Runnign windows 7 home prem on dell inspiron 14R. I downloaded all drivers from scratch (the Resource CD wouldn't work) after a fresh install of my copy (not dell's) of windows 7 home prem. For some reason if I make a change to the desktop (add a new folder) it takes about 20 seconds to pop up.

Long Explanation: When starting the computer, Windows will load normally to the desktop with near complete functionality. But there is a delay of 60 seconds while something tries to initialize or load. During this delay the blue spinning circle ("Working") can be seen over the Network icon in the systray, and over the Currency & Weather gadgets, and in Windows Explorer at the major headings.While the "Working" icon is showing I can open the browser and I have internet access. But I can't open task manager or use Windows Explorer until "Working" is done. The condition was first noticed after I uninstalled my old Canon MP780 printer and replaced it with an Epson Artisan 810. The Canon MF3240 was already installed before this change. I always suspected the Epson printer had corrupted something. This weekend I finally got around to removing all the printers, cleaning up, and reinstalling the printers. I reinstalled the Epson first (using correct W7x64 drivers) and all was good. Windows boots right up onto the desktop and everything is connected - no delays. Then I reinstalled the MF3240. Bang - right off - the delay condition.Now, if I unplug the USB cable for the MF3240 and boot (cold or warm) the delay goes away. What do you think is going on here? More Info: The original installation of the MF3240 was done when I first installed Windows 7. I was new to Windows 7 and there was some thrashing about to get the printer set up, I recall. I finally got it working by manually installing the drivers. These were XP-2000 drivers, best I can tell.
The driver I just installed for the MF3240 is MF3200_MFDrivers_Win_x64_us_EN_7 . I got these drivers from the Canon website for my printer, but I can't remember exactly when, but it was a while ago. I never installed these drivers before. Today, on that website, the only Windows 7 driver available is MF3200_MFDrivers_Win_x32_us_EN_7.exe ". Actually, that is the only driver for all Windows OS's. Also, the downloads above do not contain an installer package, only the .inf's and .cab's. If I knew then what I know now, I would plug in the printer, Windows would not find a driver, I will browse to the folder with the drivers, and the x64 drivers are installed. On the reinstall Windows found drivers and installed them automatically when I plugged the printer in. I had to go to the printer's properties and update the drivers to the x64 version. However, the delay condition happens in either version of the driver that I had installed.
My computer's operating system is Windows 7 Professional which is up-to-date and all the drivers are the latest I can find.The start up sequence is being slowed down by protracted activity on the hard disk, after the display of the Desktop, such that the only programme I have set to start at bootup is delayed by up to three minutes. This is the antivirus programme F-Prot Antivirus for Windows 6.A log obtained from msinfo32 shows the following:

As I do not use the Sidebar is it possible that Windows is trying to start it causing the delay? If so, how do I disable the autorun registry entries? I have no recall of how or even if I disabled the sidebar from loading.

The os is updated and all the settings of the os are on default. The settings of videocard are in performance/balanced.
The problem was found in counter-strike 1.6 and Urban Terror 4.1 (its a quake3 mod).
In desktop, without gaming or something else, i see that the mouse has some kind of delay (almost nothing here).
During the gameplay i get lag and slow fps...
I disabled the "DESKTOP COMPOSITION" and the problem was not solved but its better with this crap disabled.
I wanna know if you can tell me if there is some config, drive issue, or something else to make it works without this option disabled.
Im thinking in some option on regedit to make desktop composition stop lagging the opengl games.
Does anybody knows how to solve it without disabling the desktop composition?
I like the face of windows 7 and don't wanna loose it for a game too old.
I deleted the desktop folder in my personal folder and my icons on desktop don t apear anymore now.How can i put it back there?

It shows it's on the desktop when you open the Computer icon and in your browse window it's there. You can select it and it opens up and it's exactly the same as the user folder of the same name.

I am running Active Directory on Server 2008 and redirecting My Documents, Favorites, and Desktop folders to the server. When the PCs go a screen saver and the user needs to login they loose connection to their Desktop icons. Their My Documents, Favorites and all mapped drives all work fine, they only loose Desktop icons. The only way to restore connection is to restart the PC. I have disabled the setting on the network card to allow Windows to put it to sleep, and it seemed to help for about a week. The strange part about this issue is, it doesn't affect all users only about 6.

These duplicates are not copies; what you do to them affects their desktop counterparts. This means I cannot move, rename, or delete them without the desktop files being affected. View 5 Replies View Relatedafter that problem all the pictures were gone i posted it here and couple of forum and nobody was able to know the cause, my computer was apparently clean... but my pictures are gone, i can recover it with any recovery software because thy are kind of marked as deleted or hidden" in such a way that can not be just simply be undone, i must recover one by one. in order to keep the hdd untouched, i had to buy another one (i dont want to open a post just for asking the temperature but is 41-48celcius normal? i know its normal but the hdd sometimes reach the 48 49 and stay there for long minutes then cold down again, the old hdd had a narrow range 40-43)now continuing with the header. since i have a new hdd i had to install Windows 7 and i decide to give it a try to the aero and desktop composition stuffs BUT immediately i remembered that I used to not use by just one thing. use the computer with several windows opened, when i have to switch to another window i put the cursor in the taskbar and i get the list of the opened windows, but when the aero o desktop compositor are enabled i only see the thumbnails, pretty nice BUT just that, cute but awful since does not have folder names (not untill 2 seconds witht the cursor over one thumbnail)
