Dual-booting Windows 7 Home Premium And Enterprise

Dec 22, 2011

I received a laptop from my work which is currently running Windows 7 enterprise. Unfortunately, our administrator is a bit on the overzealous side about what to-and what not to block, and the whole "I will watch you through the built in webcam" shenanigans, I'd like to dual-boot the enterprise OS with my own Windows 7 home premium. Is this possible?

Dual Booting WIN7 And Vista Home Premium

May 24, 2009

I posted here earlier (a couple weeks ago) about a painless installation of Windows 7 on a resized C Drive, which I partitioned into into a C Drive (Vista) and W Drive (Win 7).

All was fine until yesterday - I had been able to login into and out of both operating systems without drama - when out of the blue, for no apparent reason, whenever I try and log onto the Vista operating system, it allows me to logon as Rod with my correct password, but after the logon screen I get the "Preparing your Desktop" and and am presented with a Desktop and icons - but not for me! I get a bubble pop up out of the System Tray that says "Windows had trouble loading your Profile and has loaded up a temporary profile. Contact your administrator".

That would be me! I for the life of me don't know what happened. I have created no new users, nor amended any existing ones. Though, when using Windows 7 earlier in the day, I had to give access rights and permissions to All authenticated Users in order to access and use files on a separate (D) Drive.

Will this have screwed up my User Profile and login to Vista? How?

Downgrading From Enterprise To Home Premium

Jan 21, 2011

I recently purchased a used computer at a very low price. On it was an installation of Windows 7. All seemed to be fine. I cleared out all the old junk, cookies, registry etc. Now I get a window error saying the computer can not verify my copy of Windows Enterprise and I should check with my IT department. I am a single home user with Windows 7 Home Premium on my other pc. I spoke with a local computer store and they said it sounds like the previous owner put a "bootleg" copy of Windows 7 Enterprise on the hard drive. Can I downgrade the Illegal Enterprise edition to my legitimate copy of Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade without losing all the programs and stuff I spent the last week installing on the new used pc?

Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit / Starter 32bit (Partitions) Dual Boot

Jun 23, 2011

I have just purchased a new pc that came with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, which wont run my company software, which was made in 1995, 16 bit. This 16bit software ran fine on my previous pc, which had Windows 7 Starter 32-bit. But the 64 bit Windows 7 version wont run it, I cant use Windows XP Mode on my version of Windows 7, need Pro - Ultimate Version.

I want to install and run the Windows 7 32-bit I have, on my new pc (I still have the installation disk) on a separate partition and keep the 64 bit version to. Is this possible to install both 32 bit and 64 bit versions of Windows 7 and then select which to run when the pc boots?

WIN7 / Vista Home Premium Dual Boot - TRASHING ONE

Oct 20, 2009

I have C Drive 250gb - Vista HP SP2 and, PARTIONED, also a W Drive 250gb - Windows 7 RC7100

Boot Manager list Windows 7 first, which is what I wanted and set via msconfig.

I think I am going to trash my Vista and install a clean Windows 7 on C drive.

I am thinking to do this:

1. From within Windows 7, go to msconfig and reset boot sequence to C Drive

2. Reboot. From within Vista, go to Disk Management and delete the W partition (and therefore Windows 7) and then to resize my C drive to full amount of C/W size (500GB)

3. From within Vista, load in Windows 7 DVD, go to My computer and set off setup.exe & do a clean install...or do I have to change boot sequence thru bios first and reboot to the DVD drive to do this?

I have all discs/drivers for my other applications and they are all working fine on my present Windows 7 drive

Or would I simply do an in-place upgrade?

I know I have to either purchase a new copy or an upgrade copy of Windows 7.

Is my thought process above correct?

Cant Upgrade From Vista Home Premium To 7 Home Premium

Oct 22, 2009

I successfully bought the upgrade version of Windows 7 Home Premium N, downloaded and extracted it and now I want to install it.

When I choose UPDATE in the intallation dialog it tells me that I cannot upgrade from Vista Home Premium to Windows 7 Home Premium ???

Every website from Windows and other people tells me that it IS possible and even the Windows 7 Update Advisor told me that I should not encounter any problems upgrading.

Has anyone of you yet encountered upgrading problems of compatible Vista/7 versions?

Or any other idea what I can do to solve the problem?!

I know that I can make a clean intall of 7, but this would be a pain..

Upgrading From Vista Home Premium To 7 Home Premium?

Apr 17, 2012

Yesterday I was messing around on my brand-new laptop, and I was stupid enough to try a keygen to get Ultimate (I had HP). Surprising. It worked but the copy wasn't genuine obviously. So then I rebooted, pressed F8 at boot. An ran Toshibas recovery to try to get the computer to its out of box state. I got stuck at initializomg (either that or I was impaptient) so I turned off the laptop. Then when I truer to boot I got bootmgr is missing. I have an old vista Hp disk so I installed that for the time being. So my question is, how do I get it back to the original state? I do t have any important data or anything.

Vista Home Premium 32bit To 7 Premium, 62% BSOD

Nov 2, 2009

The original OS was Windows XP 32bit SP3. I upgraded this system to Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit SP2 with no issues.

I then went to upgrade the system to Windows 7 Premium. I chose the "Upgrade" install and not the "Clean" install. I've checked the updater to confirm that all my system information was adequate. I uninstalled the ATI Catalyst Controller, iTunes, etc. that it wanted me to. Oddly enough, the ATI Catalyst Controller was the most recent driver that supports Windows 7.

I checked online to see if the hardware was all supported by Windows 7. The Sapphire Vapor-X video card was not compatible or compatible... it simply wasn't on the list of either. The X-Fi Extreme Gamer said it was NOT compatible... yet, I had a driver for Windows 7 and the Windows 7 Application checker said that my sound card was ready for Windows 7... thus a discrepency.

I went on with the installation. I get to the last step where it resets the computer at 62% and I get a BSOD for about 1/3 of a second. It goes by too quickly for me to capture it. It then restarts the computer instantly with the result of "Upgrade was not completed successfully. Restoring prior OS yadda yadda". I've gone through this about 5 times now trying different things.. keeping the Catalyst controller installed, uninstalling the video card, removing the sound card, etc. Nothing seems to work.

It was recommended to me that I do a clean install... however, I have read that many others have done a clean install and theirs STILL doesn't get past the 62%.

Is it my hardware? Do I need to buy MORE hardware now that 7 is out that is on the compatible list?

Windows 7 And XP Dual Booting?

I'm further confused having read that when up upgrading from XP to W7 using upgrade software, its necessary to do a clean install. Isn't a clean install the same as installing from scratch and therefor a full version of W7 is required?

Dual Booting With Windows 7?

May 17, 2011

I currently have Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit installed on my computer on a SSD drive, and I'm trying to install Windows Server 2003 on a second hard drive (regular SATA II HDD).When I boot with the Windows Server 2003 CD, everything seems to be fine... it pops-up the usual blue screen and the drivers are loading, but once the drivers are done loading, I get this error message:"A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again follow these steps:Check for viruses on your computer. Remove any newly installed hard drives or hard drive controllers. Check your hard drive to make sure it is properly configured and terminated. Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption, and then restart your computer.

Technical informaiton:

*** STOP: 0X0000007B (0XF789EA24, 0XC0000034, 0X00000000, 0X00000000)"

why this message pops-up and prevents me from installing Windows server 2003? Is it possible to have a dual boot with Windows 7 and Windows Server 2003?

I heard you have to shrink your partition to fit the XP installation on (because I only have one hard drive). Is there a tutorial that tells you? Sorry if this all sounds a bit newbish, but I'm not too experienced with this part of computing even though I reformatted my PC about 3 times.

Just what the title says, how do I set up dual booting between Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit and Windows XP MCE 32 bit, with both OSes already installed on two separate HDDs. It has been suggested that I use EasyBCD to add the XP MCE entries to the Windows 7 boot menu. It has also been suggested that when I want to boot into the XP MCE drive, that I change the boot order in the BIOS. Would this still screw up the MBR for Windows 7?

Upgrading 7 Home Basic 32 To 7 Home Premium 64

Jun 22, 2011

I have sort of a special case here. I purchased my HP laptop in Thailand, and much to my chagrin it came installed with Windows 7 Home Basic. In addition, the HP store which sold me the laptop installed 4gb of RAM neglecting to tell me that the 32bit version of 7 only supported up to 3. At any rate, I am hoping to upgrade to Windows 7 Home Premium, 64 Bit edition. But while there is a glut of information online about how to upgrade from Starter, there is little to nothing about Home Basic. Do I have to buy a full copy of 7 Home Premium 64 Bit? Can I buy an Anytime Upgrade that is meant for Starter and apply it to my computer?

Dual Booting Windows 7 Pro 64 On A SSD Drive?

Jun 23, 2012

I was wondering if there are any issue with dual booting Windows 7 pro 64 bit on an internal SSD drive. I currently have Windows 7 pro 64 bit on a 500gb 7200 hard drive plus a backup 1 TB 7200 rpm drive; but I wanted the speed I would get by installing win7 pro 64bit on a 250gb SSD drive. I would basically only install specific essential software like Adobe Premeire Pro and Photoshop, among others. I originally was going to use the SDD drive as a scratch disc but after reading, I thought it might be better to just install Win7 on the SSD drive. This way I could also experiment with what would be the best configuration. I still get confused about scratch disc and how useful they are if you have plenty of memory.

Run XP And Windows 7 On Same Computer Without Dual Booting

Aug 10, 2012

This is what I am attempting...I want some time to learn Win 7's ins and outs...before committing to it. I know how to dual boot...don't want that. If I set up like this image, will I be able to use the F8 boot menu to choose the HDD I wish to boot from...or will I just have to disconnect the XP drives and only connect the Win 7 drive. I want to keep the MBR's totally separate.

I see THREE possibilities:

1. F8 will work and just not SEE the other Windows install...which is fine.

2. F8 will work and Win 7 will try to take over all three drives.

3. F8 will work, but when booted to the Win 7 HDD, will wreak havoc with the drivers, IF it sees the other install.

Dual Booting But Want To Replace XP With Windows 7

Feb 22, 2009

I have been dual booting XP Pro 32-bit and Vista Ultimate 64-bit for some time now but haven't really found a good way to delete XP Pro (my first installed os) leaving my Vista os able to boot up normally. I have scoured the forums and was about to delete a lot of files from the XP partition but leaving the loader files and root files alone. This would enable me to free up a lot of drive space. Currently the 2 os's reside on a RAID setup one partition for XP and another for Vista.

OK so I have found the Windows 7 forums and thinks that it would be good idea to replace XP with Windows 7 but the upgrade options for the Beta do not allow upgrade to Windows 7 from XP.

If I upgraded XP to Vista 32-bit what would happen to my boot files etc etc and could I then further upgrade to Windows 7 leaving that and Vista 64-bit dual booting together?

Or is this a complicated way to do things?

What I really want to do is delete XP Pro - I am rather fond of Vista now and seems very stable. But I do not want to be faced with boot problems after deleting.

I currently have installed on both os's, Acronis's OS Selector and BCD Edit.

I really need a very accurate method rather than a theoretical answer - someone who has done this successfully please. I have spent too long wading through forums looking for a way of successfully deleting XP and receiving maybe this will work or maybe that type of answers.
