my computer has been to alot last three days. First I came home, turned on the computer, and zomg! Blue screen at log in. That freaked me out. I tried restarting it, but the screen was just completly black when it came to log in everytime. So I then started trying to fix it. Did all sorts of checks, but nothing worked. Ended up reinstalling vista, but keeping my old files. Then it worked for an hour or so. Next morning, when I started it, this came up: "File:Windows/system32/winload.exe It couldn't be loaded because it's missing or is broken". It says I should put the vista installation disc inside, then repair it, but it doesn't "notice" that I've put the cd inside. It doesnt seem like it's being detected.

i just bought vista x64, home premium sp1, and it's been nothign but hassle. i have been working with / repairing xp systems for 6 years now, there is not much that gets me on xp systems... vista however is different. i setup the system about 2 weeks ago, with new parts. the video card was backordered, so i used a 7600gt i had laying around instead. everything installed fine. i hadn't really used it, so yesterday when i recieved the other card, i thought i knew what to do. the new card is an ati hd2600, so i uninstalled the drivers for nvidia, changed out the cards, and it would freeze as soon as i could see the desktop everytime windows started. so i reformated. easy, as i had nothing on the system anyways. installed the ati card, worked fine. all the drivers back in, worked fine. now i am trying to install some programs, freezes everytime. one is nero 8, one is powerpoint viewer 2007. is there anything that works properly with x64? what benefits does x64 have? i haven't seen ANY yet.

Every time I update Vista Ultimate 64bit SP1 using the Windows update after a restart I get a blue screen. I have to go into safe mode (sometimes the updates are finished at this point when going to safe mode) and in safe mode reboot again and after that all is fine. The updates work, Vista runs fine. It happens every single time I do an update that requires a reboot at the end (Defender definitions update doesnt result in a blue screen).
I would like to fix this before I update to SP2. I have downloaded SP2 but not updated to it. I've only let the computer prepare for updating to SP2 but after this I choose not to proceed. Even after this I get the blue screen. All my drivers and Dell software should be up to date. I've attached the bluescreen message I get each time (don't know if it's exactly the same every time) and some error report Windows gave after restarting from the blue screen....

i cannot stop widows mail that came w/ this Vista 64, from opening everytime i want to email someone by a website link. Windows mail is not my default email - nor do i want it to be, i don'e even want the livemail to be my default mail application. there is more software that are installed that it shows up in the programs and appl folder where you can uninstall them. Xp was easy to get rid of unwanted junk. I really want to remove this windows mail- and stop it from opening and pushing my default msn email server to the side.

The CPU fan works fine I can see it spin and adjust the fan speed from a panel that comes with it but for some reason when I boot up my computer it tells me CPU fan error and press F1 to continue.I assume because the fan is still working this is not a problem but should I be worried.

Here's the deal. I've been working on this laptop for a client for 3 days now, and I swear I've read every forum out there, so I apologize in advance for any headaches I may cause here. As the title says, it's an Acer 6930 with Vista Home Premium. When I boot to normal mode, it gets to the 'Welcome' screen, and the little spinning circle just sits and spins. The client said they actually let it sit like that for 2 days and it still did nothing. Boot to safe mode - BSOD, generally with 'Page Fault in Non Paged Area', but sometimes others as well. (Sorry I did not jot any of them down).
Boot to BartPE thumb drive - 'remove media and press any key to restart' Boot into 'repair your computer' - Startup Repair cannot repair this computer automatically. "Windows cannot repair this computer automatically. If you have recently attached a device to this computer, such as a camera or portable music player, remove it and restart your computer. If you continue to see this message, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance. Hardware tests pass - memory and hard drive both come up clean.
Client doesn't have the Vista install disk, so I tried to D/L one last night, and apparently I got a bad image, because even in my other machine, the dvd is showing empty, so I am SOL on a Vista disk until I try to D/L another. I've checked out several forums as I said, and followed a lot of their instructions to no avail. I have also had the drive out and hooked to another machine, and ran Malwarebytes on it. The scan literally took 13 hours and found nothing wrong. I have also ran chkdsk and it fixed some bad sectors, but that's about it. SFC /scannow from the recovery area/cmd prompt says there is a repair pending and that a reboot is required, and you can reboot all day long and it will always tell you that. So, grab some aspirin after reading all that, get a coffee, smoke 'em if ya got 'em, and then let me know if you have any suggestions short of a 12 gauge at 20 yards.

Almost every time I turn on my laptop and log into my account a screen comes up saying something along the lines of Thank You For Validating Windows. This takes up the whole screen and I cannot exit unless I press OK. After my desktop is fully loaded a message comes up saying that Windows Aero has stopped working, you may be a victim of counterfeiting. There is then a link which takes me to Genuine Microsoft Software. I then run the validation test and pass. Also sometimes there is a message in white writing in the corner of my desktop which says:
Windows Vista (TM)
Build 6001
This copy of Windows is not genuine. My Vista Ultimate is 100% genuine.

My problem is when I boot up my computer all I get is this "NTLDR is missing Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart". I can still get into bios, but that's it. I've desided to order the recovery discs for my computer to do a full system recovery, hoping that will fix it. My question is though, will the discs fix this "NTLDR is missing" thing, or will I have to fix it some other way?

About a month ago, my laptop (with vista as OS) started acting up, giving me error messages such as ?windowssystem32ootwinload.exe missing or corrupt? as well as ?windowssystem32stsem missing?. I tried everything I could in vain, and I decided to go ahead and format my hard drive, through another computer using an enclosure kit since I couldn?t even get into safe mode or any other mode without getting the error screen right away. I seemed that the problem was getting worst as I restarted my computer.
As I mentioned above, I formatted my disc, thus lost all data, hoping to be able to install a clean version of VISTA. I reinstall my hard drive in the laptop, and just to make a quick test, I started the computer without the VISTA DVD in and I got the error ?NTLDR is missing Press CTRL+Alt+Del to restart?, and wondering what that was about, I looked it up on the internet, and most people seemed to say that error message was a typical windows XP type of error. But I never had XP on.......

I have tried installing Windows Vista SP1 roughly 8-10 times now, with no luck any time. It always gets to 98% complete on the first stage, then sits there for awhile before reverting, rebooting, and trying again. First time I got error code 0x800F0826, and Microsoft directs me here: Error message when you try to install Windows Vista Service Pack 1: "Installation was not successful" or "An internal error occurred while installing the service pack". None of the resolutions work. Then I got this message a few times 0x800705B4. Which I have read is a "Timed out" error. Its always at 98% on stage 1 of 3 that it hangs up before it fails and reverts................

ive been having problems with the tilde key on my Asus laptop. at first it was that it didint work at all, in games, in microsoft works, or notepad. i went searching online and disabled the driver for the eHome ir receiver (even though i dont own an ir receivers). after that i was able to use the tild key only outside of games. but heres the strange part, if i press the tild key quickly as if i were typing normaly, it dose not register. in order to use it i have to hold down the tilde key for about 1-2 seconds before it would spit out a stream of "````````````". then i could delete up to the first one. this is true for the laptops keyboard, and a wired dell keyboard i connected using usb.........

With xp you can press control/alt/delete to get a login screen up then login using the administrator account. On vista the administrator account is showing as a icon on the login screen. I dont want this to be visible, any ideas how to hide this?. I saw a registry hack but this removes the icon but it seems in doing so there is then no way to login without the icon.

I changed the Boot sequence to CD first, then HDD. Everything ran fine and vista seemingly loaded perfectly. After moving some files from my backup drive back onto my main one and installing some drivers, I was asked to restart my computer (for the drivers) so I did. Remembering that the boot sequence was still set on CD first, and since my driver CD was still in the drive, I decided to set the boot sequence back to the way I had it with XP: HDD and then CD. After doing this I quit BIOS and tried to boot, but I kept getting a message saying: DISK BOOT FAILURE. INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER.
So I restarted the computer again, this time with my Vista CD in the drive, and again, the computer wouldn't boot and told me to enter a boot disk. Not knowing what to do, I went back into BIOS and changed the boot sequence back to CD first, then HD. After doing this, and restarting with the Vista CD in the drive, my computer booted up with no problems whatsoever. I tried reinstalling Vista (twice), reformatting the target hard drive, changing the boot sequence around, pretty much everything I could think of......

I went to turn it on this morning, I just had a black screen showing the following words;
Press F2 to run
Press F11 to boot menu
Auto detecting PRI Master Atapai CDROM.
It then went to reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key. I went into the BIOS to change the boot order and inserted my Vista home premium 32bit. I then got windows is loading in files. After a short while I got the black start up screen with Microsoft Corporation but after a few seconds it just froze. Moments later it went to a blue screen with white writing part of which said the following; A PROBLEM HAS BEEN DETECTED AND WINDOWS HAS BEEN SHUT DOWN TO PREVENT DAMAGE TI YOUR COMPUTER.

Iv tryed everything. could my hard drive be damaged or something? Please someone help me. I cant work with much because i cant even get into windows! :-( All i can work with is the Setup menu
