View 3 Replies View RelatedAs you may know, you can purchase Windows Vista Upgrade Edition at half the price of the full version, and do a clean install from a blank system pretty easily - you do a clean install but do not enter the product key, then do a re-install from boot and this time enter your upgrade key - voila, a clean full install of Vista.
This is useful for those of us who own a previous version of Windows but want to do a clean install (previous versions of Windows allowed us to insert previous CD to prove ownership but Vista doesn't for some reason).
Does anyone know if this trick will be available for Windows 7? As a genuine owner of Vista, I aim to buy the upgrade edition of Windows 7 but always do clean installs and never 'soft' upgrades so I don't want to have to install Vista first each time.
I download a Traditional Chinese language pack (iso) from Microsoft Connect and I followed the instruction that i found from Internet to change my windows display language from English(default) to Chinese but I'm having problem to install it.
In the installation windows after i browsed for the language pack file it tells me that "the language cannot be installed in this computer" (see screen shot below). Any help?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am trying to do a Windows 7 reinstall from my Samsung Recovery disk, as I have a Samsung laptop. I have received the infamous "windows could not format a partition on disk 0...Error code: 0x80070057" error. Through researching this forum it seems the diskpart program is used to troubleshoot. However, the program only displays English from the command lines or numbers (i.e. - 465 GB).Everything else is displayed as Chinese or Japanese characters. Is there a way to change the language to all English?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI bought Windows 7 Ultimate edition and installed it on my laptop. This laptop has a Windows media centre edition 2002 cd key sticker attached.I then went on to install vmware and tried to install windows xp mce on it.Now I lost the recovery disk supplied and the laptop manufacturer asked me to pay in order to re-deliver the disk. So I downloaded Windows XP MCE 2005 OEM edition instead but it does not take the cd key I was supplied it with. Here is my question,a. Why isn't the windows accepting my cd key prior to the installation? I thought the cd key supplied from laptop are all OEM copies and I am using the same machine?Could it be due to the different cpu and ram amount allocation? [i.e. allocating 1 cpu to vmware while the machine has 2?] I upgraded my hard disk and installed additional 1gb ram. Apart from these all other devices are identical
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just bought a new Hp Pavilion dv7-6b11. It comes with preinstalled Windows 7 64bit Home Premium. I also installed a new ssd drive. I want to have as primary the ssd with Windows 7 and secondary the original hdd. I mean I want the Hp's Windows 7 version to be installed in my new ssd disk. Ok, I thought I could download Windows 7 original and activate it with my stickers serial. But what about the drivers which are already preintalled? I think it's a classic problem (the "I bought a new laptop, I installed a new ssd and I want to install the original-preinstalled Windows 7 on ssd") but I haven't found a proper solution.

I just ordered an SSD and will be migrating my Windows 7 64 install over to it. Most people seem to say I should do a fresh install instead of cloning the old drive. Currently my OS is on a partition on my HDD, while the rest of my files reside on a different partition on the same drive.
Where this gets slightly trickier is that my version of Windows 7 is an upgrade edition. From what I remember reading before my initial install, the installer is much happier and the process is much smoother if it can detect an existing Windows installation somewhere on the system. But on the other hand, everyone seems to advise disconnecting all drives but the SSD when installing (to avoid having the boot loader install on the wrong drive?).
I can't have it both ways. The closest I've found to someone with my same dilemma is here: Upgrade Installation - To new SSD From XP
It sounds like in the end he had to do the reinstall workaround (install Windows 7 again over the invalidated installation).
So here is my dream scenario. I do a fresh install of windows 7. Then i install all of my apps and codecs that i want. Once i have it configured exactly the way i want, i use a program to convert my installaltion into an iso that fits onto a dvd or dual layer dvd. Now, whenever a client wants a new computer, all i do is pop in that dvd, install and enter his license code. No more need to download, execute and click next for 2 hours. This install would be exactly like the one i set up beforehand. What i need is a program that does this. Open source is a requirement. I know i could swim through google, find a list of programs that does all this and then slowly weed them out till i find one that is decent. But it would be great if someone who does this task often could share how they do it with me, saving me hours/days of mind numbing labor.
