View 1 RepliesMy wife is looking to buy A Windows 7 system and she is looking at the above. I can't remember whether regular 32 bit programs will work on a 64 bit cpu. I assume Windows 7 will be 64 bit though.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just received my copy of windows 7 upgrade. I took the advisory test and passed it. I am just wondering if you would recommend me doing any pre upgrade changes before doing the upgrade I am currently running
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 3800+
2.00ghz
3.00 Gb Ram
6200 Nvidia Gefource
Windows XP Home Edition
Version 2002 service pack 3
Other than that nothing much to state everything else will be migrated over.
I would like to know is it safe to set the CPU multiplier from 13.x to 15.5x on an AMD Athlon 64x2 5000+ Black Edition.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI just bought a: AMD Athlon X2 2.2 GHz 4200+ Socket 939 89W Dual-Core Processor
and I have spent many hours trying to get 7 to detect that there is two cores in this thing and that it needs to utilize them both. But I'm not really sure if there is a driver out there that I can use... The setup I found would say its not compatible with this OS when I ran it.
Is anyone else having issues with 7 detecting their AMD dual core processors correctly? Are there some compatible drivers that I've missed?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI've made a clean install of Windows 7 Ultimate a few days ago and I started to encounter the following problem after 30-60 minutes. It usually happens when I'm running a computer game (any game), I experience a sudden fps drop, even though before that, on maximum quality the game was running perfectly, becomes unenjoyable, quit the game. The CPU meter gadget shows 100%, and even after I close everything, browser, windows explorer, the best I get at idle is 70-80% and if I try to open anything at all, it becomes stuck at 100% again.
So I open task manager and go processes, put them in a descending order of processor usage, and see that they nowhere near add up to 100%, even though at the bottom the task manager says CPU usage is at 100%. Physical memory is usually around 20-60%, no problems with that. If I go to Performance tab, and click on resource monitor, I experience the same thing: the actual usage is nowhere near 100%, I can't see any processes that would explain for the performance drop, in fact the highest demanding process is the resource monitor itself. The problem persists until I restart the computer, shutting down takes much longer now.
It's a HP Compaq 8510w laptop with Windows 7 Ultimate x64 Build 7600
Intel Core 2 Duo T7500 (2.2 GHZ)
Hewlett-Packard 30C5 (Intel PM965 (Cresline-PM) + ICH8M-E)
4GB memory
nVidia Quadro FX 570M [HP]
Intel 82801HB ICH8 - High Definition Audio [B1]
I've tried several suggestions:
Disabling HDAC in Device Manager (High Definition Audio Controller)
Disabling Audio Enhancements in Sound>Speaker Properties
Installing the very newest drivers, including chipset drivers
Running programs in XP compatibility mode
Disabling the gadgets
I've no reason to think I've been infected by malicious software, I can't find any suspicious processes running.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm having an issue with my CPU. It seems that it is only using one of its cores. This issue first became apparent to me when I was trying to run Blacklight Retribution. It popped up a warning message saying that my computer does not meet the minimum requirements of have at least a dual core. And indeed the game was unplayable, with single digit fps constantly. However when i go to the performance tab of my task manager it shows 4 graphs, meaning that 4 cores must be running. Then I go the boot tab of my systems configuration, click on advanced options and underneath the "Number of Processors:" check box (which is unchecked), it shows 1 as the number of processors. My processor is an Intel(R) Xeon(TM) CPU 3.60GHz (4 CPUs), ~3.6GHz.

View 7 Replies View RelatedQX9650, quad core, task manager, cpu-z, cpu-id, shows showing only 2 two cores.I recently upgraded an Intel E8500 to a QX9650 and had the problem of Windows 7 only showing 2 of the 4 cores. It took a few frustrating hours to find the solution, but I got there in the end without the need for a Windows re-install.
1st: You must have Windows 7 Professional. Home Premium does not support more than 2 cores. Upgrade to Pro.
2nd: If Task manager and CPU-Z are only showing 2 cores, you'll be feeling pretty confused, right?
Go to Start-->Run, type MSCONFIG.Under the BOOT tab, click 'Advanced Options'.In the top left corner it says "Number of Processors" (you'll have been here already and it says '2').Uncheck this and do a reboot. This solved my hours of confusion. Now I have 4 cores in Task Manager, CPU-Z and all is well.If all this fails, then get yourself set up for an OS reinstall; that should get you where you want to be.
I am working currently in 2d/3d animation field. I need a faster processor. I need to know the comparison between core i3 and dual core processors regarding configuration, customization, speed and performance.

View 4 Replies View RelatedOdd situation. I have two video cards a geforce4 MX 4000 and built in Intel Q965/Q963 installed in a HP dc5700 with 1GB of RAM running Windows 7 Enterprise fresh install. The onboard Intell has the latest drivers from HP and the nVidia I got working using the 81.98 forceware driver.
If I select the nvidia card as the main video card in the BIOS the display will show up on just one monitor (the one plugged in to the card), if I look in the device manager it sees both cards w/o errors yet I have no option for dual display, if I click on "detect" it finds nothing. Also all the nvidia software runs fine.
However if I select the onboard card as the default then the display goes on just it's monitor but this time in device manager the nvidia card has the "windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems (code 43)" message and obviouly no option for dual monitors.
It would seem both drivers and monitors are working since they work independantly, it's just that Windows7 doesn't seem to want them to play together. Also this situation worked fine when pc was WinXP.
I have recently bought a Dell XPS 15z laptop from eBay and it has an i7 2640m processor which according to the Intel website is a dual core processor. Well the problem i'm having is when I run task manager and CPU-Z etc, only one core is showing under performance. I have tried pretty much everything including reset Bios etc.

On their site for windows 7 there is only the realtek audio drivers.
However, there are vistra drivers.
I installed windows 7 and the connection to the internet is working(on xp without the chipset drivers there was no internet connection).
Should I try to install the vista drivers or it is unnecessary? Everything is working ok as far as I can tell.

I have checked the BIOS and cant find any related settings and when i go to msconfig in the boot menu (advance) Number of processors is unchecked by default and if i check it the drop down only shows one core. The device manager is not showing any driver issues.
