so until it started having unexpected shutdowns. These increased to become full BSOD, occurring once or 2x daily. These events sometimes occur without warning although sometimes the mouse/keyboard goes sticky for up to an hour before problems occur. The machine has been back to supplier where it failed to display any problems.I have tried it without graphics card, tried disconnecting speakers, using with/without surge protected adaptors, tried different mouse/keyboard (wired and wireless).
Finally I tried my 1TB HD in another PC (same model as mine).Complete lockup of keyboard/ mouse.Reinstalled on 160GB HD (all that was available to test) in the alternative PC, refused to work with wireless keyboard and mouse, ran fine for a week with USB wired devices. Swapped back to my original PC keeping 160GB HD, ran 2 days ok, now back to same BSOD message.

I've been getting a BSOD every few days, usually while playing games such as Trine or Morrowind. They are all reported as DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE, and are usually to be 0x03. BlueScreenView tells me it's ntoskml.exe which doesn't help me figure out what's wrong. I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium 64Bit. It's the upgrade version, meaning I installed WinXP on a clean, wiped drive, then upgraded it to Windows 7. I'm not sure exactly when I did this last but I think it was about a year ago.
I have not made any HW changes or installed any new SW or driver The system is on a mild OC of 3.4Ghz Also i am using MSE and Comodo firewall The reliability monitor shows that "Windows was not properly shutdown"
I have been getting lots of 9F crashes on a HP DV7 laptop running 64bit Windows 7 Home Premium.Problem is the the minidumps are not being saved! I have set it up to save them (small dumps) and not to automatically restart. I cant debug it without them
I've had this Dell Studio 17 laptop for a few years now, and have ran into a few problems in the past. However, in the past few weeks, the computer seems to blue screen almost every time I close the lid and it enters sleep mode. This has not happened at all while the computer itself has been running. Here is the minidump file from this morning. All of the 8-10 minidumps since 12/11 seem to point to "ntkrnlmp.exe", if I'm reading that correctly.
DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE (9f) A driver has failed to complete a power IRP within a specific time (usually 10 minutes). Arguments: Arg1: 0000000000000004, The power transition timed out waiting to synchronize with the Pnp subsystem.
I had 19 crashes in the past 4 month.A computer is 13 month old. The first BSODs happened on 27/12/2011. The exact statistics:
0x1A MEMORY_MANAGEMENT - happened 10 times (the 5 most recent crashes were 0x1A) 0x24 NTFS_FILE_SYSTEM - 4 times (the most recent happened 3 weeks ago) 0xE4 WORKER_INVALID - 3 times (the most recent happened a month ago) 0x19 BAD_POOL_HEADER - 1 time (2 weeks ago) 0x9F DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE - 1 time (3 month ago)
I'm attaching 3 most recent dump analyses.Besides BSOD, I'm also seeing event 11 in the event log, with messages like "The driver detected a controller error on DeviceHarddisk3DR3". Harddisk3 is likely to be a WD Passport drive plugged into USB 3.0 port. The drive is used for Acronis backup.Interestingly, the event 11 started to happen on 19/12/2011 (shortly before the first BSOD).
1) I'm ruling out RAM issues. Few weeks ago I bought a brand new 4x4GB kit and replace the old RAM modules. The problem still continued.
2) I upgraded motherboard's BIOS, downloaded and installed all the recent drives from ASUS site, installed the latest AMD Radeon drivers. All with little help.
3) chkdsk didn't report any errors.
4) I used Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2011 before, and upgraded to Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2012 in March. This upgrade had little effect on BSODs.
5) I'm also using Acronis True Image Home 2011.
6) System configuration:
CPU: Intel i7-2600 (stock clock) Mainboard: Asus P8P67 LE RAM: Corsair 4x4GB kit CML16GX3M4A1600C9B at XMP speed (G.Skill F3-12800CL9D-8GBXL before that) GPU: Fanless Gigabyte Radeon HD 5750 SSD: G.Skill Phoenix PRO 120GB as OS drive SSD: Intel 520 120GB SSD as data drive (this was added recently - BSOD happened before this SSD was installed) Discrete NIC: Intel Gigabit CT Desktop Discrete COM port: MANHATTAN Serial PCI Express Card PSU: Seasonic X-650 UPS: APC Smart-UPS 750 VA (SMT750I) OS: Windows 7 64-bit SP1
Interestingly BSODs often happen at night, when the load is minimal. So I don't think it happens due to overheating. My prime suspects are: motherboard, fanless GPU, Phoenix Pro SDD, Acronis.
The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x000000f4 (0x0000000000000003, 0xfffffa8007f88800, 0xfffffa8007f88ae0, 0xfffff80002bdd240). A dump was saved in: C:WindowsMEMORY.DMP. Report Id: 071012-8112-01.
Windows 7 is freezing. At first I thought that it's random. I made a clean install but the problem was still there. Then I figured, that windows only freezes if I am running utorrent with storage on external WD mybook. Quite weird.
Event wiever says:
The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x0000000a (0x0000000000000000, 0x0000000000000002, 0x0000000000000000, 0xfffff80002a10477)
What could be the cause? Driver, application?
I am going to test the memory with memtest just in case.
I turned my computer off so it could update. It turned off correctly. The next morning, I turn on my computer, and windows starts, and then configures it's updates. After this windows restarts my computer. When the computer restarted, Windows couldn't start. I tried multiple times, but got nowhere. System restare didn't work, I got errors when trying to restore. (I have tried 2 different restore points.) Startup repair, after a few tries, finally gave me an error. It said:
Root cause found: Bad hard disk: Bugcheck 7a. Parameters = 0xfffff8a001342c00, 0xffffffffc000009c, 0xdda0b8c0, 0xfffff900c0780000.
Every other test ran without errors. This was somehow caused by windows update, because my comp has worked perfectly until windows installed these updates.
The poblems started a few weeks ago when i upgraded the CPU and the GPU. The vendors of the components and the motherboard stayed the same. (E6550 --> E8500 and HD4850 --> HD6850)It had some crashes before but now it got realy bad so i reinstalled the system, updated MB bios, dowloaded drivers from vendor sites, updated everything and only installed basic 3rd party drivers and software. The crashes still remained they happen more often when the computer is under heavy load (3D operations, games running), but they also occur if im playing a video or just use a web browser.I ran memtest, chkdisk but nothing, then furmark and intelliburn but no effect. The remaining drivers came up clean with verifier, and i looked after anything that came up from the crashdumps but my windbg knowledge is limited.
Running windows 7 ultimate 32bit full retail. Asus M4A77TD. Radeon 3850. AMD Phenom ii black edition. 2 x 2GB Patriot G2 PC3-10666 1333MHz.
Running Windows 7 for about 3-4 months after old motherboard died. System was idle for about 2 hours when screen went blank for about a second, then replaced by bluescreen.
"The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x000000c2 (0x00000007, 0x0000109b, 0x08060017, 0x87d1d218). A dump was saved in: C:WindowsMEMORY.DMP. Report Id: 033112-16177-01."
Got this from event viewer. This has happened a couple of times intermittently, but let it go...til now, not sure if its the same error message, as this is the first time I got BSOD while system idle. Also, have had other erratic behaviour e.g.: while transferring large files to external drive transfer would stop leaving me thinking all done, this would happen when power options set to power down monitor after 30 minutes. Have set monitor to never sleep and problem solved, but maybe worth a mention here. Also, have noticed warning in event viewer, "dll's for all apps being loaded". Using avast free av, and noticed avast real time scanner going crazy with 100%...maybe its scanning all these dll's at that time but again not sure, just maybe worth a mention.
My pc shutdown unexpectedly and coming blue screen. The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was : 0x000000d1 (0x7ec1d0b8, 0x00000002, 0x00000000, 0x8c61c031)
I received the BSOD twice today. I was just surfing the internet, nothing else. I have up to date virus and spyware and do regular scans. Not sure what the problem is. This is from the event log:The bugcheck was: 0x0000009f (0x0000000000000003, 0xfffffa800a6bc050, 0xfffff8000472f4d8, 0xfffffa8009a53e10 I uploaded the files per the instructions.
I've been experiencing seemingly random crashes and auto-restarts of my computer that started a couple months ago. When it crashes, the video feed to my monitors stops so they go dark and say no signal and any sound that was playing begins stuttering; after about 10 seconds my computer restarts, so apparently there was a bluescreen that I could not see and the delay was windows saving the crash dump. The problem is that the crashes are completely random; well, not completely, they only occur when I'm playing a fullscreen game, never when browsing the web or watching videos. About a month ago I freshly reinstalled windows 7 on a spare hard drive; hoping the problem was somehow related to 'garbage' and a fresh install would fix it. It stopped... for a while, and then started back up again.
I did some googling recently, found that someone with a similar issue had fixed it by upgrading their drivers; did so and found several including mobo inf and related were very out of date. That was about a week ago. When Skyrim was released on the 11th I did a marathon gaming session that lasted about 30 hours (yeah, I know) with zero computer issues whatsoever. Then, yesterday afternoon I started playing Skyrim again.. and it crashed again randomly about 2 hours into my play. Crashed again about an hour later; and then this evening it crashed like 10 minutes into my play session.I don't normally ask for help with computer issues; I've always fixed them myself with assistance from googling stuff and forums that helped me figure out what to do, but this is beyond me.
I built my current system december '08, upgraded the graphics card to the current gtx 570 last december and upgraded my OS from vista to 7 a few months ago. The rest of my system info is in my system profile stuff. Brief version below:
Also, my system runs quite cool; normal cpu idle temps are 84 F and system 120 ish. I've never experienced any graphical corruption either. One other thing I just recalled. Before about november 8th, these crashes used to say they were related to:Event 18 WHEA-logger A fatal hardware error has occurred.
I have a ASUS Laptop with Intel I3 processer and Windows 7 Home Premium. I recently had a forced shutdown during a Windows upgrade session. Ever since then the Boot and Shutdown times have increased to over 15 minutes. I have run the msconfig unticking all but the antivirus (Kaspersky) and it still takes >15 min to boot and Shutdown. Is there something I can do before I decide to reinstall Windows &. (I dont have a install disk.) The software came with the Computer and I have the OEM code (Bought at Best Buy)
I have two windows updates that keep failing. When i go to shutdown my computer I always have an update icon attached to the shutdown key. The download is always 1of1. Then when i reboot, the update icon is still there. I'm thinking since the two updates are failing, it has something to do with the 1of1 update not downloading properly. I went to windows update to check for new updates, and the only one is the two that keep failing. My computer just blue screened on shutdown today, winch got me thinking i really need to fix this.
Im not sure if this is in the right category, but I think it could be Windows 7 related. My Powersupply died the other day so I purchased a new one and all was fine, except when I shutdown it either freezes or carries on for what seems like forever. The only thing is that on bootup my DVD Drive and SSD have changed ports so my dvd drive is now device00 and my SSD001.
i need the driver for windows 7....error code 28.My laptop is a philips x58......please help....the message i get is Mass Storage Controller Driver not installed
