Desktop Not Properly Booting 7 Premium 64bit?

Apr 24, 2012

I wasn't sure what sub category to put this under because I'm not sure where the problem actually lies Windows boots but almost every time it does I get to a blank screen with just my desktop background. No Icons or anything. I am not even allowed to bring up the task manager because ctrl+Alt+Delete will not work.

The only thing I am able to do is right click because the mouse still works which gives me the typical functions of right clicking on the desktop. No other programs or services will work other than that.

I have a Dell XPS 8300 that IS registered and it is practically out of the box. This issue has been occurring since I purchased the computer three weeks ago. The issue was happening before and after all the critical updates so I am assuming their is no built in fix yet.

I have browsed a lot of other similar topics about icons disappearing, however I cannot interact with my desktop at all. If their is a quick fix link or something I should do please let me know.

If you need any additional information please let me know, this is my first time on these forums so I'm not exactly sure what is required.

Windows 7 64bit Not Booting Properly - Makes Three Loud Beeps

Oct 6, 2011

For two nights in a row now, my computer makes three loud beeps when I start it up. The it goes into that setup screen where you have to enter F1 to resume. It's weird. The first night, when I got in, I was unable to access my wireless network. I had to get the enryption key to log in. Haven't needed that since setup.

Startup Isn't Booting Properly After BIOS Update

Nov 14, 2011

i went to update my BIOS after one of my games(call of duty: Black ops) was lagging badly and i did everything to reduce lag even though my computer could run it on high settings. BTW the lag was gone after i upgraded BIOS for the game i mentioned above. So a friend suggested that i update the BIOS. i did and then after restart my computer would freeze but when i unplug a usb device from 2 ports grouped together it booted. Today i got the boot until i remove a USB device but now i get crashes in games. it also decided to install printer drivers...again even though the printer has been working fine since the day i installed windows 7 x64 months ago. My version is not a beta or a RC its a full version fully updated with some minor tweaks like UAC turned off but nothing major that would cause startup to fail.i know i dont have a virus or a rootkit. Thats the first thing i checked. This didnt happen till after i updated the BIOS. so here is what i have done so far:Startup repair twice(i chose the recommended option).....neither time it worked it just reverted it back two days.did a antivirus, rootkit, spyware,etc... scan found only small stuff that wouldnt cause this much problems. in other words small stuff that i got rid of easily that is fairly common such as data miners and tracking cookies.also ran combofix....didnt find anything.next did a scan using Advanced windos Care 2 didnt find anything wrong with the disk or anything else.also ran chkdsk also didnt find anything.i ran out of options of stuff to do. i dont mind re-installed windows 7 but kind of want to use that as a last resort.

Windows 7 Home Premium Not Detected Properly

Oct 18, 2010

I performed a rollback on my laptop to factory settings by using the provided tools of Windows 7 to do so, as the backup was extracted from a recovery partition. Windows 7 Home Premium was provided by factory default as my OS. The system information of my machine clearly shows this is the version installed.all seemed to go fine until I started to set up user profiles. I wanted to check the built-in administrator settings throught the local users and groups manager (typing lusrmgr.msc on the start menu search) and the manager shows on its window a message reporting that my machine is not running Wndows 7 Home Premium, also says that this complement (the manager) cannot be used with my current version of Windows. Due to this situation I can't manage account properties.

HP 2175 Printer Not Working Properly Windows 7 X64 Home Premium

Sep 24, 2011

I have an HP 2175 All-in-One printer and I've lost the installation cd. I followed the instructions as provided by the support pages directly from HP. Few things happened. First, most of the features of the printer were not working, such as one-touch scanning. If I'd select print landscape, the document would come out portrait. I tried uninstalling, and doing a fresh install, and I've been getting under the control panel device list multiple copies of the HP2175 printer (Copy 1... copy 2.... etc).

I'd like to know, how do I remove the drivers fully, and try a completely new install again, how do I get all the features to work, and how do I get rid of the extra copies of the device?

Dual Booting WIN7 And Vista Home Premium

May 24, 2009

I posted here earlier (a couple weeks ago) about a painless installation of Windows 7 on a resized C Drive, which I partitioned into into a C Drive (Vista) and W Drive (Win 7).

All was fine until yesterday - I had been able to login into and out of both operating systems without drama - when out of the blue, for no apparent reason, whenever I try and log onto the Vista operating system, it allows me to logon as Rod with my correct password, but after the logon screen I get the "Preparing your Desktop" and and am presented with a Desktop and icons - but not for me! I get a bubble pop up out of the System Tray that says "Windows had trouble loading your Profile and has loaded up a temporary profile. Contact your administrator".

That would be me! I for the life of me don't know what happened. I have created no new users, nor amended any existing ones. Though, when using Windows 7 earlier in the day, I had to give access rights and permissions to All authenticated Users in order to access and use files on a separate (D) Drive.

Will this have screwed up my User Profile and login to Vista? How?

Dual-booting Windows 7 Home Premium And Enterprise

Dec 22, 2011

I received a laptop from my work which is currently running Windows 7 enterprise. Unfortunately, our administrator is a bit on the overzealous side about what to-and what not to block, and the whole "I will watch you through the built in webcam" shenanigans, I'd like to dual-boot the enterprise OS with my own Windows 7 home premium. Is this possible?

Getting DirectX To Function Properly On A Windows 7 64bit OS?

Aug 22, 2011

getting DirectX to function properly on a Windows 7 64bit OS. I have developed a piece of software that utilizes Direct3D. I have tested my program on my computer as well as another Windows 7 64bit machine, and I can see my 3D graphics just fine. However, I tried my program out on a third Windows 7 64bit machine, and my graphics don't display. No errors or exceptions are thrown, but no graphics are displayed. In addition, I've run through dxdiag on the target computer and everything appears to be functioning and enabled. I ran a diagnostic on the graphics card, and everything appears to be working fine there too.

Desktop Icons Not Aligning Properly?

I recently formatted my hard drive and reinstalled Windows on my hard drive and now I have a strange issue. I have align to grid selected (as I did before) and now I cant put icons in the lower row. Whenever I try they always move up about an inch from the taskbar.

Is there a way to change the size of the grid or something? I would like to do this without third party software, as it worked fine before.

Desktop Icons, Not Displaying Properly?

Jul 1, 2011

I recently reinstalled Windows 7 and I copied my old appdata folder. I do not know if this is what is causing the issue, as it was causing invisible icons to be pinned to my start menu.Anyways, my current problem is, when I choose to display my desktop toolbar on the task bar, the toolbar displays my current desktop shortcuts, the sub folders you see when you view the window (ie, libraries, homegroup, network, computer, control panel, user folder, recycle bin) and icons that are not displayed elsewhere, such as a second control panel. What could be the problem and how would I stop the sub folders and second control panel from displaying?I have tried to remove the icons from the desktop folder, but they do not have an option to be removed. I have tried deleting them from the task bar toolbar itself, but it acts as if it deleted it, but they do not go away

Desktop Will Not Shutdown Properly After Using Sleep Mode

Jul 28, 2012

recently, i've noticed that whenever i sleep my computer, attempting to shut it down later does not work. the process just hangs at the Windows 7 screen with the Shutting down...message. i've let it run for 30 minutes one time and nothing happened, still Shutting down... every time this has happened, i end up manually powering off. the computer shows no ill effects on start up (other than the 'your computer shut down improperly' message). i can't find any unusual events in event viewer, either. it shuts down fine when not having used sleep mode. to sum it up: when i power on my computer normally and DO NOT use sleep mode at all between a shut down, everything is fine. when i power on my computer normally and DO use sleep mode at some point between the shutdown, the computer will typically HANG at the shut down screen and not actually shut down. however, what makes this tough to trouble shoot is that sleeping it for 5 or 10 minutes will have no effect on shutting down...but sleeping it overnight (7-8 hours) will. this problem has been occurring for about 3 months now, though i only started noticing the trend recently. i typically shut my computer off during the week and sleep it through Friday and Saturday and then shut it down again on Sunday (now, i shut it down all the time of course). the computer is virus and malware free according to MSE and Mbam. the only thing i can think of that i installed in between now and 2 months ago were various Steam games and graphics drivers updates. my HDD has never given me any trouble, memory is fine, CPU isn't overheating, etc, etc. my specs are Windows 7 (legit copy before anyone asks), 8gb RAM, 2500k, AMD 6950, Samsung Spinpoint 1TB (regular HDD, no SSD).

Unknown Hardware Desktop Won't POST Properly?

Nov 28, 2012

For the last few days, i have had a rather frustrating problem with my system. It doesnt want to POST. Let me explain this; Turning the computer on is a mystery. The initial startup seems pretty standard, except that there is no beep, Fans run at 100%speed for a few seconds, and nothing appears on the screen. If i then turn it off via the ON/OFF button, and start the system anew, it will first turn on for a second, then go off again. Waiting 4-5 seconds, the System "magically" starts itself up, with the same symptoms as mentined before. This all has happened after a recent LAN party, where a power shortage apparently may have been the sinner. Just mentioning, i am writing this using that system, as it can still BOOT using a few primitive measures. Removing the source of power to the computer ( by first removing the power cable, and then turning off the outlet before re-inserting it ) and consecutively turning it on, it will 50% of the time POST and start up as usual.

One thing to note also, is that recently, every time i have / have been opted to save a file on my local hard drive, the system has made a loud BEEPing noise similar to the one coming at the strtup.

When I boot normally, the Startup repair starts running and says it cannot repair the computer automatically, same thing happens when I try to boot into safe mode. I've tried using last known config., and I must of turned off the system restore at some point because it states that there are none to revert back to when I try that. I looked through the Startup Repair Diagnosis and repair details and states root cause found and its these two files.

Booting From Old Laptop HDD In New Desktop Via USB

Jul 13, 2012

A failing laptop with Windows 7 installed on the internal HDD A computer with Ubuntu currently installed on the internal HDD (it's free!) An enclosure and USB cable for the laptop hard drive

What I'm trying/want to do:

Put the laptop HDD in the enclosure, connect via USB to the desktop, boot Windows 7 on the desktop from the enclosure and use all the currently installed programs on the laptop HDD with their current settings.

What happens:

With the HDD in the enclosure and connected to the desktop, I power up the desktop. Going straight to the boot menu, I select the new option which is labelled something like "USB-HDD0". "Starting Windows" appears as expected, followed after a bit by the logo, but then the desktop restarts before reaching anything the blue patterned default screen before login options.

Extra info:

When I replace the laptop HDD back into the laptop and boot, everything still works fine. Windows Startup Repair cannot find a problem (big surprise!) If possible I'd like to avoid the hassle of clean installs etc.

How To Get Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit To Always Show Same HDD

Sep 15, 2011

I have an issue with HDD letters being changed by the operating system. It is highly bothersome that I cant keep each volume letter unchanged so I can identify each one of my 6 hard drives + the Usb drives. I always keep 2 HDD inside the PC tower plus another 4 inside an external enclosure. Additionally I have an external Sabrent USB-DSC5 Hard Drive adapter with one HDD or Optical drive connected to it and the PC.

Is it possible from Windows 7 to set it in such a way that the drives lettering e.g. C E F G H J K etc etc remain linked to each individual HDD? If Windows does not offer that capability how do I solve this need? Is there any known software I could install that deals with this issue and solves it efficiently?
