Dell inspiron 580 running Win 7, I cannot access DFIR using normal keystrokes. When I hit "repair Computer" it loops me back to same screen. Is there any other way of retrieving this program? The handbook says it is on a hidden partition on the hard drive.

I have got Dell Studio 1558 Laptop. When I received my laptop, the full 480 GB was in a single drive and using device manager i splitted into 3 drives. Now, if I use Dell Restore to factory image option should it have some effect as the original c drive when shipped is currently less. Just want to know this as I will be using this feature.

View 2 Replies View RelatedIve owned a dell studio 1558 laptop for almost 2 years now and have recently been experiencing some overheating issues, among my many solutions "new thermal paste, cleaning the inside" and a virus scan using Avast, which discovered a four digit number of corrupted files followed by their deletion and subsequent problems due to now missing some .dll files making me unable to run anything or access the internet. Ive decided I should restore the laptop to its factory settings which I believe I have done before. The problem now is that once I reach the Advance boot menu using F8, I press enter on the "repair your computer" option which is followed by a bar saying windows is loading files, lasting one second, and then windows loads up and nothing changed.

I want to restore factory image, but can't because original MBR was overwritten a while back.The factory. wim file is in the Dell/Image folder of Recovery partition, but there's no tools folder, so I can't use the "imagex /apply d:dellimagefactory.wim 1 c:" I also created a WAIK v. 2.0 disk with the KB3AIK_EN.iso image on it.

However i'm struggling to establish how to run a factory restore on the new computer? I've pressed F8 when the machine boots up and selected 'Repair your computer' but the only recovery options I have are shown in the image below:
Looking at the 'Disk Management' page I can see a partition called 'RECOVERY' so i'm assuming that I can do a factory restore? One thing that is concerning me though is that Dell have provided a Windows 7 DVD and Drivers and Utilities DVD so i'm worried that i'm expected to reformat the hard drive and install from scratch?
For my dell 1564...i I am looking to restore it. I read previous posts. I get to "system recovery options" and tried the first 3 options for restore/ repair, but nothing..its all restore to previous point, which apparently I dont have even though I made them, and dell cds dont seem to want to load up, in safe mode, reg, hitting f12, f2, f8, ctrl f11 and so on..
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell system studio slim desktop, I used the "reinstallation DVD, windows 7 home premium 64-bit" disk to reinstall. After the reinstallation, when it automatically reboots, the screen starts up where I can press F2 or F12 for boot options but after that and windows logo, it stays on a black screen.
For a little background history, the desktop had a power supply die and I bought and added a new PSU. After that it worked until viruses on my computer forced me to reinstall windows.
previous owner died. Did not leave administrator password behind.i understand I will lose all the photos, etc. That is fine

Now that I want to re-image, I reboot as requested, wait for it to load, and Windows says it can't find my backup, "if it is on a network, close this window , type the network location."Putting in the network location does nothing, I'm just returned to the screen where it would list the backup image if it had found it, but there's nothing there.Thinking perhaps my NAS was the problem I copied the image onto a portable hard drive, but after rebooting into the restore program, Windows 7 doesn't find the USB drive.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have Windows 7 Pro 64 bits SP1 installed. Here's the deal. My system crashed overnight (no one knows why). When it boots back up, it works fine for a while and then Freezes (no more mouse mouvement, no more num-lock light switching on/off). Windows Event is of course empty. I was able to figure out where the source of the problem is. Seems that the whole Restore Point thing is corrupted. Including the Auto part where once in a while it creates a back-up point during boot up. I have tried in normal mode: Accesing the restore to a previous point through Windows normal mode: Freezes every single time when i hit the configure button to remove the Restore point from my C: Drive. Accessing it through CCLeaner and trying to remove a single Restore Point: Freezes. Accessing it through Disk Cleaner, Delete all the restore points. It works... but never ever delete anything.!

How can I move my factory image over to my SSD so I can restore my computer if i need it later on. I have the Windows 7 CD but no driver's or anything else. my laptop (Compaq Presario CQ61) contracted a virus that did some heavy damage. So I go into the boot up menu and decide to restore the laptop back to the factory settings, just to be on the safe side so I can start afresh.Now it's on a screen that says 'Factory image recovery preperation' and it's currently copying files to restore the hard drive, but it's froze on 58%.
Last night I did the same thing and left it overnight while I went to bed, and when I woke up this morning it was still froze on 1%.
Edit: The loading bar is still there, but the place where '58%' was has gone. My mouse is moving but very slowly.
Edit: My laptop is very warm and I can't feel or hear the fan... it's going to overheat. I've had to turn it off.

I am replacing the internal hard drive and I am attempting to install the factory system recovery image from the system recovery disc that I made when I bought the computer. After installing the drive and booting up from the recovery disc, I go into full factory recovery but when I go in to the option to "restore to factory default" the option is grayed out. Do I need to format the drive first? How do I do this outside of windows?
If I do a factory restore, will it wipe the backup that's on a 2nd partition?

When I get to disc 2 nothing happens at all. I do have an external hard drive. I was considering trying to copy the System back up discs from a different computer onto the external and then trying to do the system restore.

I want to restore the comp using the acer feature "restore to factory settings". But I wonder, must I have a Win7-installation CD after the restore?? Because the computer came with preinstalled Windows 7 when I bought it. Keep in mind that it's a factory settings restore not a complete format c (i think) I've done a backup on hardrive "D" of my current system in case of anything going wrong. If a Cd is required, could you tell me another way to format the comp without buying the CD? My security center is damaged, so restore to point doesnt work either. If you got any solutions to how to start security center except setting it to "automatic" in services.msc (Since this doesnt work), please post 'em.
