Backup Options Do Not Respond
Nov 4, 2009
When I go into "Backup & Restore Your Files" & try to use any of the "Backup" features/selections, none of the selection options respond. "Manage Space" "Turn on Schedule" & "Change Settings" do nothing when I click on them? The "Backup Now" button also is unresponsive.

I was trying to back up data from office to home via VPN connection. All PCs running Windows 7 for both ends. I have a batch file that uses Robocopy to perform "incremental backup" from the office to home. Here is the example robocopy c:/sharedFiles "\192.168.1.10myHomesharedFiles" /E When I run the batch file, the VPN connection was fine. So the VPN was not the issue.I found it strange that every time I run the batch file. It uploaded the same file again and again. I was pretty sure it already did it but it marked it as newer and did upload the file again and again. This is a waste of bandwidth.I am tempted to use /mir but this option is very risky as I could have important files deleted by accident.By my understanding, option /E should do the job as it only copies the modified files as well as new files and empty folders. That's what I want to do.

Windows 7 SP1 NTFS..I'm trying to create an image as I did with Norton's Ghost in XP and later when I used Norton's Save & Restore in Vista where the entire contents on my C: drive was backed up.In Windows7 Backup & Restore it's a little ambiguous where it saves in steps. I've viewed all options which are: I selected " Create an Image" on the left side of the first dialog box. This gives me these selections which are pre-selected and can not be changed: I don't want to do incremental backups where data is added automatically later. All I want is a one time only backup which creates an image of my entire C: with... Program Files, Registry, System Files, Boot sector, Partition table, etc..

I have 3 desktop PC's and a laptop. One of the desktops is currently setup as a server with 10tb of storage space. All of the computers run on the same network. I would like to be able to automatically backup personal data (photos, downloads, documents) to the server.I tried SyncToy but kept running into problems with my passwords. It is a secure network but there is more than just me using it so my personal computers are all password protected so that other people on the network can't access them.I would like to stay away from "cloud: type storage as I have more than enough storage space on my server, plus I would like to avoid having to transfer files to and from the internet as my bandwidth has a monthly useage cap.

Today I booted up my Samsung laptop wanting to begin gaming. Instead of being met with the game client menu I was met with a not responding client. This happens to almost all of the programs on my computer. It affects google chrome, control panel, and even sound mixer. I noticed that my computer also will not shut down without assistance. It gets stuck at the circle saying shutting down.

My computer doesn't respond after a few minutes of logged on. I can't find a fix for it and don't know what's causing it. i don't have much startup programs and whenever it freezes, the cpu useage is low so there isn't a program that's using all of my cpu.

windows will stop responding after I click something. I tried using ctrl alt delete, but the screen would just turn black and give me a message saying "failure to display security and shut down options". Everything was fine with my desktop before and it's still new. Just bought it a few weeks ago. This started happening yesterday when I tried to add songs to this free mp3 player I got. The system said that the mp3 player malfunctioned and started making a sound, the sound that you hear when you repeatedly insert and remove a USB. I swear everything on my pc is legal and that there are no viruses. I tried scanning the pc in safe mode of any corrupted files and there was only one, but a message said that the file was fixed

As an employee of Home Depot we have a website we can enter from our home computer to access our weekly hours, pay benefits, etc,. I have been using this for months. As of last week my log in page will not allow me to enter this site. I have tried everything I can think of to correct this. I've called the tech support at the Home Depot. We have reset and changed the password three times. The Tech can access the site from his side and I can go to a different computer and access it. I just can't access it from my home computer. I have a Windows 7 64 bit operating system. Question? why did it work for eight months and then quit working? Last try Feb 28 2011.

I just bought this keyboard (Colours IT Multimedia Office Pro Wired Keyboard with Speakers & Mic Built In PS/2 - KB-8108 - Scan.co.uk) because it's a brilliant price and has many useful buttons as i'm starting to use skype more. The problem is that some of the skype keys do not work and some do the same as others. I love the built in mic and although the speakers are a nice addition I use external ones. I pressumed that becuse it functions on XP it should also do so on Windows 7.I cannot find any website supporting this keyboard for up to date drivers and the driver disc only supports up to XP.

I have bought a used computer having windows 7 installed. It had a Hitachi LG combo drive, but it was not working, so I replaced it with a Samsung one. I have checked it on another computer. It was working fine there but it is not working on my PC. It does not show any exclamation mark in device manager. It just read the cd/dvd but does not respond. I have already done with the registry fix and also tried the auto fix from Microsoft site, but nothing worked for me.

I have a Acer Aspire One 722 netbook and there are times when the system hangs and does not respond. The cursor does not move and there is NO option to "Restart Windows Explorer"( a common option when your system hangs). I am waiting for this to show (about 10 mins) but nothing happens. Only a beeping sound is heard from my system but it does not came from the inside of the laptop but from the audio speaker. The only thing I would do is to restart it manually(by pushing the restart button). Now my files had not been saved. But, fortunately the unresponsive instances does not happen every time I switch on my netbook.

Upon booting up my laptop, everything seems fine at first. My desktop loads as does any startup programs as normal for a good few minutes until the startup procedure is finished, then simultaneously any programs I have open fail to respond and after a few more minutes my operating system fails to respond. Between the time of the programs and the operating system failing to respond, I cannot execute any other programs nor can I lauch task manager (CTRL+ALT+DELETE etc.). A while after the operating system fails to respond this error pops up, no doubt as a response to me trying to open task manager:"Failure to display security and shut down options. The logon process was unable to display security and logon options when CTRL+ALT+DELETE was pressed. If the operating system does not respond, press ESC or restart the computer by using the power switch."
All this occurs without fail everytime I boot up as normal.I can boot up my laptop in Safe Mode with success which has allowed me to try a number of things but I am no computer tech so my knowledge is slim to none. These are what I have tried:
1) I have run anti-virus and anti-malware programs which came back clean.
2) I have tried to go back to a system restore point but apparently I have none.
3) I have tried a clean boot up (with only Microsoft start up procedures) but did not help, just made my OS fail to respond almost instantly as my desktop loading instead of after a fair amount of time.
4) I have 'restarted winsock' on a forum suggestion from another post it may be a particular virus and rebooted but this did not help.
5) I have turned off UAC and rebooted incase something was making changes causing Windows to fail to respond from another forum suggestion. This did not help either.
6) Rebooted with last known working configuration option.
I should also point out I have not recently added any hardware or software that could make this occur. However, maybe the last 3 things I did before the problem occured could help explain. Firstly, I ran a full anti-virus scan with AVG which removed a rootkit and deleted something 'malicious'. After that I used AVG PC tuneup to clean the registry, defrag and clear junk files. Lastly, I tried to run Steam which froze on an update and I tried to restart my laptop, which froze on the "Logging off..." screen for ages by which time my laptop battery must have died. After this the problems arose.
I really want to avoid anything which might have to result in my reinstalling Windows 7 as my laptop came with it pre-installed so I do not have a Windows 7 disc or a OS backup.
Laptop:- Sony Vaio VPCEA3M1E, Intel Core i3.
OS:- Windows 7 64bit Home Premium

I am currently experiencing a troubling issue with a WD Caviar HD. It was installed as the only HD on a Dell machine that after falling on the desk (from vertical to flat) decided it was tired of booting normally.I took out the hard drive, attached it via SATA to a working Win 7 Pro machine. If I leave the SATA cable connected the system won't boot, I assume it is confused which HD to boot from, but if I boot into my Win 7 Pro from the working HD and then connect the SATA cable, the system becomes very slow to respond. I wanted to see if any data could be recovered, so I checked if the system could see the HD and it turns out sometimes it can and sometimes it can't. Also when I force various programs and utilities to update the list of mounted disks the system becomes VERY slow. As an example I am currently trying to run EaseUS Partition Manager, it has been updating system information for over a half hour and counting...The drive does not make any clicking noises and it seems to spin up correctly.

I recently installed Windows 7 RC on a 1.5TB hard-drive first. Then installed Ubuntu. During system startup and on the boot manager screen (where one can select the OS to load) - the screen simply does not respond to any key input. I can't select the OS that I want to boot up. Instead it always boots up the default Windows 7 after the wait time of 8 secs.

My laptop is very slow to respond, like about 5 minutes, after being hibernated for a long time. If it is just put to 'Sleep' then it is almost instant likewise if it is suspended (hibernated) for less than a day or so then again it is instant once the Unlock screen appears.

It freezes, and sometimes when I wake it from sleep mode, the monitor light just blinks on and off but the monitor itself does not come on. I look at my mouse and keyboard, which are illuminated and notice there is no light meaning they are not detected by my tower. I try many ports and still no response. I reboot my PC a few times, then it works. The laptop is an i7 with 8GB of (some kind) ram, Win 7 64bit, etc.Boot and load times are not an issue, however with nearly any program, be it Excel or Photoshop, mouse inputs are beyond slow. I have to hover over a button for a second before it even highlights. It seems that if the programs are open for a little while that it is somewhat better, but still not acceptable for how new the computer is. CPU usage and memory usage are very low and no particular process seems to be hogging resources and causing the issue.I have formatted and completed a new install within the month, ran the computer with minimal programs installed, with all drivers and windows updates installed with no change. It's not a virus or any kind of malware. I have tried various sizes of virtual memory/ paging file with no change either. I've tried another set of memory modules with perhaps a slight improvement, but it could have been the placebo effect as well. My gaming rig I built works perfectly with none of this nonsense, but I can't figure it out aside from blaming it on something that HP has installed, or with its proprietary drivers that are causing some conflict.

I have noticed on websites that have an contact via email that nothing happens when double clicking it, other than seeing mailto: appearing on FF status bar.At other times I have seen it produce an error window in Outlook saying script isn't running/ Outlook client isn't installed properly. On second bootable drive, with Win XP Pro and Firefox with same Outlook 2003, it works flawlessly. Even if Outlook isn't open, it will start it up straight into new message with correct email address in the To field.

I use an Asus Bamboo U43 series running Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium x64. I was using it as usual and what I thought was a normal update occurred. When computer went into a typical update restart, upon reboot a black screen with a blinking cursor appeared (normal for start-up I know) but then the cursor dropped down a few lines as a cursor would do if you hit enter a few times, and that is it. The computer will not continue to the windows start-up screen. Pressing F8 or F9 during reboot does not respond. I can us ESC or F2 options and that is it.

Then, I restart the computer. Now, I see many of my desktop icons missing and also my documents missing. However, those documents are availble in a folder called UsesDell folder in C drive. Apart from these problems, the fonts of the internet explorer has changed and its like using a new computer where I have to install programs again.

I have recently (After yesterday's Windows Update) gotten a weird problem.
As I log in normally to my computer, the Network Sharing Center doesn't respond, nor does the icon down in the taskbar. I have tried the solutions you can find by googling to fix this - none helped.
That is not everything, every application that wants to use Internet connection freezes as they try to do so.
I got it fixed temporarily by using the System Restore to restore the system to the point before the Windows Updates were applied, but that is not an option anymore, because the restore point is no longer there.
Windows does not let me uninstall updates in Safe Mode, and as Windows Update accesses Internet to do so - it too freezes during a normal login.
Any suggestions?
