Dragging A Folder Off The USB Drive To The Desktop?
Sep 12, 2011
was dragging a folder off the USB drive to the desktop. I was dragging the folder up over the "Share Burn.... " menu bar and I must have let off the mouse button. Now the folder is completely gone and I cant find it anywhere? What the H$#@. Any ideas where the folder went?
Why all desktop icons appear in the Desktop folder but not on the desktop itself?I set my desktop to show the Recicle Bin icon only, but if I open the Desktop folder in Explorer they are all there: Computer, Control Panel, Libraries, Network, User's Files, and Recycle Bin.
Recently after updated my windows 7 my desktop folder appear in my pictures folder. When I expand it, I can see my desktop icon in it. Can it be fix or I have to run the hassle to re format?
My system is dragging; do I have a memory leak? I am looking for some good and relatively simple software I can use to detect a memory leak. I'm running Windows 7 and I have to reboot every other day or my physical memory gets too high and significantly slows down the PC. I have used Process Explorer but can't find programs with exceptionally high usage. Everything looks normal. In fact, it almost seems like Windows is using up memory somehow, but doesn't know it, because it doesn't seem like all the running processes add up to the total amount of physical memory in use. Do I have a memory leak somewhere? How can I tell?
Using Vista, I could copy files to another location by dragging the name of the file. On Windows 7, however, when I drag, it moves the file (removing it from the original location). Is it possible to copy the file to another drive by dragging without deleting it from the original location?
All the sudden, when I drag a window now, an about 3px thick inverted color border shows up where the window is and it drags that instead of the actual window, then places it.How can I set it so that when I drag a window, it drags the actual window?
Whenever I click on a object (a file, hyper link, for example), or if I highlight text, when I left go of the left mouse button, it doesn't let go. So if I move my mouse around, it will continue to highlight wherever my mouse goes until I left click again. This never happened until a few months ago on any Windows computer I ever used that I can recall.
This was originally happening on a Windows 7 Home Premium computer, and then I switched to a Windows 7 Professional computer last week and I experienced the same problem. I thought it would be my mouse, so this weekend I bought a brand new mouse, but the problem continues to occur.

My computer does not show contents of windows, diaglog boxes when I drag them. Look like this figure: Then I verify the visual effects settings in Performance Options box (System Properties > Advanced system settings > tab Advanced > click Settings under Performance > tab Visual Effects):Note that I have the option "Show window contents while dragging" checked all the time by selecting "Adjust for best appearance" To let it show the contents, I have to do these:
1. Uncheck "Show window contents while dragging". Click Apply.
2. Select "Adjust for best appearance" again (or check "Show window contents while dragging" again) then click Apply.
when I restart my computer, or shutdown and then start it again, the problem is still: it does not show the contents of dialog boxes or windows when I drag them although the option "Show window contents while dragging" is checked.
How do you drag files out of XP mode and drop them into 7, you can drag files from 7 and put them into XP mode but not the other way around how do you do this?
XP and Vista were simple to reverse, but I cannot find the settings in Win 7. I am constantly moving screens between monitors, but instead of dragging them "from one monitor" to "the other" in a straight motion, I have to drag in the opposite direction, away from the second monitor, to have it appear there.
I have been having problems with my computer not showing the windows contents while dragging. About once every 2 weeks, I will turn on my computer and that function will be disabled. So what I would do is go to Computer Properties -> Advanced System Settings -> Performance Settings, and then check the "Show window contents while dragging checkbox.
Today however, in the last 2 hours, the function has just disabled itself 3 times already. Everytime, I go through the same process to turn it on and it just won't stick for more than an hour.
When I click and drag on the title-bar of a window the window border moves to the new location then when I release the mouse the window springs into the re-located border. This has only started to happen after I changed the partition size of my c: drive. Obviously, some setting has been changed and I have no idea as to how to reset it.
My audio on my laptop is dragging when i am playing music or music videos on it or any videos for that matter. What do i need to do? Is there maybe something i need to download to make the audio play better?

In Xp Pro I was able to turn the navigation pane in the desktop folders without effecting the way windows explorer looks. In Windows 7 home 32bit, any changes made to the desktop folders also effects windows explorer. Is there some kind of a switch that will keep the desktop folders changes from effecting windows explorer?
So here's something weird. On a firends computer, he has a folder on the desktop that appears to be a duplicate of the users folder in the Users folder. It shows it's on the desktop when you open the Computer icon and in your browse window it's there. You can select it and it opens up and it's exactly the same as the user folder of the same name. If you right click it, you don't reaaqlly get anything. It doesn't have a shortcut display either. If you look at the actual desktop, it's not there. Only in the browse window. I finally got fed up and just deleted it and it started deleting the same files in the user folder so I stopped.I would like to get rid of it but I don't know how
I am running Active Directory on Server 2008 and redirecting My Documents, Favorites, and Desktop folders to the server. When the PCs go a screen saver and the user needs to login they loose connection to their Desktop icons. Their My Documents, Favorites and all mapped drives all work fine, they only loose Desktop icons. The only way to restore connection is to restart the PC. I have disabled the setting on the network card to allow Windows to put it to sleep, and it seemed to help for about a week. The strange part about this issue is, it doesn't affect all users only about 6.
I am setting up a desktop machine with C: as SSD and D: HDD. I would like the desktop to come from the contents of D: How can I redirect the desktop folder to come from D:?
I use Windows Explorer heavily. I am constantly moving files and batches of files from one folder to another. I have one very annoying problem with this but I bet there is a way to fix it.Here's what I do - I highlight several files in the right pane, I hold down the right-mouse-button over the selected files, I drag them over to a folder in the left pane, and then the annoyance happens. If I don't drop those files immediately into that folder, the entire list of sub-folders pops open as if I hit the little plus to the left of the folder. What makes this a major annoyance is that the folder I wanted to move into has now changed its position in the left pane because the sub-folders popped open.
Now, sometimes I desperately need the sub-folder list to open because I forgot to find the folder I needed before moving the files. It is a nice feature. However, if only I could increase the delay-time. I'd like to give myself triple the time to drop the files into the folder before the sub-folder list opens. There has to be a registry tweak for this.
i am unable to delete a desktop folder. i cannot move the folder to another folder too. i tried google to find any answer but not yet find. i tried safe mode, unlocker (software) and system restore but none of them works for this problem.the folder was created by camtasia studio 7. when i produced a video file for Internet.when i tried to delete this folder i got the following message:could not find this itemthis no longer located in c:usersusernamedesktop. verify the item's location and try again[code]still i keep looking on internet to solve this problem. if any one you knows the solution of this problem i would be very nice of you,
For some reason, seemingly out of nowhere, everything I put on my desktop appears also as a duplicate in My Pictures folder. These duplicates are not copies; what you do to them affects their desktop counterparts. This means I cannot move, rename, or delete them without the desktop files being affected. It's as though my Desktop were somehow linked to that folder.
I have a folder on my desktop which I used as a temporary location for pictures and videos. Once it was empty I deleted it but every time I open my internet browser it pops up again. I am using Mozilla Firefox and have checked the download settings but this folder is not named in any path that I can see. I also checked WMP but it doesn't appear there either. The only other program I used this folder with was Movavi to convert the video files to MP4 but it's not showing up there either.
Last night I decided to install a game, so I made a folder on my desktop. I finished installing it last night. Today I decided I dont need it any more so, I went to delete it. The file says that I need administrative privillages. Then says u require permission from Owner-HpOwner to make changes to folder. I am the admin though, just got my computer last night, it was pre-owned. Just displayed in the window of future shop, but still pre owned. I changed the account name from owner to corey...
Advanced user new to Windows 7 - I need to copy about 220 MB of files from one folder to two other folders, all on the desktop. In XP, opening the source folder and doing SELECT ALL would give the COPY, MOVE, DELETE options on the left hand of the folder. How best to do in Windows 7? Use the Copy to Clipboard, then Paste to the two other folders? If so, is the Clipboard big enough to handle the copying of up to 1.5 GB in files?
