I just received my copy of windows 7 upgrade. I took the advisory test and passed it. I am just wondering if you would recommend me doing any pre upgrade changes before doing the upgrade I am currently running
My wife is looking to buy A Windows 7 system and she is looking at the above. I can't remember whether regular 32 bit programs will work on a 64 bit cpu. I assume Windows 7 will be 64 bit though.
QX9650, quad core, task manager, cpu-z, cpu-id, shows showing only 2 two cores.I recently upgraded an Intel E8500 to a QX9650 and had the problem of Windows 7 only showing 2 of the 4 cores. It took a few frustrating hours to find the solution, but I got there in the end without the need for a Windows re-install.
1st: You must have Windows 7 Professional. Home Premium does not support more than 2 cores. Upgrade to Pro.
2nd: If Task manager and CPU-Z are only showing 2 cores, you'll be feeling pretty confused, right?
Go to Start-->Run, type MSCONFIG.Under the BOOT tab, click 'Advanced Options'.In the top left corner it says "Number of Processors" (you'll have been here already and it says '2').Uncheck this and do a reboot. This solved my hours of confusion. Now I have 4 cores in Task Manager, CPU-Z and all is well.If all this fails, then get yourself set up for an OS reinstall; that should get you where you want to be.
i want to upgrade my hp dv2000 laptop from vista home edition (64bit) to win 7the Q: can i do the upgrade using a win 7 ultimate full version? or do i have to use an upgrade version?note. i don't want to use a clean instal because i don't want to lose my existing programs.
I purchased a laptop loaded with Windows 7 Home Premium edition that needs an upgrade to Spanish. I downloaded the x84 Spanish Ultimate edition but I am unsure how to proceed to minimize any mishap.
Windows 7 64bit has dificulty starting up tried repair mode but it reports that it cant fix the problem automatically, Do I need to update the bios for my asus m2a-vm hdmi motherboard to run this operating system correctly, this was a clean install on a new sata drive. My IDE drive has the old operting system on it? which is windows xp home edition 32bit which has all the latest service packs and updates intalled? I personally think it is a bios problem? windows xp works perfectly, windows 7 wont start but xp does no problem?
I'm not overly familiar with low-end hardware (look at my specs ). What was the difference between Intel's Core 2 Duo and their Pentium Dual core? They seemed like identical CPUs to me.
I am working currently in 2d/3d animation field. I need a faster processor. I need to know the comparison between core i3 and dual core processors regarding configuration, customization, speed and performance.
Which one of these PSUs should i get, i know the XFX is good quality but i would like a bit more headroom for future upgrades so should i choose the GX
I have a pc that came with XP but is now running windows 7 Home Premium 32 Bit. (SP1 with all updates)
Ever since i upgraded windows has only seen one core even though its a dual core system. The processor is a AMD Athlon 64 Processor 3500+ 2.20Ghz.
I have checked the BIOS and cant find any related settings and when i go to msconfig in the boot menu (advance) Number of processors is unchecked by default and if i check it the drop down only shows one core. The device manager is not showing any driver issues.
Set Up Your Home Network, Windows 7 Edition. Here’s how you can get your Windows 7 PC to share printers and files with XP and Vista PCs--and even a Mac.
With Windows 7, you can more easily share files and printers across a network via the new HomeGroups feature. HomeGroups lets you connect to files and printers with a group password--if all the PCs have Windows 7. But I'll show you how to get your Windows 7 PC to play nicely on a network that also has Macs and XP/Vista PCs.
Every time I try and shut down my computer an explanation mark (!) appears, signifying that Windows need updating. However, once I start the updating process, the process completes after a few minutes with the following message "Some updates were not installed".

I have gone all the way through step 13 of this guide: Clean Install Windows 7hen I get to enter the product ID, it says it won't accept it. When I talk to Microsoft, they say I have to have XP already installed on this new HDD in order to use this ID
I restored from Carbonite online back up service to my current Win7 Laptop. In the restoration process, it created a user from the previous machine's setup. I now have 2 user's which I would like to replace with "NO USERS" (since I am the sole user). (I use individual file passwords to protect my personal or confidential files.) I can live with one User which would have control over the entire computer rather than an Administrator with other users with different levels of access.
I am concerned with possibly losing access to the files under the new user if I delete the current users.
Acer laptop I3 processor would not accept updates also all previous updates disappeared tried microsoft fixit to no avail tried the reg fix but didnt work finally after reloading the op system has fixed that problem but now I am left with a very slow computer used msconfig stopped all programs loading on startup this didn't improve anything where do I go from there?
Installed Windows 7 Home Edition on an older Compaq SR1616NX. Seems to run really well after I installed the Vista legacy video driver. The sound doesn't work though. Could someone recommend a PCI sound card that'll work with this OS?
I have an ASUS P4P800 SE Motherboard and would like to know if it will run Windows7 x64 Home Edition ? I bought the game Rage and it lags BAD, it was suggested to upgrade to Windows 7 x64 bit and it would be awesome. I just don't know if this old board is set up to run it. It can run Win XP x64,so not sure the differance ? Is anyone running Win 7 x64 on a ASUS P4P800 SE motherboard ? I have a P4 3.20 Dual Core HT,4 gigs memory,Radeon 4650 Video Card,320 gig hard drive, the Rage Manufacturer says my system is above specs for game - though I'm running Win XP Pro x32 at this time and want to upgrade
