Does Win 7 Ultimate Edition Support Both 32 And 64 ?
I would like to ask this straightforward question: does Windows 7 Ultimate Edition support both 32 and 64 bits? I have a legal copy of it and installed it on my Vista Business PC, but it seems to be running at 32 bits only. Is it because of this Vista only supporting 32 bits? How do you tell the bits your OS is running at?

Win 7 Ultimate Signature Edition Install Multiple HDds, One Machine
I have a machine I've built over the past year, I won't go into detail, but I have 3 separate hard drives installed. I opperate & run my contracting business on one, edit & mix audio/video on another, & the last one is for the wife & kids to play on. I got the OS in the party pack that came Friday. It's my understanding that I "won" this gift and it is mine to use as I see fit, as long as I don't copy & try to bootleg it or anything? I've been evaluating the RC for the last 4 months & filling out all these survey's Microsoft wants me to participate in for R&D, So, I think it's not too much to ask to let me install the OS on mutiple HD's?  I've tried to call the phone # for support before I even start to install this on anything, & the mailbox is full. (not a good sign P R wise!) Question. Does any one know if this would be possible? or am I going to open up a whole can of worms, so to speak, by attempting to do this?

Upgrade To Windows 7 Ultimate (Signature Edition) Not Working
I received the Windows 7 Ultimate Signature Edition from Microsoft 2 days ago. My HP Pavillion DV5 will not upgrade. I am going from Vista to 7. It gets all the way to the 60% into the last step ( after 5 hours) and then does a restart and says the upgrade did not work and spends another hour undoing the changes. I have attempted 3 upgrades three different ways. I have done it with the recomended updates, without the recomended updates, and after uninstalling all the programs that will not work with Windows 7. I used the update manager and it says that it should work. I am going to try again tonight. This time I am going to move all my documents to my external and then try. I have about 40GB worth of work. I am a Ph.D. and I have thousands of dollars worth of statistical programs that are a pain to get as I have to put requests into my department. Thus I want to do an upgrade and not a clean install. I only have about 30GB free on my drive so I have no room to partition.

"Windows 7 will be able to take advantage not only of faster CPUs, but of multiple processors on a single chip. The 64-bit edition of the operating system in particular will be able to support over 64 Logical Processors per machine. Student Upgrade $29.95 From Home Edition To Professional Edition
I have not seen an answer to this question yet. I have Windows 7 Home Premium and I want to upgrade to Windows 7 Professional using the $29.95 student upgrade promotion. Is this possible? And if so, would it be an "upgrade" over the top of my current edition, or would it instead be a clean install? It looks like the promotion is geared towards users with XP or Vista, but I would like to try Windows 7 Professional, now that I have tested the Home edition.

X64 Vista Ultimate To Win 7 Ultimate Upgrade Fails
I addressed all compatibility issues by uninstalling the software that it didn't like and downloaded the 3gig 64bit upgrade ISO. After it ran for a few hours and moved to what appeared to be the final stages - it rebooted. I found the screen hung right after the spinning MS logo displaying "starting windows" (or similar verbage). I gave it some time... moved the mouse, pressed spacebar, unplugged an external drive, and nothing made the silent HDD act up. Left with no other choice I killed it and rebooted. When it got to the same place it paused... but then informed me the upgrade was not successful, previous version of windows being restored, do not restart.Any advice on where to start here?

Stardock Preventing Upgrade From VISTA Ultimate To Win 7 Ultimate
Doing an upgrade from VISTA Ultimate to Windows 7 Ultimate. Got error that it could not upgrade because Window Blinds 6.0 or earlier was installed. I uninstalled Window Blinds via the STardock user interface and still get the error messages. Cleaned out the registry of any Stardock or Window Blinds reference. Removed any traces of both programs from the drive. Still get the error message and it won't upgrade. Any ideas? I've check Stardock support with no luck.

BSOD During Upgrade From Vista Ultimate To Win 7 Ultimate
I've tried to upgrade from Vista Ultimate 32 bit to 7 Ultimate 32 bit numerous times now, all with the same result: a BSOD during the install process, which I get during (what I think is) the final step called "Transferring files, settings and programs." The installation compatibility test warns me about my Nvidia drivers, which I've attempted to both remove and upgrade to the latest version, but that doesn't seem to make a difference (I still get the warning during the compatibility check, and I still get the blue screen). I'm not sure that's even the problem, either. I can't (easily) remove/replace the video card, since my mobo doesn't have onboard video, so I'd hopefully be able to avoid having to do that. The error in the blue screen is a nebulous "REFERENCE_BY_POINTER" message. The technical information is "STOP: 0x00000018 (0x00000000, 0x86478030, 0x00000002, 0xFFFFFFFF)." As a zip file, I've attached the setup log, error log, compatibility report, and what I think is the setup dump file, all of which I found in C:$WINDOWS.~BTSourcesPanther (I believe that's the right place to look). The logs complain about BthMig problems, which I think has something to do with bluetooth, but I don't have any bluetooth peripherals. I've uninstalled things that I thought might have some bluetooth things in it, like MS Intellitype (maybe a stretch), but again, no difference. System specs: AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+, on an Asus M2N SLI Deluxe, with 4 GB of ram, and an Nvidia GeForce 8800 GT. The hard drive I'm installing (upgrading) on has about 100 GB free.

I heard that an in-place upgrade to Windows 7 is only possible within the same language (e.g. EN-US). Now I worry that I'll buy the wrong Win 7 version.I know that my current Vista Ultimate is English, but how to find out which one (could be British as well)? Ist there a native OS language at all besides the language I set in the "regional and language options" in the control panel?And is this important at all? As far as I know Windows 7 Ultimate supports 35 languages, so does it matter at all as long as I accept to install Win 7 in the same language like my Vista is?Sorry, maybe I'm a bit confused *ggg*.

Issue With Win 7 Ultimate Upgrade From Vista Ultimate
I upgraded one of our test laptops from Windows Vista Ultimate 32 bit to Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit, I had a couple of issues installing the straight upgrade. The last issue I have is that during the update I was never prompted for a key, now when I go to the Control Panel/System I see that I have 27 days for the windows activation, however when I click on the Activate Windows now or If I click on the change product Key link under the Windows Activation page the O.S does nothing. I do have 3 licensed keys but the system does not even prompt me to enter any key. I also booted in safe mode and was unable to change the key. I've also run repair from the installation CD, does anyone know how to solve this issue or how to change the key in any other way..

I have Win Vista Ult Full and am eligible for the upgrade offer to 7 Upgrade version. I've never purchased an upgrade version before. 1) Can I do a clean install of the 7 upgrade on a new drive? 2) May I partition the new drive to run Vista and 7? 3) How would I switch between Vista and the New 7 OS? 4) Would I get better OS performance if I installed the OSs on separate physical drives and ran the secondary OS through a virtualization program? 5) From your, or Microsoft's experience, what virtualization program has done the best job running Win Vista?

Ultimate 64-bit Doesn't Support 4GB RAM
I have had Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit RTM installed for a couple of months now, but there is one issue that I have not been able to solve for this whole time. When I first went to install Windows 7, I had to remove a 2GB stick of RAM in order for the installer to even start without blue screen-ing on me. So I took the RAM out and managed to get 7 installed (yay!). However, when I tried to reinsert the RAM, I got the same BSOD that I would when trying to install 7 with the other 2GB in. I gave up after a couple of tries, and it has taken me this long to try to solve the issue. I am pretty sure that my specs are 7 Ultimate x64 compatible? Because if not, that is most probably the source of the error. Otherwise, could anyone lend a hand? It really hurts having 2GB of RAM lying around in a drawer being useless.

Win 7 wants an updated driver but I can not locate any as all scans for updated driver come back empty. This is an onboard controller on a MSI P45 Nero3 board.Any assistance would be appreciated.

Win 7 Starter Edition - Multiple Monitors
I am thinking of buying a netbook with Windows 7 Starter Edition. I've read up on the limitations and can live with most of them. However, I am unsure about the lack of multiple monitor support. What exactly does this mean? Does it mean that I can't extend the desktop onto an external display, and, say have a different program open on each screen, or does it prevent me from cloning the netbook screen onto an external video source such as a projector? If the former, then I'll definitely buy it; if the latter, then it won't work for me, because I can't use it to run PowerPoint presentations.

Vista Ultimate X64 To Win 7 Ultimate X64 In Place Upgrade Issue
I have, twice now, tried to do an in place upgrade from Windows Vista x64 Ultimate to Windows 7 x64 Ultimate. Vista is pretty much fully patched up to date, and Windows 7 is RTM and is choosing the option to download the latest updates for install. Both times it has taken about 11 hours to work through most of the phases of the upgrade, and then apparently hang in the transferring setting stages. It has hung at exactly the same point each time: 458886 of 607131 (for some strange reason, it reports this as 62%). The "hang" is not absolute, which is to say that all the rotation of "please wait..." messages continues, so it's not a totally lockup. That said, I let it be for about 8 hours the first time with no changes, and a whopping 35 hours last time (about 46 hours of total time with the upgrade running) - again without any change. Since there is no option to cancel, I was forced to shut down both times, and the rollback has taken perhaps a half hour. There are, of course, several questions to come out of this, but the primary one is "Where is the log?", and how can I determine what the heck it was working on when it decided to go away. Frankly, the idea that someone would RTM this when I'm hearing that a 5 hour in place upgrade is "fast", and it can take as long as 85 hours seems a bit more than ridiculous, but I'm doing my best to go with the flow.

Unable To Upgrade Vista Ultimate X64 To Win 7 Ultimate X64
I tried to upgrade from Vista Ultimate x64 to Windows 7 Ultimate x64. This is supposed to be a supported path for an in-place upgrade. When choosing Upgrade from Setup I get the following message: Windows Vistaâ„¢ Ultimate cannot be upgraded to Windows 7 Ultimate. You can choose to install a new copy of Windows 7 Ultimate instead, but this is different from an upgrade, and does not keep your files, settings, and programs. You'll need to reinstall any programs using the original installation discs or files. To save your files before installing Windows, back them up to an external location such as a CD, DVD, or external hard drive. To install a new copy of Windows 7 Ultimate, click the Back button in the upper left-hand corner, and select “Custom (advanced)”. I have run the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor and uninstalled any application or driver that reported problems. The only application left with a warning is Visual Studio 2008. Everything else is reported as compatible (green check mark). In fact, the Upgrade Advisor indicates that an in-place upgrade is available as an option. I haven't been able to find anyone else with this issue and there is nothing else pointing me in the right direction to resolve this. Has anyone seen this before and/or found a work-around.

I am a bit confused about "We would like to inform you that the upgrade should be done without a problem. Windows 7 ultimate supports Danish aswell we do not have Danish version." When I try to do the upgrade, I get this message : "You can't do a typical upgrade using an installation disc that's different from the language installed on your computer. Go online to see how to install Windows 7 and keep your files and settings. " The upgrade then stops.Ultimate supports Danish as well but there is not Danish version. Win 7 Ultimate And Win XP Pro Dual Boot Error
I have Windows 7 Ultimate OEM installed on my Seagate 160GB hard drive. I want to install my Windows XP Pro operating system. (DUAL BOOT of Course) I followed your instructions to the letter. Once all the files have been copied and it reboots before the installation starts, I get an Error saying to click CTRL ALT and Delete to reboot. I can't get past that point to install Win XP Pro. The only option is to click onto any key to boot to the CD/DVD. I have my cmos set to boot from the CD/DVD. It won't start the extraction and installation sequence to get Windows XP Installed. I have to do a recovery to get back into Win 7 afterwards and set everything back to the settings before I tried to get Win XP to boot by making a dual partition in Win 7 and install on its own partition. This is ODD. I even used a brand new Win XP Pro OEM operating disk and two other Win XP operating disks, so I know it's isn't the software. Are you sure you haven't left out something in your instructions I would need to know to get past this error issue to continue the Win XP Pro operating system install?

I have 2 PCs with Vista Ultimate it on and I bought 2 "upgrades" (or downgrades - you decide) to Windows 7 Home Premium (I never use Bit Locker and only need English). When I bought the upgrades (Amazon.com), it stated that I can do this upgrade.However when I attempted to upgrade it stated that I can only do a reinstall. Can I purchase an upgrade from 7 Home Premium to 7 Ultimate that works at pre install oris there a work around? There is nothing I hate more about Windows than having to reinstall applications, drivers, and updating the registry.

Any one got an idea on how I can have the RTM allow me to upgrade to Wind7 home premium from my current Win7 ultimate? I don't want to do a clean install as I got tons of stuff installed on it. Is there an ini I can edit or something so it allows this upgrade? Currently it starts, I select home premium, then upgrade and then get a message saying it's not allowed to upgrade to that version. Any advice?

I am a student and I recently purchased Windows 7 Professional through the $30 student program. However, I have been running the beta and have heard that there are some issues regarding upgrading from Beta which is the Ultimate edition to a lesser edition (ie Pro). I have access to a copy of Windows 7 Ultimate... but I don't have a genuine key for it, however I do have a genuine windows 7 Pro key. Will the windows 7 Professional key activate windows 7 Ultimate?

We need to update our server from Windows 7 Professional to Windows 7 Ultimate in order to use BitLocker. The only upgrade we could purchase was the Windows 7 Ultimate Anytime Upgrade. We cannot get the key to work. Is this because the upgrade is intended to go from Home Premium? Is there a more appropriate upgrade sku for our situation?
