Jul 28, 2010I'm having is that I recently installed Windows 7 Ultimate (from XP Ultimate) and the computer was working really slowly.
First I opened task manager and found only one CPU was being monitored, there was only one window for one CPU, not two windows with only one firing!
This I found strange, checked the WEI and my processor got a 2.3 rating (its a Core 2 Duo @ 1,83Mhz, a T5600), I then downloaded a tone of widgets to check if they could "see" the other core, nothing. I went into msconfig, the no. of processors box is unchecked, if I check it, the drop down menu only gives me the option of picking 1 CPU.

I am running Windows 7 Ultimate on an HP nx9420 laptop with 3GB of RAM, a new HDD (250GB), the old one just stopped working really, and the Core 2 Duo T5600 @ 1,83Mhz that is running only one core.
Upgrade From Dual Core To Quad Core?
Nov 9, 2010QX9650, quad core, task manager, cpu-z, cpu-id, shows showing only 2 two cores.I recently upgraded an Intel E8500 to a QX9650 and had the problem of Windows 7 only showing 2 of the 4 cores.It took a few frustrating hours to find the solution, but I got there in the end without the need for a Windows re-install.
1st: You must have Windows 7 Professional. Home Premium does not support more than 2 cores. Upgrade to Pro.
2nd: If Task manager and CPU-Z are only showing 2 cores, you'll be feeling pretty confused, right?
Go to Start-->Run, type MSCONFIG.Under the BOOT tab, click 'Advanced Options'.In the top left corner it says "Number of Processors" (you'll have been here already and it says '2').Uncheck this and do a reboot.This solved my hours of confusion. Now I have 4 cores in Task Manager, CPU-Z and all is well.If all this fails, then get yourself set up for an OS reinstall; that should get you where you want to be.
Quad Core Processor Only Running On One Core?
Jul 3, 2012I'm having an issue with my CPU. It seems that it is only using one of its cores. This issue first became apparent to me when I was trying to run Blacklight Retribution. It popped up a warning message saying that my computer does not meet the minimum requirements of have at least a dual core. And indeed the game was unplayable, with single digit fps constantly. However when i go to the performance tab of my task manager it shows 4 graphs, meaning that 4 cores must be running. Then I go the boot tab of my systems configuration, click on advanced options and underneath the "Number of Processors:" check box (which is unchecked), it shows 1 as the number of processors. My processor is an Intel(R) Xeon(TM) CPU 3.60GHz (4 CPUs), ~3.6GHz.

Ever since i upgraded windows has only seen one core even though its a dual core system. The processor is a AMD Athlon 64 Processor 3500+ 2.20Ghz.
I have checked the BIOS and cant find any related settings and when i go to msconfig in the boot menu (advance) Number of processors is unchecked by default and if i check it the drop down only shows one core. The device manager is not showing any driver issues.

aren't they supposed to carry the load equally, Or is that normal? When I have something else up besides the game I'm playing (MineCraft online) it evens out more.

QT Lite Won't Open At All
Mar 10, 2011I downloaded QT Lite to play my .MOV files and it doesn't show in Right Click > "Open With". Only the Configuration Settings and Uninstall are in Start > Programs. The application is listed in Program Files (x86) but when I double click the application nothing happens.
I was a bit surprised when it didn't add or give the option to add a desktop icon or shortcut. But it seems as though the app has not installed properly. But I downloaded it from: |MG| QT Lite 4.1.0 Download which is the main site.
I have tried it three times now, and I can't get it to work, even though I just installed it with the everything it suggested during the Install Wizard. I opened the Configuration settings and don't understand any of them, so I don't know what to check or uncheck.

May 21, 2009since build 7068 I've been facing this problem with this network adapter, will try to explain as good as I can.
Problem as following: Everytime I start the pc after one or two minutes I lost my internet connection and when I try to restart the pc it hangs when shutting pc is showed, forcing me to shut it down only whit the power button.
I have tried to install the vista x64 driver that I have for this network adapter but cannot installed since is onlyfor vista x64, neither in compatibilty mode. After a few research managed to installed it via safe mode. and by now is working good but device manager shows a warning icon and a Cannot start device code 10.
any knows is theres a win 7 update driver?? can I just keep ignoring the code 10 till this bug is fixed??

I initially got an error on both drives for "Windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required for this device. (code 52)"
Both listed the cdrom.sys driver but also the unsigned file GEARAspiWDM.sys in the windowssystem32 directory.
I figured I'd rename the GEAR file and uninstall/reinstall the drivers for the optical drives, but it just tells me that it loaded cdrom.sys but can't load any device driver for the hardware.
Device manager shows them with yellow caution tales and lists both reasons as "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing (code 39)
On the driver details tab both show C:windowssystem32cdrom.sys as the driver and it shows it as signed.

Apr 18, 2011I decided that I wanted this cheap dell laptop to run faster, so I used a tool to "strip down" my windows 7 32bit. It worked stupendously well. Everything seems two or three times as fast now as it was before.
BUT, I now have no wifi access. I confirmed that the wifi drivers are installed. They register as "working properly" but I am not finding ANY wifi signals. The problem is within the computer somewhere. Other computers in my home find 5 or 6 signals (as this one used to). The strip down tool also removed the network diagnostics feature of windows 7, so I am without recourse.
I am, however, able to connect to the internet through my iphone (pdanet) being directly connected to my laptop.

Now i have a big problem it no longer works well on USB enclosure. it does work perfectly internally, on SATA cable but on USB when i insert a disk in it the computer locks.
