Nov 18, 2010I've recently migrated from Windows XP Pro to Win 7 Ent and now I see that it's not possible to Ctrl+Click on taskbar to select multiple windows and then e.g. close them all via context menu. I'm wondering if this is something that can be configured in Win 7 just like it worked in Win XP?

Nov 10, 2011I recently upgraded my FF 7.0.1 (or whatever the most up-to-date version of 7 is/was) to 8.0 and am noticing an issue. The problem I am experiencing is that when I launch FF (regardless if its done via the start menu or the button pinned to my taskbar), it adds a separate taskbar button (a la previous versions of Windows) instead of how Windows 7 normally handles such things. In addition to this, it also does not reflect having multiple tabs/windows open on the taskbar button (the attached image shows how the button for IE(9) displays the different tabs I have open in it, as well as the vertical lines next to the button which represent the number of tabs/windows open; however, the Firefox button does not function in either way, but you can see in the image that I have 3 tabs open in the browser window).Are these compatibility bugs between Windows 7 and Firefox (that the Mozilla devs need to address)?

Right now, if I close one, the other open ones "auto minimize" I know this is an option as I've seen it operated the way I want it.

Like thisI despised that 'scroll' feature, and I was wondering if there might be a way or two, to expand that list to, say 2 or 3 column? So, there would be no need for the scroll thingy, and viewing/finding a particular window would be much, much easier.

Jan 16, 2012I recently purchased a second monitor and now have two working at the same time. It lets me have a lot more windows open at any given time, but since the windows task bar is only displayed on the main monitor it gets very clustered when I open all the windows I need. This makes it hard swapping between windows, especially when I'm working on the secondary monitor and have to move the mouse over to the primary to pull up a window that's behind all the others.
I'm wondering if there's a way to extend the task bar across both monitors? I've looked in the properties of both the task bar and the nvidia control panel, but found nothing.
Pin Multiple Documents To Their Host Program On Taskbar?
Dec 15, 2011It used to be that I could pin multiple documents to their host program on the task bar, and I could run more then just the program itself, for example with good chrome I could right click and choose to open a new window, a new incognito window and a few other options. I did some windows updates a little while back and all the other options have disappeared as well as my ability to pin files to programs. I was wondering if there was a way to get that back since it was super convenient to have. Most programs used to have many options and recent files, etc. Now this is the most I ever get for any program.

Nov 30, 2009i have Outlook 2007 pinned to my taskbar. i have notification behavior set to Hide icon and notifications. I have Outlook set to Hide When Minimized.k, so, whenever i want to see Outlook, i simply click the pinned shortcut on taskbar. when i want to hide it, i click the same icon, and it disappears and goes back to the small pinned icon form. i repeat if i want to see outlook again.... however! doing this, i noticed that each time i click the pinned icon, it is loading a new instance of Outlook 2007.i realized this when i saw the notifications area, and realized there were multiple Outlook 2007 windows available. (right clickign the notifications icon displays the "Open Outlook" button, not as a link, but as a menu.)how can i prevent taskbar from loading multiple instances?

Mar 26, 2011Im having a major computer issue right now. I am using a AMD Phenom II Hexcore.I have been using my setup with this processor for 3 months without any issues at all. Then one day, my computer decides to shut down randomly... I tried restarting it, but it wouldnt get past BIOS before it shut down. The same thing would happen each time, but at random time increments. It turned out my processor which should be running at 60-65 C is running at 75 C stable. I got lucky one time and logged in, and checked the clock speed- the processor was switching randomly between 800 mhz and 3600 mhz every couple seconds, while not working on any tasks(no applications running).

Multiple Users On Multiple Windows 7-64bit Systems?
Feb 13, 2013We have three medical clinics and the front desk staff float from clinic to clinic depending on their schedule. I only started here a few months ago and I am working on upgrading their Dell xp systems to Windows 7 systems.The problem begins to crop up when say a user named Sally will come in and sit down at this system for the first time.. Well, she needs to login, click on outlook icon, let it find her exchange PST and copy settings to her user profile, then she launches the application for the scanner that she uses to scan in ID's and insurance cards for every patient coming in.. The scanner is set to default settings and needs to be tweaked on color depth and double sided, etc.. Then after that, she needs to launch her Medical EMR application.. and then choose various options in the citrix client, ..TL;DR - Each user needs to spend 20 minutes resetting the defaults at this updated system.
Well this is fine except, I am planning on updating 2 front desk systems at each clinic, the user Sally will need to do all these things EACH time she finds herself sitting down at a system I just swapped out the previous evening.My thought is this, put a single system down in one clinic and let it sit a week giving most of the float users a chance to work on it for a day, setting all of their preferences etc.Once I get a bunch of them with user profiles on the local drive, grab an image of that drive and just deploy that to each system I roll out..Couple issues I am running into:First would be that I would have to register each Windows 7 copy with a new serial, which I have The next issue is, we have a mis-mash of Dell optiplex systems. 330's - 380's even a couple 320's..
Multiple BSOD At Random Times With Multiple Drivers Identified?
Nov 13, 2011I am trying to get my wife's new computer up and running without any BSOD or program failures. Note that the system was not initially set up to capture the dmp files so all the earliest ones are missing. I presented the initial problems to the original seller who recommended sticking with MSE and uninstalling Norton 360 and I did that. Another forum suggested that Virtual Memory was the problem and I disabled and restored VM. Still having multiple crashes and I am hoping that I can get real help here. I do note that all the crashes have ntoskrnl.exe in the driver stack although sometimes alone and sometimes with other drivers.[CODE]

Working With Multiple Monitors Does Not Allow Multiple Desktops
Sep 7, 2012I have attached a second monitor to my laptop which runs Windows 7, however, I need to set different resolutions for different monitors, because the display does not fit to fill the screen on both monitors.
It is also noted that the display is replicated, and I would like to have the effect of having different desktops e.g. being able to use different applications such as debugging code on one monitor on an IDE such as Visual Studio, and, viewing the browser on the other monitor.
Currently it does not seem possible since the behavior seems to be that the same resolution is replicated on both monitors.

Jan 3, 2013So about a month ago I restarted my computer and when it came back on all my programs pinned to my task bar and everything that was in my start menu was gone. From there I could not unlock the taskbar and nothing would pin in either the start menu or taskbar. I researched everywhere about it. I tried unlocking the taskbar in properties and registry with no luck. I finally found some posts about how my user profile was corrupt and from there I went on and made a new profile and copied everything and BOOM it all worked fine now. Well today it happened AGAIN! I restarted my computer and everything disappeared. So I think it is still a corrupt profile, but this is the second time it has happened.

Jan 16, 2013I have a client that has laptop with windows 7 Pro. He had a faulty network card, so I have added a new, usb network card. That said, He can not pin anything to taskbar or start menu. I cleared both folders of shortcuts(567 of them) but to no avail. He also has no options under his desktop Context menu for New. He is also using a roaming profile, of which I will disable next time I am there. I have a feeling that might be the issue. I did scour the internet trying all the usual suggestions, but do vaguely remember something about an entry in cache somewhere that if it is too big or corrupt, it could cause this behavior. I am unable to find that post anywhere now.I mention the network card because one post had taskbar issues until he disabled his faulty network card. I have disabled the faulty network card.

Oct 31, 2009I'm having a bit of trouble trying to get two monitors, a small 1024x768 LCD, and a 46" 1920x1080 TV, to display the same wallpaper at different resolutions. My graphics card is older, a Nvidia Quadro FX 1700, but it is perfectly capable of driving both displays at the same time. It's a minor annoyance, but I'd like to get it working if it's possible.

When I tried to put another program onto the taskbar, called minecraft_server.jar, it pinned to the Spiral Knights icon, even though SK isn't installed anymore. Aug 13, 2012Yesterday, the task bar and Start button mysteriously disappeared.I've also found that the "Taskbar and Start Menu Properties" windowdoesn't come up. There are two places to click on in Control Panelthat should bring up this window, but it doesn't. The Control Panelborder changes color as if something is starting to happen, but thennothing happens, possibly indicating that some program starts to runbut then finds something wrong and exits. I didn't see anythinginteresting in the error logs. The desktop icons appear normally.The problem exists only when logging onto my son's account. When Ilog on as administrator, the task bar and Start button appearnormally.The usual tricks don't work: Ctrl+ESC, or bringing up Task Manager andtrying to rerun explorer.exe. I tried sfc to check for corruptedfiles, but none turned up. I ran an AVG scan and it did find one fileit considered a threat, which it removed, but that didn't solve theproblem.
I found a web site that referred to the registrykeyHKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionPoliciesExplorerwhich has a NoSetTaskbar value that can be used to disable the"Taskbar and Start Menu Properties" window. On the administratorlogin, the Explorer subkey is there all right, but doesn't haveNoSetTaskbar. (It does have NoDriveTypeAutoRun.) But when I log ontomy son's account, the Policies key had no subkeys at all. I triedadding an Explorer subkey without adding any values, but this didn'tsolve the problem. I haven't yet tried adding a NoDriveTypeAutoRunvalue, but since this seems to pertain to AutoPlay it didn't seemrelevant to this problem.Any thoughts as to what might be going on or what might fix it?

But When i open Internet Explorer Window it opens a new window in first time and the IE icon in task bar is filled with IE windows, If i want to open another IE window, I have only 2 choices :
1. Open New window using File menu or
2. Right click IE Window on task bar and clicking IE.
Any one tell me how to open new IE window when first IE window is open, like opening multiple IE windows by clicking IE icon in taskbar.
