Acer desktop PC will not boot running on windows 7. This happenned about 2 days after I installed an antivirus program called Avast. However the computer already had installed the microsoft security essentials, the same problem happenned with my computer so I logged in safe mode and uninstalled the antivirus Avast. However when I try to get into safe mode in this desktop computer, the system gets frozen and the last line it shows its the disk.sys driver being loaded. Anything I can do?
so my just over a year old laptop fell off of my bed today. When trying to turn on the black acer screen comes up and a few seconds later it restarts. I have tried f 8, just beeps, f 12 still nothing but beeping, alt 10 same. I have tried removing the harddrive and starting it, still nothing. I then tried removing the ram one at a time, still nothing. Could the mother board off went bad?
i bought this acer 5333 and it was having windows 7 and then i installed windows 8 preview on it,and one day i was repairing files and it took so long than expected to thought it have forzen ,so i forced it to restart and the moment i tried to switch it on again it start to restart just after displaying the acer log and says press f2 to enter setup and if i press f2 or any key its not responding so it automatically restarts and i have to remove the battery for it to stop restarting.anyone with help on how i can fix this, some have said press alt and f10 ,but non of the keys are working .
My Acer Aspire running Windows 7 and using an ethernet cable can't find an internet connection. It was working fine then I downloaded a pre-loaded version of Microsoft Office 10 suites and the next time I tried to get online the connection was gone. I didn't download the Office from the internet so I can't imagine it is a virus but I don't know what could have happened.
Acer aspire 5750 laptop ( about 9 months old ) Wireless Internet with 'excellent' signal strength on internet Windows 7 Home Premium
The problem I'm getting is that constantly now the laptop losing its internet connection (goes to limited connectivity) or cannot connect then when i try troubleshooting/diagnosing/open the network center as soon as i run the troubleshooting etc the laptop freezes then the only way it will work again is to turn it off and back on, I would then get an internet connection again, sometimes for half an hour but often no more than five minutes.
I'm pretty sure the wireless Internet is not the issue as the fault occurs exactly the same at - My house - Girlfriends house - and has also happened when using a friends wireless at his place So the same internet connection fault occurs at three separate connections which leads me to believe its the laptop playing up.
I have a server (HP Proliant ML350 G5) that has a hard disk with Windows 7 Enterprise and Ubuntu (I'll talk about that on UbuntuForums, though). I recently acquired a Dell Dimension 9150. I moved the hard disk from the server to the Dell. Now Windows won't boot. It gets as far as the OS selection. I select Windows 7 from the OS choices. I don't even get the Starting Windows screen. If I try Safe Mode, I get the driver loading screen, but nothing more than that. When I try Startup Repair, it hangs at "Loading Windows Files".I cannot re-install windows because of programs and admin tools found on that hard disk.
I got an acer travelmate 6465WLMi running 64-bit Windows 7 and after some digging around I managed to get the smartcard and 4 in 1 cardreader to work with drivers from a different travelmate. Only problem I have now is that I can't find any 64-bit drivers for the fingerprint sensor. When I went to check the first time device manager showed it as an SMSC fingerprint sensor but checking their site didn't assist at all, any working driver? ([URL] didn't work although one site mentioned they're used in acer laptops...
Per microsoft I need to do try a repair install from original disk. Is there a difference between running repair install from Windows or booting from original disk then selecting upgrade install? Is one or the other preferred? Directions say both attempt to preserve installed programs, but not all drivers, and both require reinstalling all the 60 or so windows updates released after my disk. so no differences there.
I ran into a problem with a friend of mine. She was having problems with her computer trying to run programs when her computer desktop was running in basic mode and not in Aero mode. There was 2 accounts on the computer one in Aero and one in basic. When she logon on to the one in Aero everything ran fine. When she logon on to the one in basic her account. Everything she tried to run didn't work or couldn't change or update.
I ask her if she always ran it in basic and she said she had never change the desktop. As soon as we change it back to Aero than everything was fine. I might be wrong but you should be able to run in the basic mode with no problems right. Does Win 7 change all the programs to run in basic mode and do you have to setup those programs to run right in basic mode. Or is this a commom problem with Win 7.
A failing laptop with Windows 7 installed on the internal HDD A computer with Ubuntu currently installed on the internal HDD (it's free!) An enclosure and USB cable for the laptop hard drive
What I'm trying/want to do:
Put the laptop HDD in the enclosure, connect via USB to the desktop, boot Windows 7 on the desktop from the enclosure and use all the currently installed programs on the laptop HDD with their current settings.
What happens:
With the HDD in the enclosure and connected to the desktop, I power up the desktop. Going straight to the boot menu, I select the new option which is labelled something like "USB-HDD0". "Starting Windows" appears as expected, followed after a bit by the logo, but then the desktop restarts before reaching anything the blue patterned default screen before login options.
Extra info:
When I replace the laptop HDD back into the laptop and boot, everything still works fine. Windows Startup Repair cannot find a problem (big surprise!) If possible I'd like to avoid the hassle of clean installs etc.
I recently purchased a new Acer D270 netbook and observed that its fan is continuously running. Although fan was not making any audible noise at all i thought of using Acer Aspire One Temperature Monitor and Fan Control software even though it mentioned to use the software at your own risk I installed it on my netbook. Now as soon as I ran it my fan speed increased 2 to 3 times the original speed. So, I uninstalled it and restarted my netbook. Now I am observing that even after uninstalling it my fan is running at a `faster speed(may be 1.5 times)` than when I had not installed it. why am I observing this behavior in fan speed and what can be done to reverse the effect of the software.
I am using Windows 7 and my recycle bin icon is missing from my desktop. Doing the "right click on the desktop, personalize, change desktop icons, check the recycle bin box" doesn't work. Is there anything else I can try?
For the past few weeks I have noticed my laptop becoming slower and slower. As of a few days ago it has been ridiculously slow and is sometimes unresponsive to commands or keyboard. It used to go straight to a black screen with only the cursor after start up but now sometimes starts up, although very slow. Now my desktop started doing it too. I don't know what's going on with them. I had not had any virus protection for a while and recently installed webroot complete 2012 on both of them and scanned, finding nothing. My desktop sometimes loads into safe mode when I tell it to, however it still is extremely slow, SAme with he laptop. And if I try to start up the desktop on normal is stays on black screen. I have noticed that sometimes I will get the "Microsoft windows isn't responding" pop up. My control alt delete doesn't work on either of them either, it pos up suing something like " the control alt delete function could not be started blah blah blah".
I wasn't sure what sub category to put this under because I'm not sure where the problem actually lies Windows boots but almost every time it does I get to a blank screen with just my desktop background. No Icons or anything. I am not even allowed to bring up the task manager because ctrl+Alt+Delete will not work.
The only thing I am able to do is right click because the mouse still works which gives me the typical functions of right clicking on the desktop. No other programs or services will work other than that.
I have a Dell XPS 8300 that IS registered and it is practically out of the box. This issue has been occurring since I purchased the computer three weeks ago. The issue was happening before and after all the critical updates so I am assuming their is no built in fix yet.
I have browsed a lot of other similar topics about icons disappearing, however I cannot interact with my desktop at all. If their is a quick fix link or something I should do please let me know.
If you need any additional information please let me know, this is my first time on these forums so I'm not exactly sure what is required.
I just got this new laptop! And its running slow like its an old laptop, I have windows7 starter, [just putting that out there] So yeah it runs slow, and choppy, and freezes when I get on the website, and I have to wait for it unfreeze, and then load correctly.
My desktop appears to be running on speed!I switched it on, and that startup screen with the four coloured windows logo, is flashing like mad. The next screen I get is the password screen. On here, the cursor is spinning like mad. When I try to enter the password, pressing the first letter fills the input box with characters. I don't know whether this is the character I have just entered, although I guess it is. If I try to delete the characters, pressing backspace deletes all characters in the input box. Pressing the first character goes through it all agaiin.I now have a desktop that I can't get into because of this. Nothing new has been added...software or hardware. Everything has functioned as normal prior to this.
really have never seen anything quite like this. When I boot up my PC and it gets to the desktop, a program window pops up and the mouse and keyboard will not work. Therefore, I cannot clear the program from the desktop or go anywhere to run scans or the like to see if the problem is virus related. When I go into safe mode, it does the same thing. I tried restoring to last known configuration with no System Restore shows no restore points. I can't do anything including get you information on my PC. I am running Windows 7 32 bit on a HP/Compaq DC 7600 C/PD 950. I am running Avast Anti-Virus Suite Pro. Regardless once on the desktop, I can not go anywhere. What the heck? Right now I am working on my laptop.
so I got a new laptop and can't figure out one of the tweaks I installed on my old laptop... to copy it to the new one. What it is: Windows 7 would start up to the Login screen, but would continue booting to the desktop (in the background), essentially turning the Login screen into a Lockscreen.Since there seems to be no icon for it (or I can't find it at the moment)... I don't remember what it's called or where it's loaded, how to find/download it again, etc. I've tried googling a couple times... It was just nice to start the computer, walk away... then come back and log in...right to a fully loaded desktop...without waiting for everything to load up.
is there anyway to run 2 desktop in one computer like, have one desktop with my work and other with everything else and when i need to check bout my work or anything else i just switch between them.is there a way to do this in without having two monitors.
I purchased an Acer refurbished desktop from tiger direct.it keeps freezing up, I need to control, alt, delete to get off the page. Nothing moves until I do.
over ther past couple of weeks i have been having a problem with IE when some web pages would not open. after refreshing the pages, they would eventually come up. a problem i could live with. i was also having a problem with my thumb drives. it seems i was able to open them on my laptop, but when i went to another computer, they would not open some of the files on them. on another desktop, as soon as i plugged int the thumb drive, it showed there was a virus on them. so i threw the thumb drives out. i installed a new thumb drive, and decided to do a Norton scan, and also a MSE scan on the thumb drive. the Norton showed W32.silyFDC, and the MSE came back with 4 trojons(i should have writen them down). i cleared up the virus on both. when i started my compter this moring and opened up IE, Norton webpage opened(yahoo is my default) and said that my default homepage was ereased. i now also notice on my desktop 2 icons of "desktop.ini". also when i run malwarebytes after about 4 mins or so, it freezes up "not responding" and i have to close it out.i did a full norton run on my computer this morning and it came back clean. but i suspect that there is something still going on that MBAM stops running after 4 mins.
In the 'open with' context menu, I accidentally changed the running program for ALL the icons on my desktop (ie. the tickbox below the 'Other Programs' was checked when i changed the running program for an unknown file). So now, all the icons on my desktop are identical and all of them run using the same program
