I updated the bios to the latest version on a gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3, using @bios application in windows. I have two disks in a RAID1 All was working fine but upon boot i was getting a message about enabling ACHI. Stupidly curiousity got the better of me and I eventually I said Yes. The next time i turned off i couldn't boot to windows. I went into the bios and noticed that the SATA was set to ACHI, but the bios still saw my RAID volume set up and everything appeared Normal, so i changed this setting to RAID.
it still wouldn't boot to windows - giving some message about not having access to the drive. i tried using the windows install disk but that gives error messages about RECENV utility not working, use chkdsk. it does show a drive as a volume D: (not C: interestingly) I have tried running repair and that doesn't work. I have tried chkdsk/r and that didn't help. In fact that degraded the Raid so i had to rebuild it, and now that is running Normal.
I also can't see any of my restores when i use the install disk.
I don't want to do a reformat and start again as there is data on there that is newer than my last backup.
So the options i am considering
1. remove the disks - place one of them in an external usb case and try to extract the data to save it - not sure if this is possible? and then do a clean install or try the below.
2. can i go back to the previous bios version? is that just a case of power off everything and remove the CMOS battery? and power back on?
3. go through with a new install of win 7 but don't format the drive and see if it just corrects any bad files.

My motherboard is Gigabyte GA-M61VME-S2.
On their site for windows 7 there is only the realtek audio drivers.
However, there are vistra drivers.
I installed windows 7 and the connection to the internet is working(on xp without the chipset drivers there was no internet connection).
Should I try to install the vista drivers or it is unnecessary? Everything is working ok as far as I can tell.
(I did installed the win 7 nvidia drivers for my graphic card)

I have a Gigabyte motherboard that has just stopped working.Ive tested the PSU CPU RAM etc and they are all fine and the motherboard hasnt got any life at all for some unknown reason.the board is 11 months old and is being picked up by courier on monday and they said they will give me a refund.so in the mean time ive been looking at new boards as the one i have GA P41-ES3G seems to of been discontinued.y old board ran off DDR2 was Socket 775 Intel Q8400 Processor and its hard to track down boards that will take those components.I have seen one:- GIGABYTE - Motherboard - Socket 775 - GA-G41M-Combo (rev. 1.4)It says Rev 1.4 but the ones ive seen for sale either dont say what rev or say 1.2 or 1.3What are the differences in Rev and would it be a problem if its an older Rev i buy?

Noticed that Gigabyte has updated their downloads for my mobo EP35-DS3R to include Windows 7 specific items for 32-bit and 64-bit.
If you are running a Gigabyte board, might be useful to see if updated Win 7 downloads are available for you.

How to update gigabyte bios

I have a Gigabyte GA-H67A-UD3H-B3 motherboard that supports "DualBIOS" according to the manual. I'm currently on the F4 BIOS.the manual is hopeless on the topic. From other forums, I learned that you should be able to see the BIOS version of both BIOSes by examining a system info screen available by F9 key during boot. That screen only shows 1 bios in my case. From other forums, I also learn that "Alt F12" keys at boot should bring up a screen through which I can copy the main BIOS to the backup BIOS. All I can get with Alt F12 is a standard boot menu--choose HD, DVD, etc.I also read some poorly written "instructions" on how to get DualBIOS to "kick in"---they involved keeping the power button pressed in during boot, which turns the motherboard on then off within a few seconds. I had no luck with that.I can't find much online about this and I realize DualBIOS may be bogus even if I could get it to "work".But if it has some possibility of bailing me out in a jam, I'd like to get it working.

I just got my Windows 7 pro 64bit today and before i installed it i searched on the net if there any problem with the p5QL PRO MotherBoard,(Bios Version) anyway
right now my bios version/date 0902, 28/11/2008.
i never updates a bios before i don't want to blow up my motherboard either lol
i looked on support.asus and i found updates, version 1001 or higher 1004
but i don't want to upgrades it if i don't need too , anyones know if i really need to upgrades it to support win 7
cause i saw many thread here talking about win 7 64bit that don't work well with 9800GT
i dunno if the driver are the cause or the motherboard itself,

I just swapped out my old motherboard since it was quite rubbish (really old packard bell m-atx board) for a brand new ASrock P5B-DE motherboard.
However after installing the board and plugging everything back in exactly where it came from on the old board, the PC cant boot into windows 7 64bit. I've tried the repair option and it doesn't work.
I've tried disabling and enabling various options in the BIOS. Also tried removing the memory and only using 1 stick then tried both sticks in different slots and that hasn't changed anything.
I've tried inserting my Win7 CD but it doesn't seem to boot from the DVD drive (will keep trying to see if it can).
System specs are:
Intel core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 2.4GHz (using Freezer Pro7 CPU cooler)
Samsung DDR2 800mhz Ram (2GB x 2)
160GB 7200RPM Hitachi HDD
ATI (XFX) 5830 1GB GPU
Zalman 500W PSU
my next point of call is to try a lower end GPU as i've still got my Nvidia GTS 250 and doesn't use any external power from the PSU.
(P.S. I'm not overly bothered about doing a clean install as i recently did one anyway and I haven't had a huge amount of programs installed on the pc since then. But if I can fix this without a clean install that would be preferable)

About a month ago, one day when I turned my computer on, the BIOS display side had shrunk, leaving a 1 inch black border around the edge of the screen. This went away when I turned the computer on the following day, but has now come back. It doesn't seem to have any other adverse effects, but it bugs me. Can anyone explain why this might be and what I could do to make my BIOS full screen again?

I have a Windows 7 64bit system with a failed motherboard. A replacement of the same model of motherboard is no longer sold so I had to get a new motherboard. With the new motherboard, I assume I should start with a clean install of Windows. Is that the best way? Will trying to boot my existing Windows 7 64 hard drive in a system with a new motherboard possible? Maybe I could boot into safe mode and install drivers for the new motherboard? (The new motherboard has a different chipset. I am coming from a P35 chipset to a G41 chipset.)If I can't boot my old hard drive on my new motherboard, is there software available that will copy the accounts and settings and registry entries from my old boot drive to a new boot drive?

I have the above motherboard. I have been using a video card which is three years old and thought I would try out the integrated video before my video card died. I switched it in the Bios and switched the monitor cable and it started fine on integrated video. The only thing is that the first screen where I can enter Bios does not show, so I am unable to enter the Bios. I tried hitting the delete button on the blank screen but nothing happens. I was able to shut down the PC and switch back to the video card, so I am OK. Does anyone have any idea why the first screen doesn't show on integrated?

At my company I setup and deploy many windows 7 machines. I use a start-up batch file to do most of the work and a few other files in the start-up folder, this is all imaged to the hard drive with a hard drive duplicator. The batch file runs once and deletes it self. Anyways, that is the general idea of what is going on. the only thing left that I have to do manually is change the BIOS settings, USB enabled/disabled, behavior on power up, BIOS password, ect... Is there any way I could automate this process, preferably a command line?

I have been incredibly stupid and changed the settings in my BIOS setup. What is even more stupid is I did this by making it "Load Optimal Defaults" so I dont actually know what has been changed. As a result of this windows 7 now cannot start, it brings you to the error fixing part where it searches for errors, cant find any and offers you some more options including system restore. Ive done a system restore but that has also not fixed it. I have little idea how to fix this, windows 7 was working perfectly until I changed the BIOS, but not knowing what was changed means I cant change it back. The BIOS version is: 4core1600twins-p35 p1.40.

I have a Compaq 6530b laptop and am running Windows 7 Home Premium 32bit. I want to enable bluetooth on the laptop, but the Device Manager says it is disabled in the BIOS and to activate it with F10 on boot.. the problem is it asks for a BIOS password and I keep guessing and cant figure out what it is! Is there a simple way to reset the BIOS password or crack it? I took out the CMOS battery and waited 10 minutes, but that didnt do anything.

I am getting ready to set up a RAID Array but this is my first time doing anything with RAID. I know how to get into the BIOS and change settings and I know with two hard drives, I should do RAID 1. However, I just have a few questions before I do this. First off, I am an idiot and did not notice that my first hard drive I got when I built the computer has a 32 MB Cache:
Caviar Blue 1TB 7,200 RPM SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive WD10EALX - OEM
I noticed it only had a 32 MB CACHE when I went to get another one. I then asked for the version with a 64 MB CACHE (WD1002FAEX), paid for it and left. Will these two hard drives work together in RAID if they have different sized caches?
