View 6 Replies View RelatedWindows 7 Starter Edition cannot be purchased--you have to get it on a netbook. Heh heh heh. Of course, some of us live in Mexico, where...never mind, the Federalies might be reading this.Anyway, you cannot play DVDs with Starter Edition. Just suppose someone in Mexico has a regular desktop with Starter Edition (and No, it isn't me).

I've installed and re-installed the printer several times, disconnected the USB and re-connected and the computer still won't recognize that my printer is connected. Therefore can't get it to print.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a netbook that I am thinking of returning for an exchange. The problem is that I have used Anytine Upgrade to install Win 7 Home Premium instead of the out-of-the-box Starter version. If I get a replacement netbook with Starter on it, will I be able to use the same activation number on the new one or will it ring up "Tilt"? If I need to revert to Starter to return this netbook, then how do I do that? There are too many subsequent restore points to be able to go that route. The one that would take me back to starter status has disappeared.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have just purchased a new pc that came with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, which wont run my company software, which was made in 1995, 16 bit. This 16bit software ran fine on my previous pc, which had Windows 7 Starter 32-bit. But the 64 bit Windows 7 version wont run it, I cant use Windows XP Mode on my version of Windows 7, need Pro - Ultimate Version.
I want to install and run the Windows 7 32-bit I have, on my new pc (I still have the installation disk) on a separate partition and keep the 64 bit version to. Is this possible to install both 32 bit and 64 bit versions of Windows 7 and then select which to run when the pc boots?
I upgraded this lunchtime from Windows 7 Starter to home premium via the Windows Upgrade Advisor which said my netbook was compatible, I carried out the upgrade via the windows upgrade advisor. It worked fine for a while but I was having trouble trying to set up my LAN and wireless connection to work together in order to get onto xbox live via BT Openzone. After a while the advice from the microsoft website was to carry out a system restore, so I did and used the recommended date, however on trying to restore the ugrade failed and reverted back to windows 7 starter. Tried again and had the same issue
View 2 Replies View RelatedIm giving a new netbook as a gift but it comes with windows 7 starter. Is there a reason for not upgrading to Home Premium due to ram, etc? Ive heard starter is recommended for net-books but its pretty much stripped isn't it?
Also, Is there a way of doing the upgrade through the Windows anytime upgrade but using a MSDN retail home premium key? I ask this because it sounds easier to do that way since it doesn't have a DVD drive.
Has anyone any idea on what is the difference between Windows 7 Home Premium Gold and "standard" edition? It is available from Dutch retailers, but they were unable to give me an answer. Googling forums and Microsoft web site (including Dutch one) also did not bring any results, except for more offers.
Could it be SP1 version or there is more to it?
The computer didn't come with a windows DVD, and i deleted the recovery partition (a stupid waste of storage space).I have a serial number in the battery bay of the laptop, but i don't have the DVD.Is there a way to download the OEM version of windows 7 home premium 64 bit?My computer is a HP Probook 4530s.

View 3 Replies View RelatedAs you may know, you can purchase Windows Vista Upgrade Edition at half the price of the full version, and do a clean install from a blank system pretty easily - you do a clean install but do not enter the product key, then do a re-install from boot and this time enter your upgrade key - voila, a clean full install of Vista.
This is useful for those of us who own a previous version of Windows but want to do a clean install (previous versions of Windows allowed us to insert previous CD to prove ownership but Vista doesn't for some reason).
Does anyone know if this trick will be available for Windows 7? As a genuine owner of Vista, I aim to buy the upgrade edition of Windows 7 but always do clean installs and never 'soft' upgrades so I don't want to have to install Vista first each time.
I had been reading Sevenforums before i actually join it. Eversince then i got most of my doubt solve.I just bought a Sony Vaio Y series come with Windows 7 Starter.I got a bad deal form Malaysia giving windows 7 stater and 320gb hd, whereas S'pore giving Windows 7 home premiun and 500hd. Anyway i like the design and portability of this model.I got a Year Warranty, But i'm wanted to upgrade it to Windows 7 Ent. and also wanted to upgrade my ram to 4GB max. my existing one is 2GB. but i afraid this would void the warranty.Let get my question i wanted to update to Windows 7 Ent with out and not keeping my starter. but i afraid of driver issue, i plan to boot by USB setup.
View 5 Replies View Relatedabout a month ago, my Windows 7 Starter went dead on my Toshiba NB250 netbook. At first I thought it was a HDD issue. I tried using downloaded 7 recovery tools to no avail, and for some reason, whatever took out the OS, took the factory installed recovery partition with it..After a few days, I was sick of waiting for the recovery media to arrive, so I tried Installing Ubuntu Netbook 10.10. It worked, so I assume the HDD is fine. The recovery media is on dvds, so it's useless to me (for some reason my BIOS doesn't support a boot from an external dvd drive). I got an iso of windows 7 starter. I've seen a ton of threads and responses where people say that the iso may be corrupted due to a bad download. Mine's fine, because it installs and runs in VirtualBox no problem.
I used the microsoft USB startup creation tool through my virtualbox installation. Thing is, whenever I try an install, I get a message saying there is a missing cd/dvd device driver. The thing has no cd/dvd drive, so I don't know what that's about. I tried copying the iso contents onto another piece of media, and did not make that bootable. I tried an install from my bootable usb, and then plugged in the usb of files. Nothing.I found this download on cnet, because I read about some guy who was messing around with his drivers to get an install to work. The cnet download was apparently only for vista, and when I put on my non-bootable media, and tried to install it when Windows asked for it, the installation told me that something was up with the drivers. Something to the tune of "contact the manufacturer for the newest software".
What I am wanting to do is a custom install of Windows 7 Premium. I'm really no expert on all things Windows, but I have felt for a long time that simply installing Windows from the cd / dvd is not really the most efficient and "power user" way of doing things. I feel that in doing an install from cd / dvd that lots of things are added that are not needed, and that I do not have the kind of control over my operating system (where things go, etc.) that I could have.
